First off heros of new earth is 10 times more stable then Demigod. Whats worse is that HON is free for now, whiule I payed money for demi god.
Second it feels like there are 100 times more players on HON. Again, I payed for Demigod and Hon is free. Yet i can't play DEmiGod become NO one else is playing it. And when i do try to play it the Lobby crashes. Just now my friends and i tried to get a game going and it crashed 3 times just in the lobby. WTF?
True,
Based on gameplay they are really different and I enjoy them both. Based on multiplayer features though..there is no comparison. I am not going to beat a dead horse and list all the features HoN has that Demigod doesen't but I just don't see this game going in the direction unless changes are made. I think the number of online users / open games speak for itself.
Hey Nielo,
1st off, I love your avatar. It's been by far my favorite on these forums. Is it one of your own design?
2nd, I understand you must be frustrated that all of these out of towners are coming into your local pizza shop and have all these complaints about how your shop lacks chairs, tables, paper plates, soda or even napkins when clearly your pizza tastes better. I think what you fail to see is, these out of towners love that same pizza, and would love to enjoy it in the same capacity but is it too much to ask for a drink to wash it down or some napkins to wipe their mouths, or even a chair to sit on?
I don't know how many "HoN" fanboys come on here to troll, I think its fair to say that some do, but I really don't think the OP is one of them. I know I'm not. I come back because I'm hoping to one day walk into the DG shop and be shocked that I can finally order a slice and have it given to me on a paper plate so that I may not burn my fingers. As of now, it looks like the owners moved on to the Chinese joint down the block and all the employees are over at Elemental Burger across the street leaving us no hope of ever getting some very common requests that most other shops know to include.
The game works great for you, that's awesome! Most of the folks you know who play also have similar experiences, sweet! Problem is, there are equal amounts of unsatisfied gamers who run into many problems and their friends seem to agree with them too. Who's really right about which group is the majority? I'd wager its probably impossible to really know unless you work at Stardock/GPG or know someone who does. When a fair amount of folks are complaining about the same issue, its safe to say that maybe there is some truth to it. Look around bud, it isn't just an occasional post. If there were more folks actually playing DG right now, wouldn't it be a safe bet that the number of "complainers" would increase too?
Again, I want to stress that I didn't read in the OP's post "Hahaha stupid Demigod, lol L2BStable !!!1!!!!one!11!" and I think its not only fair to compare the two games, but GPG should use it as an opportunity to learn what they did wrong and how make it right next time.
I THINK the only HoN people here are those who played DG, got an invite to the HoN beta, and decided they like HoN more. I played HoN and decided I like DG more. I have no problems with comparisons to HoN and don't see any reason why we shouldn't compare them.
Here's my 1 deep question for those of you that are playing HoN more. If Demigod didn't have the issues its had, would you prefer HoN? Just on the game itself (not the features, MP community side, etc). Me, I'd say I prefer Demigod.
That said, I wish Demigod had a better launch without all of the issues... our community would be so much bigger than what it is. Buying DLC could have been so much more realistic because DLC would be available because it would be worth the investment. Anyway, I hope for the best and look forward to the new DGs.
Compare away, but the comparison does little to make DG a better game... unless that's the point of the OP and I missed it...
At least HoN doesn't randomly disconnect people every game. And even if it did you could rejoin.
Why must a post help (read: praise?) the community?
Actually, I wish I had read the negative posts before buying the product. While I'm not crazy about modding anyways, the lack of mapmaker/community-made maps probably would have been a dealbreaker, in hindsight. I honestly didn't consider looking for that info; since my friends and I enjoyed the demo, we all bought it, never considering that a modern multiplayer game such as this wouldn't have AT LEAST map support.
Unfortunately, as fun as the game is, I have to say I'm in with the doom crowd after, what, a month only. Without easy availability of content updates, the game is going to die. And whilst some of you appear to have no problem with the crowd evaporating, leaving behind a core of vets who all know each other, it makes it that much harder to find a game.
I have personally experienced no performance issues, alone, online, or on the LAN with aforementioned friends. I enjoy the game for what it is, and I laud Stardock for giving me yet another fun game. But let's be honest here - a game like this screams for expanding content. Why do you think a game like HoN offers MORE?
Again with the helping. I'm not here to help the community, I'm here to play a game I enjoy and would rather not see die a slow death at the hands of lax development and poor initial planning.
Excuse me, but if a game dies due to 'community negativity', that's about the most pisspoor thing I can think of for a developer to do. You may as well hang a sign on the front door of their studio "Haha, suckers. Got your money."
I reward companies who are loyal and supportive by spending my money with them. They DO NOT reward *me* by fixing a broken game. (I am not saying DG is, in fact, totally broken.) I do not ask that anyone pay for their mistakes, but I do expect that they fix them. That is what I expect. Perhaps your expectations are different, but they should not be.
I enjoy SOaSE. So much so that myself and a friend purchased Entrenchment, as well. Being that we enjoyed that even further, we decided that we would continue to reward Stardock with our money by continuing to purchase their products. We even brought along a few friends this time. I highly doubt any of them will purchase any more games after Demigods, given what we now know about it. Do you really think that we can convince first-time customers that "This is not usual, try them again" is a good idea?
We may be fans. But we are also customers, and the guys collecting our money need to be reminded of that fact every now and again. I think SD does an outstanding job. I will continue to purchase their products. But despite that, I fail to see a bright future for this title in particular, and no amount of happy feelings, constructive criticisms, and "take-your-attitude-elsewhere" can change that.
While I sincerely hope that I am wrong on that last part, who among us can say otherwise? Certainly NOT you.
