We’re not trying to torture anyone with these sneak peeks.
For the past couple of weeks we’ve been playing with new builds of Demigod sent over from developer Gas Powered Games.
Now, since I work at Stardock, the publisher, I’m biased. I make no bones about it. But as the designer and one of the developers of Galactic Civilizations and the forthcoming Elemental, I do have some perspective on the work GPG is doing with these demigods.
As someone who is biased a bit towards quantity over quality, I have been somewhat skeptical about the effort involved in making these demigods. If I were the designer of Demigod, the players would simply create their demigods from scratch at the start of the game rather than “pick” one. That said, seeing GPG’s work has given me a real appreciation of the craftsmanship at Gas Powered Games.
The Demon Assassin will be an exciting addition. He plays very differently than any other demigod I’ve played and yet he also feels natural to the game play. He’s incredibly powerful but also very fragile.
I normally play as either Oak or Lord Erebus. In either case, I don’t tend to die often because I quickly amass a lot of HP. The Demon Assassin, by contrast, is (obviously) not a general which means no monks to start out with and he has much lower armor and HP than most of the demigods.
On the other hand, he’s lethal. By the second level, a fully mana’d DA can inflict 650HP of damage.
Here are the powers that I think people will find exciting:
He is incredibly dangerous – in the right hands. He’s also a massive feeder in the wrong hands. At level 4, with HP giving armor and such, I had 2275HP. With Erebus or Oak I’d be at over 4000 at that point.
What? Give him Blood of the Fallen? No problem? Except he’s fairly slow at the start. He is almost begging for Swift Ankle Bracelet.
Here’s a video of his skills.
Since im looking forward to the new general all this talk about DA makes me a bit jealous due to zero talk about occulus (sp?)
Few points:
Overall his abilities are awesome, verry interesting and sounds like fun to play.
Thanks for even more info!
I kinda would like to see his main way of moving to be a mixture of warps and teleports, so maybe a skill that actually makes teleportation items Uninterruptable
Yarlen says he's as far into development as Demon dude is. So we just need to really annoy Frogboy into getting around to him.
Poly, I believe that you are incorrect about dodge. I think that it is possible to dodge special ability attacks. I remember an erebus build that specialized in dodge for precisely this reason.
His non-shadow abilities can't be too powerful. I mean, he gets to throw people deep into your territory. He's invincible when in the shadow warp, so it's unavoidable damage. I think Essence of Magic might be a good favor item for him. All of his abilities have a short cast time, which means you could stack them in that time period.
In the 100s of Fireballs and Pounces and Penitences and Snipes and Bites and Spits I don't ever remember 1 not hitting.
Hm, I could swear I've seen dodge animation on special abilities. I'll have to test it out.
FIREBALL!!11!!1
...
<dodge>
awesome !
tbh this doesnt look good. Most of his abilities are kinda generic, doing just damage. I seriously hope that a thing like spine attack isn't a carbon copy of fireball, right now I dont see how you can distinguish between the too really much(range and some mana differences maybe).
same perhaps at higher levels spine could also apply a snare
You can dodge special abilities that do Damage over time, such as Spit.
But nothing that is burst.
It's sort of different. It's casting time is much lower than fireball's (making it a good kiting ability). It's cooldown time is longer (bad). If its damage scales linearly, it should do 1150 damage (from the two values I saw). It has the cast time and mana cost of spit with the damage of a fireball and the cooldown of Rain of Ice. To me, that sounds different enough so it won't be boring.
Dodge is capped at 30% btw... that means if you get 15% and 15% more from items you are maxed out.
I hope they change that...
The skills look very interesting and I think the DA will be a very powerful demigod in the right hands. Just think what you can do in combination with a tele scroll and a teammate with burst damage. I wonder if he can use his Warp Strike to teleport like Erebus or if he has to target an enemy for it to work. If he can teleport without 'target lock' you can probably do without any speed enhancing items.
And I wonder if he has any interrupts since he seems to lack stuns or slows.
dodge, it has been said, can affect skills, not just AA
horseradish mentioned it while doin a dodge LE build.
maybe he was wrong, i have'nt actually seen such, but don't b 100% sure
for the record, I think I like it better than building your demigod. If you built your demigod, the balancing nightmare would be a different ballpark, and it likely wouldn't be very fun to play because when you are a new player coming to the game you'd be overrun instantly by experienced players who know "what combos work". As it stands that still happens, but it is much easier to see what works when you're limited to the abilities given to a single demigod.
Wow.. abilities seems to be really nice as the animations does too.
Looking forward to play em...guess theres a lot of tweaking on his abilities when his mana feeding friend occulus is on
I think Demon has a lot of potential and so many viable builds that we will see him very often either as enemy or as an ally.
Great work GPG!
Cant wait to see him in action!
Perfect demigod, creates many more options for experienced players. Has potential both gank and escape. Can counter erebus swarm, depending on the range of his abilities. It is already counterable with spiking damage and ice tb but more options to do so. I personally really loved the abilities he has. Meanwhile, new consuambles would be great. I think those are the ones that needs great timing and usually determines high level matches. for example 500 gold teleport without animation could be nice and tricky. Or a 750 gold teleportation that you can use to teleport anywhere on map with 4 sec cast time. Probably not the right place to suggest these but just ideas came to mind. Looking forward to play with this DG.
I dont see this demigod having any strong builds for any kind of compeditive 2vs2 (or 3vs3, could be wrong about 3vs3), no stuns and TB or reg squishyness without range to kite.
With the long cooldowns generals easilly recover a lot of the damage done in that time (i do assume that DA is not able to win mele 1vs1 fight without starting with better health/mana %s). I really dont see him being able to hold a lane.
None of his abilitys help allies out (shadow may allow more ganks) apart from added burst damage, unless he starts of with TB (with Ice bonus) AA dps. with no stuns, no buffs/debuffs the only way DA is able to contribute to 2vs2 or higer fights is to get in and do mele damage wich he is too squishy for (you could possibly health stack with him like ub to make this not a problem).
I assume this is what the beta is for: adding an interupt or snare to Warp Strike, or making his stat boost an aura (they are rather underpowered compared to other demigods stat boosts) would start to make him scary and more useful than an over specialised ganker (though with no stuns currently, unless you are stupidly brave vs him you can always tele out).
Shadow Swap has an interrupt component.
