This is the story of the last of the Babylon 5 mod-efforts. It's goal, to prevent another failure, by creating a place to solve our problems collaboratively. Its a port of call, home away from home, for modelers, texturers, programmers and sound engineers.

Release 0.53 Full Download for Rebellion 1.95+
NEW - Balvarin Carrier and Minor Factions fix!
Installation Guide:
Sometimes the in-game mod loader can be a bit funky so if you can't see the mods you've installed or something isn't working then enabling the mods via the 'EnabledMods.txt' file in your 'Mods-Rebellion v1.85' folder where you installed the mods to is the other alternative. It should look like this to work:

Sorry, no walkthrough, but I hope this helps:
FIRST: Download the corrected version of the resizer (I locked the ability to create/delete meshes, me stupid ) https://mega.nz/#!dRBW1BTI!KSx1IznwkmWbtlB_bm3F8AUAGqIdAjMwXmSnt1v4c4A
1. Upon start you have to select the folder to where the resized meshes are exported
2. Select the folder that will hold our original meshes (all need to be in the same folder)
3. Wait a few seconds or click on the logo
4. Press the "+"sign at the top to add a record
5. Name them and add the Race name (race is just for you, to easier find your meshes)
6. press the small "+" sign and add your main mesh from your (aforementioned) original meshes folder
7. set the size of the mesh in the displayed unit
8. optional add additional meshes (in case you use multi-mesh ships or such via particles)
repeat
export via the button with the rectangle & arrow up symbol
via the settings you can select the unit and scale of your meshes
Cheers
Tobias
Thank you that helped a lot. I was able to reduce the whitestar and bluestar down to their proper sizes.
Always glad to help. I actually developed it for my internal ModEditorDB, but I thought it might be handy for others.
Have a question, when you first start the game and you click the button to choose which race you want to play, Rebellion changed it so that it was a split screen for each race between rebel and loyal. How do you get rid of that so that the button goes back to the way you have it (pre Rebellion)?
Found this mod two days ago and spend whole day playing 3 match for EA, Minbari and Shadows. I like it!
But i really want Whitestar and Bluestar (and maybe Valen from The Lost Tales) to be playable for Minbari. Or all these ships (including Victory) should be available for new race aka ISA, who use some ships from other races.
And one more thing. AI is so weak, i don't know why. I saw manual in first post, but link is dead. Can someone upload it again?
Not sure, perhaps Darvroth can enlighten you. Might be in the player config and/or need some adjustment of the UI pictures and positions.
Hi, glad you like the mod. As for ships - we are currently a little understaffed in the modelling and texturing department. And in al other departments, so no, no ISA in the foreseeable future.
As for the second paragraph - not sure what you mean. The AI has always been rather foolish and unable to really cope with mods. That is one of the gripes about this engine.
IDK... Sometimes they build only 1 capital ship (for free), never build more and use only small ships for battles. Maybe need some specific settings for matches?
If you mean the split screen like in Vanilla Rebellion, our mod doesn't have that feature. I spent literally years mucking around the code trying to make fully fleshed out rebellion factions for EA and Minbari with different tech trees etc but the juice wasn't worth the squeeze. Not saying it can't be done but with a mod team of 2-3 people doing this part time there is no way. Especially not when so much other more basic work needs to still be done.
Another poster was asking about additional models. We are still what..77 ship models short just to fill out the 6 existing races and that doesn't count planet orbiting structures, star bases and various other visuals like weapon effects. Then there is all the 2D work still to be done on the tech trees.
The game allows a lot of flexibility but in so many places there isn't a graceful way to accomplish the desired end result.
The AI has the most problems with Shadow, Vorlon, Minbari and Centari in that order. The AI seems to be more or less ok with EA and Narn. There are lots of reasons for this but the most common is restrictions on colonization.
I know, you have much ships in your plans, but some of these ships is not canon and was never seen in the series or films. Balance is a good thing, but there is no balance in the series. Minbari can have less ships, but these ships will be stronger and can cost more, so other races too. And whitestar is one of the most interesting ships in the series and should be part of minbari fleet if your team have no resources for creating ISA. Whitestar can be part of Religious cast in tech tree and it would be not bad decision.
But no means no and it your rights.
Anyway, your work is very cool and very hard and i'll spend some time playing it. And i'll try to add ship that i want for my self
I agree the races are not balanced ship vs ship (on purpose); the Minbari will wipe the floor with the other younger races though late game EA will put up a fight.
There is also a tech progression from early to mid to late game. Early EA is weak, late game EA is in my opinion stronger than both the Narn and Centauri though each race has ship combinations that work well.
I know TobiWahn will accept models but he's very particular about how they are rendered and the hard points. There are several good threads on that topic and in the modder channel. You'd have to ask him about the details.
About the non-canon ship classes, the AI requires some ship types (roles) and we haven't yet figured out how to get around that. Both the Shadow and Vorlon have a (relatively) cheap capital ship for the early game because without that the AI just won't play. You'd be shocked at the behind the scenes compromises to satisfy AI behavior. I wouldn't even bother with an AI opponent on any setting easier than hard, also the "Fortifier" AI puts up the best fight over the course of the game, at least in our mod.
Thanks for the praise.
Actually with you and me it equates to 1 person working part time
I know many ships are not canon. When I started the mod I used the mongoose miniature handbook as reference because they did some of the basic balancing work for the tabletop. Also they had lots of mostly sanctioned ship designs.
So true, I'm a bitch. But truth be told there are very good creative people out there who can make models that "look" good. Problem is that the quality is often lacking. Also it is very hard to do a good optimized UV mesh and it is best done in an coordinated effort between texturer and modeler because they are intertwined. Most people just throw UV geometry stacking over each other somewhere on a generic texture map. Might look OK but you cannot bake lightning an texturing effects into the texture that way. And these effects really make models shine.
I'm certainly not the best texturer (far from it) but I'm the only one left and I can bake these effects into the textures to at least make them look acceptable.
There will be a small update in the coming weeks/1-2 month. Hope rather sooner than later. But just an additional model.
I've stopped coding long ago. Most of the hard work was done by Darvroth - thanks a lot for making it playable - and we both have little time at the moment for this project in our spare time.
Thanks for the kind words and glad you like what is there so far.
Actually, for those doubting what is and what isn't canon... over at SB we've got our own resident B5 Expert God -known as Lightning Count- who had pretty much gotten the breadeth down to a sizable chunk:
For the record B5 Canon consists of:Episodes & Movies• Babylon 5 Pilot The Gathering Original Version• Babylon 5 Pilot The Gathering TNT Version• All 110 episodes of Babylon 5• All 13 episodes of Crusade• Thirdspace TV Movie• In the Beginning TV Movie• The River of Souls TV Movie• A Call to Arms TV Movie• The Legend of the Rangers Pilot• The Lost TalesNovels• The Shadow Within by Jeanne Cavelos• To Dream in the City of Sorrows by Kathryn M. Drennan• The Psi Corps Trilogy by J. Gregory Keyes• The Legions of Fire Trilogy by Peter David• The Passing of the Techno-mages Trilogy by Jeanne Cavelos• Thirdspace Novelization by Peter David• In The Beginning Novelization by Peter David• A Call to Arms Novelization by Robert SheckleyShort Stories• "The Shadow of His Thoughts" by J. Michael Straczynski• "Genius Loci" by J. Michael Straczynski• "Space, Time, and the Incurable Romantic" by J. Michael Straczynski• "Hidden Agendas" by J. Michael Straczynski• "True Seeker" by Fiona Avery• "The Nautilus Coil" by J. Gregory KeyesComic Books• 11-issue DC Comics comic series• 3-issue In Valen's Name comic series• The Lost Tales comicAnd finally the lore and fluff of B5W. The two RPGs and any other novels are not considered canon.
Thanks for the write up. Not meant to be rude, but I don't particular care tbh. If I wanted to make a science out of it I would be into all you posted in seconds. Truth is, it is a hobby project for me that was put on a backburner because I cannot invest the time needed to make it priority number 1 for me. And since Darvroth and me are the only ones left here and do this in our spare time for nil I cannot even think about going totally in depth to care about whether somebody considers something canon or not. That would just be too much effort required. We want this mod to be B5 and fun to play, not scientifically correct.
If you ever get into modding (making models code, textures, UV, effects, animations, interface,...) you are welcome to help us out and help us make it more "official". But right now I'm glad if I even am able to get a new model into the mod. And XSI gives me a hard time with this right now.
See:

