I'd like to thank Stardock for making, what I believe, are intelligent design decisions. The economy, city building, and tactical combat were all streamlined to keep the game moving forward. It appears none of these items will bog down during any phase of game play (i.e. early development, mid-game, or late game mop up). I think this has been a case of "we the gamers" not knowing what's best for us. We clamored for more detailed economy, total war style combat, and so on. It's easy to forget how much time those elements detract from the real game! A total war style battle can take half an hour or more. Thank you for listening to our input but remaining focused. It's been a pleasure. I can't wait to play.
I would prefer a Total War game style, with a decent HUD and with realistic units (not a Might and Magic clone).
I'm afraid that this is not what we will see.
I gave a look at the first battle images given by developers some months ago, and i compared with the tactical battle i'm playng now in the beta: it seems two diffrent games, i bought this game only because of the first screenshots i've seen months ago, i made a wrong.
I think i'll have another Might and Magic clone.
Have you ever played the Might and Magic series? I can't see many similarities to Elemental in these RPGs.
But I think you mean Heores of Might and Magic, which is not very similar either, unless you call every fantasy TBS game a HoMM clone...
I'm glad this isn't a total war style game. But I think surely tactical combat should be at least as interesting as it was in MoM.
Same here about the total war style game. My main reason for buying this game were the first battle images that showed total war kind of games with fantasy elements.
Still, apparently tactical battles will be changed a bit to be more fun, so we'll see.
I hope in a changement, but i think the battle interface will remain the same, i suppose that the reason is in the project of implement dungeoning in the quests usin the battle interface.
I was doing a similar thing in the best fNTsy tactical battle game here http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/showthread.php?t=2676
Stardock has to learn how to do tactical battles here!!!
This time I agree with you, Fantasy Wars and Elven Legacy are great games, and a true spiritual successor to Fantasy General. And I don't think that unmodded Elemental will be a spiritual successor to MoM, there are too many differences.
Fantasy Wars and Elven Legacy are trite garbage deserving of the recycle bin only. But to each their own. I can't comment on Elemental Since I never did preorder since I want a Boxed Copy and like to spend my dollars locally in my community when at all possible. Though I will be picking up my Copy on August 27th when I get off work. Sure I will be 3 days behind but I will have a book to read in the bathroom while its installing.
Thanks.
Well, the release version will really tell the story.
As some of you know, I was pretty "whiney" about Beta 4. You should see the list.
But we read the forums and play and play the game. I thikk people are going to freak out really at the release version.
Though, for all the things people worry about, the thing I was really worried about was the memory leak. That worried me a lot.
