So with Impulse over to Gamestop and the digital distribution competition no longer something we’re participating in we’ve developed a new digital updating client – Stardock Central (what’s old is new again).
But unlike the old “big” client, the new one is very…very simple.
(sorry for the lame screenshot, I’m caught up on my games on this new machine and haven’t installed any apps yet).
Your Stardock purchases will show up here once you login. Just pick what you want to install (or update) and press a button and it’ll use our massively fast CDN to install it (we have a long-term agreement with our CDN except now the only thing using its bandwidth is our stuff so the download speeds are kind of ridiculous – it’s like being the only guy on a 1 gigabyte line).
The new settings includes an option to have it simply update your software automatically. So you can either choose to stick with older versions or always have it up to date.
..
OK, let’s say you don’t like to have to install a client at all. That’s fine too. You can update your software and games via the web as well:
Pick whether it’s software or games and it’ll look at your account, when you last updated, and off you go. The installer will figure out what you need to install (i.e. if you have multiple machines with different versions) and off you go.
It’s designed to be as streamlined as possible.

Yes an awesome reply (#295), I think that is worth some Karma cheers, and thanks GunslingerBara and those hardworking Stardock Personnel.

I know there is no firm time frame, but the new SDC will be out before SINS: Rebellion is won't it? I'd hate to have to use Impulse...
You will need steam to install SINS:rebelion
Stardock store wont work for it.
Excuse me? Have i missed something? I was looking forward to dumping Impulse and being Client free.....Not good.
Requiring Steam doesn't necessarily mean it can't be downloaded from the Stardock Store.
But i will need Steam in order to play it, much like if i had bought any title on Steam?
You'll need Steam for installation, patching, and multiplayer.
But once Rebellion is installed, Steam can be uninstalled? (but needed once more to patch?)Is there a thread around that someone can link me to? I don't want to hijack this thread.
Nice!!

I've already cancelled my pre-order.
I just hope Stardock Central doesn't require Steam...
Thanks Fuzzy...such a shame. I guess i won't be playing Rebellion. It's not that i hate Steam, i don't want to use any client.
What happened to the "no client required / drm-free" Stardock policy that made you so proud in the past?
And it is not that it cannot be done without requiring steam, it's a choice you made.
Are you planning on stomping on the Gamers Bill of Right once again?
Edit: sorry I saw the other thread. My though remain but I'll stick to that thread so this discussion (while now pointless giving the fact that SDC will become useless if I'll have to use Steam anyway) will remain clean.
I dont like steam needed to instal game neither. That made me cancel my pre order.
If i can be downloaded and installed from stardock store not needing steam for it I will definitely reconsider and pre order. Just waiting for confirmation somewhere from any dev that this will be possible....
As far as I understand you will need steam to be able to install the game and for any patches as well as for playing multi player.
It got purchased by GameStop.
And what will happend in a few years when the new SDC will be sold ?? all archieves collected (if the new version permit it) will be also unsuable ??? and customers won't have the opportunity to reinstall past versions (which they have payed) if they want to ???
(Just ironic but realistic ... and for Jafo the king of the locker thread https://forums.wincustomize.com/419256 , )
As SDC is only for Stardock apps / games, why would it ever be sold?
I'm just being a pain Zubaz.
Uh oh
There goes my halo! (I wasn't already! )
Was it not the case for Impulse ?
