i have ben thinking alot about new strategys and this one seems feasible. since almost all players use massive amounts of trade, parking a few scout ships with weapons armed inside a system with lots of trade ships running through it. now destroying enemy trade ships wont do any permanent damage unless you can destroy large numbers of them and keep destroying them but you get money from each ship destroyed plus they lose income. if you can keep destroying theses ships, preferably having these small raider fleets operating in 3-4 systems at anygiven time, then you can effectivly cripple your oppenent. plus if you tie up resources by make him build either new ships or send his existing fleet, youve made him commit forces that could be used agaisnt your fleets or increase his upkeep. either of these are acceptable outcomes. i have yet to test this strat any who is willing please let me know.

There was a post about this, and I think the gist of it was that enemy trade systems are only vulnerable at neutral chokes or along phase routes that allowed for lying in wait with "raider" fleets. Because if you plant a raider fleet at an enemy held planet they will attack the structures if there are no other enemy ships in the grav well. Therefore you would have to micro your raiders to target individual trade ships and then to do this widespread might become a micro nightmare. At that point you might as well take out the trade port, no?
Only truly works with a few carriers loaded with fighters.
Definitely go with carrier/fighter combination if you're going to do this, and honestly I think it would be more damaging to go with carrier/bomber and take down the structures themselves if you can actually get away with this kind of harass in the first place.
It can be annoying, but you committing a few scouts to this cause will possibly be a bit much to ask for. And even then, I wonder of a few scouts can do enough damage to actually take out the ships in enough quantity that parking the scouts just for this is a good investment. I really doubt that it will be worth it, and it may be a tactic that you can use to steal a credit here and there, but that is it.
well scouts was an example. light frigates would be very good raiders as they can outrun almost anything and can destroy trade ships quick quickly
