What to do? I have just recieved this issue this morning and there apparently is no patch?
Note, that if you had stood by your principles and released Elemental WITHOUT DRM, the pirate versions would have been the same as the release versions, and pirate bug reports WOULD HAVE BENEFITED EVERYBODY. The only reason you have to waste effort filtering through them is because you made the decision to implement "anti-pirate measures" (DRM).
It seems this thread massively steered off topic here, but I too had this problem randomly a few nights ago.
Naturally, I have a legit copy, and re-installed it and everything was fine, but the only thing I could think of that caused this problem was the fact that I remember I enabled the Large GB Aware Address thing, so perhaps that had something to do with it?
If that's the case, did that thing you guys were planning to allow the Larger GB Aware Address enabled actually make it into 1.07? As I don't recall it on the notes.
Anyway, hope this helps in terms of determining what the problem was.
What a stupid view, continuing with the cause as much shit as possible in the forums huh? People who complained about drm before because it effected the games performance, this does not at all. Hell al it is doing is checking the version you have installed(which it would have to do to patch anyways) if it finds a modified exe it stops and you can't play...bad day to be a pirate.
Why waste my time typing this when I know your whole point for being here is to cause shit, which you basically admitted as much elsewhere.
Surly, you're starting to wear out your welcome here. Checksum checking is not DRM by any measure. And I've now seen enough of your posts to see that you're not really here to be part of a community or to receive technical support.
Sigh, I'll bow out, then. I really don't want to lose access to this forum.
thank you frogboy i have been trying to ignore surlybob for a long time now and i feel like most (but not all) of his posts are completely unproductive.
"Pirate bug report would benefit everybody"
..... wait what? Last time I check both legitimate owners and pirates are the same average human being. Anyone can bug report just the same. Surly, I think your negativity makes you a wonderfull person thinking that legitimate buyers are only fanbois and incapable of reporting bugs. Here, have a nice cold beer and chill out a bit, don't get a burnout.
...anyway.
Hello everybody, I am new here so nice to meet you.
Personally I am waiting for the game to be more stable before buying. A friend of mine did and is trying to convice me and another friend to buy it since we have been playing online games together for a long time.
This thread amuses me...somehow....but that's just me.
I have to admit that I tried a pirated copy of the game because, as far as I know, there is no demo out there...and before you say anything, my friends are not living in the same country as me at the moment, so I wouldn't be able to try it at their house. I am of course not going to distribute it or advertise where I've got it...I am also planning to remove it before buying the game and destroy the DVD in which I burned it...you are of course entitled to not believe me but my problem is that I always tell the truth...you know...I'm strange.
This is to say that for some people, the weird ones out there, using a pirated copy of a game helps in the decision making regarding the purchase or not of a game/software...face it. I know it is not ethically good for the developers BUT...and this is a big but...A LOT of copies are BOUGHT by the very ones who have used a pirated copy of the game. The same ones who wouldn't have bought it in the first place. I ḱnow because I have been playing video games for many many years....and I also have only original ones, apart from the rare ones that I keep for a while to try.
Remember also that a LOT, believe it or not, of the people who download pirated copies of games, wouldn't have bought the game in the first place...ever. Either they like it or not....BUT sometimes they show it to potential buyers i.e. it's a form of "advertisement". You wouldn't believe it how many games I did not buy because I could not try them...TONS!
The ones who should be punished are the ones who make money out of a pirated copy and who do not care a bit about the actual game.
Hey, I bought Demigod from Stardock on launch day, and that was the last game I'd ever buy from you guys.
That said, you are losing too many loyal fans lately, Stardock. Where are the days of GalCiv?
Edit: In an epic thread before it gets closed. KEK BUR
Epic thread? I would say tragic. Some posts are pretty interesting though, but a bit to much anger going on.
Danipenn, I agree with you, I do pretty much the same thing, download games to try them out, if I like them I buy them. That wasn't the case with elemental though, preordered it months ago to get into the beta.
That being said though, I would guess we are exceptions. I do not think *most* people who pirate actually goes and buys the game when it's already on their computer.
I can't believe I actually read every single post in this "discussion". To much spare time obviously.
Tomas
Too much spare time, that says a hell lot brother
