I like the idea Stardock, its a good proposal!
This forum needs a bit of work however, the submit post fields are massive and clipped by the site design!
This is the first thinking move by software publishers since the TRS-80.
I wholly applaud Stardock for this, and hope they can convince others to follow.
Stardock, unlike the abomination STEAM, actually provides a value added service to the customer, while
assisting developers in protecting their software rights. I have actually suggested to a couple of software companies to
consider using the Stardock Impulse system. I should also recommend that Stardock also consider representing
non-game publishers. This would be an excellent system for field personnel to be able to use to update customer
assets, such as anti-viral and anti-spy and other utility software.
One step further might be a way to facilitate the users taking non-impulse products and have them uploaded
into the users personal and private area. This way they may be able to more easilly recover from hard drive or system
failure. I have way too many clients that lose their original disks around the office. Perhaps a simple up-front
validation process, then the user can retrieve their software at a later date.
