You know; Sega, Rebellion, aliens, predators, marines.. You think is it going well ?
Isn't the next AVP game just Aliens Vs. Predator? Not AvP3. More of a re-launch, yes? No matter.
I don't know... I've never liked Aliens that much. That Aliens is scifi is pretty much only thing i like. AvP2 was fun game though, pretty immersive. And MP was fun, if the game didn't lag and the gametype was right. DM/TMD was boring.
The new AVP looks good but what new it will offer gameplaywise? It looks like it's gonna have pretty much same multiplayer as AvP2, Aliens can run everywhere, Preds are invisible but weak (balance, pffht), humans are the same shit as in every other FPS. (And will people play again those stupid AvP matches? AvH or HvP are good.)
Not going to buy right away, unless there's demo (with MP) and it's good. Halo Reach is coming next year (and beta first), don't think i bother with an another FPS. Going to play MW2 when not playing Reach likely.
I don't think AvP2 is going to be a hit on 360 (maybe on PC and PS3) as Reach will be probably too big competitor.
It's gonna be awesome! can't wait for the release.
Trailers, screenies and interviews seem promising
Yep, you're right; the official title seems to be just AvP. Although is best known as AvP3 around. No idea on balancing at this stage but if the guys at Rebellion work on it well the game is going to be kick ass.
They mentioned a new MP Survivor (or survival) mode. Playing as an Alien or Predator vs. 14 or 16 marines sounds cool to me. Graphics look very very well, and I see that they are taking care of a bunch of little touches and details to improve immersion.
Anyway, being my self an old Pred fan I do raise my hand to show those few bucks for a copy of it.
I think the game looks pretty good. They are really sticking to the abilities of each race and making them play differently. This could be a lot of fun if they do it right and the balancing is handled correctly.
The game looks great, and I thoroughly enjoyed AvP2. However, I think that AvP3 is a Steam exclusive, which is automatically a no-buy for me. A pity, really.
Anyhow, here's hoping that "Aliens: Colonial Marines" gets made and is not locked down with Steam DRM and other dubious "services."
No way. You can pre-order at Gamestop already I think. This game's going to be huge, multiplatform as well I think. They won't limit it to Steam.
I wish it were so, good man. On the PC, the game is integrated with Steam, like Dawn of War 2 and Empire: Total War. Doesn't matter where you preorder from, you'll get a "steam-powered" game.

Which also means this title will never be available on other Digital Distribution methods, simillar to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Shame really, because I was really looking forward to it until I read through this thread.
I think that Dx11 has a lot of polygons.
Ahh, I see now. I thought you ment it could only be bought through Steam.
looking forward to this and colonial marines. the first AvP is one of the scariest games of all time.
Steam powered no buy for me then
Sorry but I'm quite overdrive on RL as well as curious about your comments on that architecture.. So what's the problem with steam?; only in case you feel enough comfortable at talking about it.
By the way, seems to be that the game is not going to be sold in Germany due to its inherent violent nature. Probably because of the one-kill shots for preds and aliens. But hey, predators and aliens are not supposed to be nice people; isn't it?. Although comes to mind other non-that-scifi games which deserve some new thread to discuss on that matter... or something.
Meh.. personally give me a jungle, let me play as predator and I'm cool with "just" that!
To echo what silencer said, what's the issue with steam?
Thanks.
That's a fair enough question. First, let me say that I am happy for those people who like Steam. It indeed is a service that some believe contains benefits. However, I personally believe that the costs outweigh the benefits. Why, you might ask?
1. Steam is a purposeful attempt to kill the secondary (used) market in PC games. By requiring each purchaser to tie the game to an individual account, it makes it impossible to transfer the ownership of the game through sale or simply give it away to a friend or relative. I find this business practice--that is, killing the resale rights of a legitimate buyer--to be unethical and anti-consumer, especially for people who buy boxed retail versions of games.
2. I do not like having a third-party program running in the background as I play my games. Further, the advertisements that pop up when you log in regularly remind you that Steam is a business trying to sell you more products.
3. I am troubled by the possibility that Steam could go out of business some day, and game ("license") owners may lose access to any games tied to their Steam accounts. Steam has never denied this possibility, at least not in writing. And the Steam subscriber agreement (http://store.steampowered.com/subscriber_agreement/) is quite clear about your rights as a consumer: (2.A.) "You understand that neither this Agreement nor the terms associated with a particular Subscription entitles you to future updates, new versions or other enhancements of the Steam Software associated with a particular Subscription although Valve may choose to provide such updates, etc. in its sole discretion." In plain English, once you buy the game, Steam doesn't owe you a damn thing, not even an update of its own client software.
