Dawn of Victory is a modification currently in development for the RTS/4X game; Sins of a Solar Empire. It is a “total conversion” replacing the games original models, textures, UI elements, and gameplay to create an entirely new and original experience.
It is our goal with Dawn of Victory to “maintain depth, but shift focus”, taking the things that made Sins of a Solar Empire a truly enjoyable game, and apply them to a different set of rules.
Above all, the team behind Dawn of Victory is committed to only releasing a product we can be proud of. While we pride ourselves on the quality of our art assets and aesthetics changes, we hope the true value of our mod is the unique and engaging gameplay.
The storyline behind Dawn of Victory was originally little more than an excuse to create what we thought would be a unique and fantastic backdrop for the game. Loosely based on the “WorldWar” series of books by Harry Turtledove, we wanted to take the atmosphere that made World War II games so compelling, and transport it into a space opera setting.
Over time however, our backstory has grown into an expansive universe, spanning over 300 years of alternate history. Our community driven wiki, dedicated to the story behind the mod has grown to over 500 pages, with hundreds of individual contributors.
The Democratic Federation combines the best elements of the American, Andrean, British and French fleets. Large numbers of specialized ships are available, and when properly coordinated, become effective against nearly every threat.
Applicants should be familiar with normal and specular maps and have a commitment to detail. The art direction of the mod calls for mostly realistic texturing with some room for stylistic exaggerations; experience with generating "greeble" and weathering are a must. Texture resolutions range from 1024 square to 4096 square.
If interested, please send an email to [email protected]. Please include either some samples of your work or a link to your portfolio.
How dare you try to release a high quality finished product! I want lots and lots of buggy beta releases, not a working game!
we've got plenty of 'em in the staff forums but they manage to get hotfixes within 12 hours by temporal warping powers known to only elitist jerks. i think i should publically release the last alpha except with nothing but our corvettes with bright green base Sins models jettisoned at warp speed out of gravity wells (our last hilarious patched bug) and never coming back and call it Dawn of Victory Beta 420 IXI: Attack of the Clones but then people might actually think it was our first release and would only review it as standard until the royal guard came out to beat them
a dawn of victory staff meeting without at least 3 death threats is considered a dull affair
last week one of us carried it out too. we are looking for additional modelers
e: the modeler is NOT expected to create any more entirely grey planes. we have those covered
This is an emergency announcement. Everything is fine. The control of the Monarchy over Dawn of Victory is total. The peasant rebellion was an invention of the media.
viva tropico
I can't help you with models, but SFX perhaps... if you tell me what you need, I'll see what I can do.
THIS. IS. DAWN OF VICTORY!
......
I'm sorry. I couldn't help myself.
That sounds like a ton of fun. Really.
Apparently a lot of people don't have faith in your ability to finish the mod, but I am not one of those people.
i don't have much faith in cylon's ability to finish the mod because all he does is talk about jolly old england but the rest of us are gonna finish it this year
With good reason, I'm woefully unqualified to do anything, and yet here I am
Dawn of Victory, a thread for naughty children only.
I was referring to the entire Dawn of Victory team, not just Cylon, but whatever.
we will make fun of Cylon at even the slightest excuse, it is the way of things.
I have a question. I know that this is a multiplayer only mod, in fact I kinda prefer it that way. My problem is that I SUCK, not in real life of course (because I'm awesome) but rather I really am terrible at games (and yet I still keep coming back for more punishment). Is there going to be any way of making sure I don't suck every game.... What I am getting at is matchmaking in the mod....
Who exactly told you that you don't suck in real life?
Play with friends.
Ouch sinperium... that hurt. Yes I could play with friends but they also can destroy me. At least with random people I have a slightly less chance of meeting them in the real world and having to listen to there incessant, I beat you so bad at planet *insert Name*. I not really this cynical its just how I write.
It might be time to man up and just take the beating. You'll get better over time.
Greetings Comrades!
We’ve reached the point of development where we are in need of some voice actors to provide unit voices and other such audio things for Dawn of Victory. Rather than rely on my amazing talents to provide the voice for every unit, which we came seriously close to doing, we’re going to open it up to any of you out there. If you think you can provide some high quality unit voices, check out our list of requirements below.
So if you meet those requirements and still want to be a voice actor for Dawn of Victory, send an application to [email protected] with a sample of your voice acting.
We would ask that your sample showcase either a Russian or German accent, if you send us your Abraham Lincoln impression no matter how good it may be, it doesn’t give us an idea of how you would sound as a Slavny Light Cruiser.
That email again is
[email protected]
I would send you an e-mail but unfortunately accents are the worst aspect of my voice acting. I fit all of the other criteria easily and I am experienced otherwise, but I am sure that genuine accents would far exceed anything I could conjure trying to fake them.
Yeah, I know exactly how it is. I used to be able to do an okay Russian accent, but now, anything I try becomes Australian after about 10 seconds.
Will you be in need of actors for the third race? I could probably help you out there for sure I'd think.
Yeah when we get to the DF we'll do another search for voice actors, but thats a ways off, so for now its just Russian and Germans.
what about just using the language its self, give you a feel of realism...... Na scratch that, that's stupid
