There are some super deals on steam if you don't have all that many newer games. Really good stuff.

Our group picked up borderlands earlier, four pack. It is possible it might show up on a one day sale but we've been having a blast. Steam sure knows how to do a sale these days. Oh Trine, finally grabbed that. Loved the demo.
Even I recently bought a few games on Steam. Mass Effect during the EA sale for example, because Steam is less DRM than SecuRoM. Just pre-ordered Monkey Island 2 as well.
Steam does have some good specials sometimes. Looked just now. Nothing I want, though. The one game they have that I do want is also here and I'll just wait for Impulse to put it on sale.
The steam list is fun to look through. Otherwise forget a lot of those games ever existed. Forums are sometimes worth reading.
Another good place to look for good old games is Good Old Games, GOG, www.gog.com. This also has good forums for some of the old classic games.
At the moment feeling a bit of a twinge to play with the Median XL mod for Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction, total conversion mod by Brother Laz. Very active community, good folk. Point being that you don't necessarily have to buy something to end up with a lot of good entertainment.
Yeah, I paid 40€ for 7 games on day 1 of Perils of Summer and I am looking for more good (and cheap) games I dont already have in my Steam account.
Amazing deals. I Steam (sorry Impulse). They seem to have like a third of their catalogue severely reduced in price.
The THQ pack for $49.99 is a fantastic deal and includes Dawn of War I/II, Company of Heroes, Metro 2033, Red Faction 1/2/3, and a few more (The original DoW games alone cost more than $50 on both Impulse and Steam if bought separately, and Metro 2033 is $49.99 by itself on Steam).
The Call of Duty pack for $29.99 is also a great deal, and includes all the CoD games except for MW2.
Star Trek Online Deluxe Edition is only $20, if you're into that sort of thing ($41 on Impulse).
The daily deals are great too, and I managed to grab Gothic II/III combo for only $1.99 (they changed the price to $4.99 a few hours later, but still a great deal compared to the prices elsewhere).
Impulse often does beat Steam's prices, but due to their constantly aggressive sales (they have a few games at 50+% discount every week, and they're usually decent titles), I can't help but empty my wallet in their store.
I am way behind. These be all new too me.
Put up with steam is for cooking vegetables at that price.
Apparently the community patch fixes most of the bugs and fixes the annoying combat. I've been playing it. It's alright. I'd say its worth my $4.
For North Americans, Gothic II and III were only $2 together during today's daily deal. It'll actually last until 10AM PST tomorrow.
Edit: NM. I bought it when it was $2. Seems they raised it.
I am wondering what the devs of these games got from that prices ... What is good for Steam is not necessary good for the devs.
I'm fairly certain that's not how it works. Anyway, profits don't matter, amount of sales do.

Just got Civ IV, L4D2, and the DEFCON pack for 23 bucks total! Insane! Steam is so awesome. I doubled my current game library for literally pennies on the dollar.
For publisher at least. And for Steam too since Brad has stated numerous times that Steam take at least 30% of the sales. And remember than generally, it is publisher and not devs that get the money.
After rereading some Brad's posts, Steam take 30% + a cut.

Some great deals - managed to pick up Mass Effect 1 for next to nothing - was waiting for ages for them to have a sale (since that's one of the few games I'm forced to buy on steam thanks to the DRM)

All Company of Heroes games (best RTS ever) All Dawn of War games (thats like 4 expansions), and Dawn of WAr 2 games (which are new), and i think a few others.
And Gothic 2 and 3 is like $5.
So i guess going digital is good, since if you sold a physical game for $5 your basically covering the cost it takes to create, package, ship, and store. While selling a digital copy even for $3 can bring in a profit of some kind.
Most retailers take 35%. Steam (and Impulse, ec.) also has the option of letting developers skip publishers entirely.