4. I have had a number of technical issues that have kept me from playing Dawn of War 2 (the only Steam game that I own or ever will) on various occasions. Whether having to update the client software, delete the clientregistry.blob file, reinstall the game, or simply bide my time until I can get pass the "Steam is unavailable. Try again later" messages that occasionally appear, I have had more trouble with Steam than I have ever had with a DRM system. In fact, Dawn of War 2 is the only game that I have that makes me nervous when I launch it, because there's always that possibility that the Steam servers are down, or being maintenanced, or being flooded due to some "free weekend" promotion.
5. Finally, I personally like the boxed retail version of games, so the whole digital download thing is not for me (though I understand why some people like it). However, I find it strange that Steam doesn't discount games at launch, since the publisher/developer and Steam do not have to pay the cost of packaging, shipping, shelf space, etc. There is no good reason--except for pure profit gouging--for a digital version of a game to cost as much as a boxed retail version at a store. However, the cost savings associate with digital distribution are not generally passed along to the customer, especially at launch time.
These are my main problems with Steam, and I suppose that there are others who have similar concerns. Please don't get me wrong: Steam is fine for people who don't mind dealing with any of the issues cited above. Personally, I would just rather not be bothered.
SNIP
And here's one more reason not to like Steam. Steam converses dollars to euros 1=1. Making games in euro-zone almost 50 per cent expensive. Plus it slaps 22% VAT (right? I'm i still up to date?) even if one's country does not have VAT.
When you "buy" a game from Steam, what really happens is you're renting it from the indefinately (read their user agreement). They have the right to take the game away from you at any time for any cause regardless of the circumstance. They can delete your games for hacking, for being accused of hacking, for posting stupid things on their forums, for whatever they feel like.
Steam has its niche. I've spent $100 or so on steam games, but I don't play them. I use steam to talk with my friends, because that's where Impulse is really lacking, and none of my friends use xfire. I dunno. To each their own. I have a few friends that don't have internet access and are frustrated out of the ass that they can't play Portal or CS:S against bots, and so they usually find a hacked copy on torrent sites (getting another friend to download it for them)
Impulse is on the right track, but its really not there yet. My two cents.
Offline mode may or may not be working now. (Back when I had dialup, two years ago, "offline mode" never worked.)
But how are you ever going to get steam to install/validate/update if it can never connect to the server to even log into your account? I'm just relaying info from my friend: at his house they have dialup for their upstairs computer, and none for their downstairs, which is their nicer rig. For my other friend, same kind of deal. If you have no internet whatsoever you can't play Steam games offline.
You said your friend downloaded the pirated games for them? With a little more effort he could easily use his internet connection to download those games into their computers and they can own them properly. Steam does have an offline mode - I have two machines, and my second one is usually not connected to the internet. I play Knights of the Old Republic, through Steam, on that machine - you need to download and activate/validate your programs (which is done automatically when you're downloading them through Steam rather than a Box install like Half-Life 2) and enable offline mode, which is defaulted to enabled if I recall correctly.
Dead excited.
Dead SCARED.
I'm mildly excited about it for several reasons:
I'm a MASSIVE Aliens fan.
There was talk of a co-op mode, even a co-op survival mode, and if that is delivered I might do a sex wee.
The graphics look fabulous, the realisation of the Aliens and Colonial Marines really captures the feel of Aliens the best movie in the series.
Mildly apprehensive because:
I watched a movie of the Predator play and he took a trophie at every kill and the animations become very repetative quickly.
It's by Rebellion. They were spot on with the first AvP 10 years ago and I also loved the Jaguar version but what have they done since?
If this kills the release of Aliens Colonial Marines I will be gutted.
From what I've seen in the promotional video footage there're several one-kill shots. No idea if there's only one animation combo for the Predator's Trophy though. Seems to be that the Pred gets vulnerable as he gets its Trophy so is going to be up to the player to "abuse" of it or not. Have you seen yet how his disk cuts alien meal as butter?
Absolutely terrific, nothing compares
Yup, I'm eagerly waiting for it.
I bought the First one when it got out, and the sheer fact that damn "/%/%& Motion Tracker got the SAME STRESSING MADDENING *STOCH*STOCH*STOCH*PEEP*PEEP* SOUND as the movies.
Yeah, they got me there.
Oddly enough, I never got passed the level on the ship as the Marine..Never got hooked on the Alien, and my Brother finished the predator campaing.
I know Multi-player was a blast too...anyone remember that lone bunker in the middle of a valley? It was always fun, until someone used a grenade indoors, blew the roof up and the aliens just jumped in and killed us all...(then you had to run all the way back from the starting point, dodging aliens and such, with the odd fact that someone will be in the bunker to open the doors when you arrived)
