So with Impulse over to Gamestop and the digital distribution competition no longer something we’re participating in we’ve developed a new digital updating client – Stardock Central (what’s old is new again).
But unlike the old “big” client, the new one is very…very simple.
(sorry for the lame screenshot, I’m caught up on my games on this new machine and haven’t installed any apps yet).
Your Stardock purchases will show up here once you login. Just pick what you want to install (or update) and press a button and it’ll use our massively fast CDN to install it (we have a long-term agreement with our CDN except now the only thing using its bandwidth is our stuff so the download speeds are kind of ridiculous – it’s like being the only guy on a 1 gigabyte line).
The new settings includes an option to have it simply update your software automatically. So you can either choose to stick with older versions or always have it up to date.
..
OK, let’s say you don’t like to have to install a client at all. That’s fine too. You can update your software and games via the web as well:
Pick whether it’s software or games and it’ll look at your account, when you last updated, and off you go. The installer will figure out what you need to install (i.e. if you have multiple machines with different versions) and off you go.
It’s designed to be as streamlined as possible.

Impulse was for both third party games, "and" Stardock apps and games.
No, neophil78. SDC is an update/delivery system specifically for Stardock - hence its name. Impulse is an online Shop front-end suited to ANY Company/product range. 2 quite different programs.
With benefit of hindsight, blending the desktop app functions of SDC into the game distribution platform (Impulse) was probably a mistake. Then again, with benefit of hindsight, I'd be rich.
Anyway, it's over and long past time to move on. No amount of public fuming over this will change it and if you have some irrational fear that 5 years from now you're going to get hosed by Stardock, I'd suggest you do some survival preparation and back up your apps. Then back them up again.
At is begining Impulse was not an online shop, and you're right, it became in time mainly turned to games ... to buy ...
I'm still eagerly awaiting the the new SDC. Awesome stuff.
neophil : It was clear from the very beginning (and Stardock made NO secret about that), that Impulse was not only thought for Stardock apps (which would have been way over the top). So You really can't blame them for that.
Carl....reasoning can only be done with the reasonable....
Well, You know I am sometimes quite 'unreasonable' too.
boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo i need this
^ Damn you!!! I see a new reply and always expect to see a link saying.."Download it here"! ...........
So how soon is 'soon' ?
Later than now, but sooner than later.
I can't believe I fell for that one...
I didn't.... hehe, because I scrolled far enough down and saw that you did.
So, pray tell, what's in the link?
@Starkers...now the song is stuck in my head....thnaks a lot Zubaz
So glad I opted not to enter.... I hate that song to pieces.
If all these post spoil it for Neilo I'm going to be sad.
Giving away the surprise sucks.
Feel free to edit your posts.
How's that???
Somewhere in the world, Zubaz is wallowing in his own crapulance...yup, you got me!!! I clicked link before scrolling..... (well played sir...well played.)
Sadly Stardock doesn't care about keeping existing customers-hence no new stardock central to replace Impulse. Stardock only cares about making new money-hence Start8 for Win 8 beta.stardock wrote my wife & me that the so-called new stardock central should be released by the end of jan-(got the e-mail from support in dec 2011. Now it's mid-march & still no updater. I guess they meant by the end of Jan of 2013.
Ouch, SDC is a piece of convenience software and as far as I can see FREE, its not even necessary to run/update all Objectdock proggies so why the grumbles on the waitin
Maybe its just me as a Gamer learning not to throw a hissy if something Im waiting on gets pushed back cause only thing it accomplishes is a raise in my BP,
It will be released when it is finished. 100% Guaranteed, maybe, or soon thereafter