I'm just being a nice fan of the series... but my modding skills is crap.
I do understand you. And if it were my working job to do this and I would get paid for it I would try to do it as true to everything as possible, including trying to get into contact with MJS himself. But my modding skills are also limited and tbh. I would call them far from professional in that regard. So I think we will just do whatever we can afford to do and try to make it nice to play for as many people as are still interested.
Looking back I realise that this project has been going on for 9 years now. And only in the first 4-5 years have I been able to motivate enough modelers and texturers to get a few models done in a quality that seems sufficient. But there are so many games out there and sins is not that famous (and very limited concerning modding) I think most modders (and B5 fans) look at other games/engines.
But we are still here so not all hope is lost.
Yeah, I remember when Dawn of Victory was a big thing... until it died.
Stellaris seems to have the lion share of 4X gamers at the moment. SOA2 still seems to be going strong so Sins isn't dead but it's definitely fading as the engine ages.

Hey all, was hoping to play the mod in 1.91, but every time I download the rar and try to extract it (using 7zip) it has an error right away and wont unzip at all. Also wont let me view inside the archive using the same program. Is the file corrupted in some way so that it cant be unzipped?
Edit: Never mind, it was a problem with my version of 7zip being really old. Updated to the newest version and it unzipped just fine
Edit 2: Now when i tried to play the mod the menu icons don't show up. I noticed that the Sins version now says 1.92, did they do a stealth update requiring an update to the mod?
We've had issues with the tech tree menus sometimes overlapping...which menus are having issues and what exactly is displaying?
Since they updated the game to 1.92 any mods before the update can’t be played because the start up menu does not show up.
I will check in the coming days. Should be easy to fix I suppose
Once the update is out there, do you guys actually play multiplayer? This is a great mod, I have been following for years, and many years ago, i hoped it would get much more popular... But maybe we could be at least a small community honouring babylon 5 universe? So anyone interested in getting involved?
