Updating some skins...thought I would show off some of the changes.
ecoLogical is getting the full 7,Vista,Xp makeover.With some help from Dani on 7 and some inspiration from vStyler there will be 29 substyles!
Knot Vista is also getting the full 7,Vista XP makeover.Many changes,huge selection of styles and colors.New name will be Knot Aero so it will not overwrite the original (if you are one of the few that already have it )

well...some mini disaster delays...some files buggered...notepad was involved...got a lot of checking to do just to get back to almost finished.
Heres a shot of one of the textured subs on XP...something is wrong with the Start button overlay...on just this one sub...same thing happens on vStyler's system so its not just me.
We are both having button overlay issues but its hard to determine the difference between a WB problem and a skin problem.ALL my other subs work fine...yet this one is the same as all the others.
If anybody has any bright ideas let me know.
If its a WB bug I can ignore it til Neil fixes it...if its a skin thing,I must repair it...but I dont have a clue what could be causing it.
I have tried making sure all settings are the same as one that works...different settings...importing new graphics...deleting texture layers...nothing works.
Looks great I can't wait to see the finished product.

Hi friends ...after much fightin' and cussin' and minor disasters...I'm back to where I left off.
An excursion into notepad skinning finally paid off and start button fixed.
Plus some PS batch recoloring.(dont use SKS for recoloring unless you just 1 substyle...it cant handle them all.You will end up with some images recolored and some not)

I'm about to give up...the start button may be fixed but now the taskbar buttons have dropped down even tho they have no empty space above them...settings are identical to a sub that works.
AND...the taskbar at double height is drawing at 61 pixels...61 fucking pixels! HTF is that even fucking possible?!
Theses layers are jacking with my skin somehow...I didnt have ANY of these problems til I added some layers.
I look in notepad and SKS has written the lines of code weird.Like padded away from the edge and sections touching each other...no space between them.
WTF! I spend DAYS on these little bullshit problems that should never be. If I cant finish this shit properly without a goddam fight every other day...then I quit.
Deleting the layers dosnt even fix the problem...SKS leaves behind all the extra code.

I can't help you. It's too bad it wasn't a TV; then you could shoot it. I can see why you'd want to give up, but I hope you don't. Just keep hammering away at it. You're a clever guy; you can probably sort it out. In the meantime, take a look at a screenshot I made.

I appreciate the encouragement...as of yet I cant even bring myself to look at it right now...what its doing shouldnt even be possible.
I ran into the same problem on 7 but its all beta so I just designed around it for now...but XP isnt beta and the skin ran fine til layers became involved.
Layers are a great idea but they just dont work correctly.They dont blend right,at least not like layers blend in PS.Automask is nice but it also has issues...it leaves pixels from the layer on your antialiased strokes.(because they are not opaque and might have a smidge of color information in them)
I selected just the antialised parts of my images and desaturated them...this helps but isnt perfect.
There isnt any masking function (for elements you dont want the texture layer on)that I can see...other than content margins and automask, and thats not good enough.There are lots of workarounds but not if your skin is translucent.(and they just about ALL are)
It dosnt do any good to fix 1 problem or add new capabilities if it creates new problems.
Brain,I found that if I get stumpedI do something else for a whilethen all of a sudden when I am not even thinkingabout the problem the answer comes to me.You could give that a try.
I noticed that too. When I have tried a gradient overlay layer, I had to bring the opacity on the image itself down to 82 percent to make it match the surrounding graphics.
no the layers dont work correctly, try doing a vector sun ray......yah thats impossible, i had to manually repaint the layer for it to work, then scraped the whole skin in the end anyway.

I cant believe how badly that crap pissed me off.
Oh well...deleted a bunch of the screwups SKS created and back to work.It will still have a lot of styles but not so many as before.(all the .wbo styles were lost when Neil changed recoloring methods...I guess backwards compatibility isnt a priority...no matter how much work is tossed away) Sadly,unless you get lucky(and I didnt here),the automatic settings are bad and the old eyedropper method was much easier. Aint progress swell?
But...the background options are great...textures?...not enough control,I'll texture in photoshop thanks. Layers?...layers got me in this mess.Better control than textures but still problematic...blend modes dont work the way you expect and lining them up on a multipart image like the start menu is a chore.
Still see a lot of stuff badly skinned(or not skinned) in 7 but if you just give up and ignore it I guess you'll be fine.

Anyway...haven't forgotten about the Plasmatron docks...they're still in the works. Just can't bang these out like other docks though. Gee...I wonder why!