Ok here it is:
Demigod is not better than HoN and HoN is not better than demigod they are both equally as good and both have disadvantages. But when it comes to the disadvantages of each game the differance is made at the player base/number of games/wait time and crash bugs.
Things Demigod Does Good:
Graphics. Skill Tree. Unique Idea. Better Strats to be used in game (like flag locks and interupts/stuns easier to visually see these thigns and stop them). Good friendly community for the most part.
Demigod Does Bad:
Lack of support, by that i mean patches are few and far inbetween I understand gpg/sd is trying as hard as they can but c'mon do hot fixes if you have to jsut to fix stuff as its avialble (shouldint have taken 3 months to fix the sedna bug).
Lack of a community (few players) Hard to find games because of this too. By that I mean find an "even matched" game thats fun to play weither win or loose because it was such a close game. its mostly nub stomps or premade stomps. (and premades are awesome its what the game was built for, but with so few players......)
No clan interface. Bad matchmaking System resulting in AIs on your team 70-80% of the time.
HoN Good:
Stable connections (and its only beta) Good Hero Choices Easy to find games (no more sitin in lobby for 20-30min trying to get a "fair" match even if you are a premade or clan group) More in depth item equiping and building. More Heros. More Mods. More Support. Stable Connections and able to reconnect.
HoN Bad:
Often get a "little kid" in a match that thinks hes is l33t. Out of date graphics. Remake of an old game. Lots of little icons in the game lists.
Really, I like demi-god more but I do not see me playing this game much more if ever again (me and about 4-6 of my friends that played dg with me playing hon now) Due to the in-game crashes, lobby crashes, wait time in lobbys for decent games, small community and general lack of support and patches. I know sd/gpg is doing all they can to get the game updated but every time i read answered questions to new maps etc etc, you can the same old song and dance "they are expensive." i rather them say no. we will not provied maps in patches but will make an expansion pack or whatever. I hope they can turn this game around with 2.0 i really do for i enjoy it and i feel that i got my 50$ worth. But it is time to move on at least, for me until the most basic bugs are fixed. which would be crashing in lobbys, game and pathing issues. I dare you to try and get you and your minions on cataract to the flag in the middle in just 1 click. i dare you.
Car A is a lemon, but it has wheels, Car B is a sexy convertable, but it doesn't have wheels. How do you improve Car B over Car A? By adding wheels. Hey CarB manufacturer, how about adding some wheels to your car?
It helps to compare. Seems silly you'd think otherwise.
---edit---
To be fair, I'll answer your question:
I'd prefer Demigod too if HoN only had 8 selectable heroes, half the items and was missing all those other features you mentioned. I love the idea of fighting for flags, and its pretty cool to play the same hero somewhat differently depending on my skill tree choice. Citidel upgrades is another thing to strategize over. The only problem I have with Demigod (ignoring all the other issues and sticking to gameplay here) its much harder to perform a comeback. HoN is very much tugawar until you've destoried two lanes of barracks.
Going back to my fast food analogy, this is what it sounds like you're saying:
I know your cheeseburger has a bun... and chesse, but lets ignore that and focus only on the meat, doesn't it taste better?
Well sure, but a cheeseburger is supposed to have a bun and some cheese... they've also managed to toss in some ketchup, lettuce, tomatoes, fries and a soft drink and honestly... the meat isn't THAT much better.
The simple fact it was made clear there would be only 8 Demigods and no new map is failure enough for Demigod.
Dawn of War 2 has been patching new things in, even a map editor and new game modes for free.
The "it's too expensive" means only one thing : Demigod is a commercial failure they don't want to invest any more money in, as simple as that. And I agree with them.
The game is not bad, far from it, but it suffered from a lot of stupid things at release, notably too high of a price tag compared to its content and a lot of connectivity issues.
HoN at 30$ for a redone DOTA will be the same problem, too high of price tag compared to content and will fail quickly, just like Savage 2 did. At this point it will become free to play and you'll be paying just for some gimmick extra features made for the hardcore fans.
Obviously.
There are too many folks who feel they are owed more then they already have recieved with this title.
This discussion is going no where......
Hello my friend. My answer: No. I would prefer DG. The big problem with DG is not the issues itself, its the time they take to be fixed.... or not fixed... or overlooked.... or "on working"... or "problem? we dont know, it doesnt happen to us"...
Than, 3 months goes by and things gets not fixed... its just enfuriating. HoN, on NOOB lvl (where I'm at), doesnt have a single bug I could identify, and very little pro bugs (reading the foruns and all).
Having bugs is not a problem, every game has, but not solving them in a reasonable time is a BIG problem. Come on 4 months to fix Bishop+Sedna??? Pathfinding was never, EVER, improved, from day 1.
This is my issue with DG. HoN games takes to long for me, but at least, when they identify a problem it takes 24hs max for them to solve the issue, at least now, on beta, but even on beta the game has so much more features than DG thats not even funny to compare, but I will list some things that impressed me the most:
1. Stats in the game
2. Add-ons (lots) already available, usefull and functional
3. An all around lobby that rox
4. An in game lobby thats just amazing
5. No crashes, ever, unless its ur fault, and u can send a report WAY easier for them to fix anything
6. There is not a single item that is good on all, or even 50%, of the Heroes/DG available, and item diversity
7. 40 Heroes balanced, course, there r the better picks, but there arent a lot of useless heroes, the game is balanced for 5v5 sucefully
8. Its basicly one map that doesnt get boring, or imba.
9. Friend list that works as it should, u know where ur friend is, and u can join his game on a click of a button.
10. In game voice chat, in game lobby voice chat.
Not to metion other, but 10 is enough I guess.
With all that, I still want to come back to DG, but its hard, just bc things dont get fixed or improved in a reasonable amount of time.
Thats it
