After some testing with Ead. There really need to be some fixes.
1. Carriers you broke em. Test anyway you want..BROKEN.
2. Clusterbombs for TEC don't work.
3. Charged Missiles works but is buggy. Whats with the 2 different symbols?
4. Flak is like omg op....to S/C.
5. Repulsion needs to be fixed or replaced with an ability that flows with the advent.
6. The repair ability for the enforcers/skirmishers is really useless due to when it repairs and the fact it shuts your fleet down.
7. Illuminators, how many posts like "Illum the all game HC" do there have to be for you to look at this and fix it.
8. Do you I.C. care, are you still on the job, or on the next project to make an incredibly unbalanced game, and take our money.
Has anyone emailed Blair or Craig personaly? We/you might get a faster more personal responce.
Maybe you should pitch the council via email. Or create that mock balance mod and send it their way.
Ungrateful ********.
It was $10 bucks man. How can you be so tight? it added not just 3 new ships, but also mines, SBs and lots of new upgrades. It was marketed as a MICRO-expansion or didn't you notice?
IC is doing as best as they can, they are a small company and they're trying to fix this game. If you think that you can make a perfect and (relatively) complex game with a few other people, then make your own game company. See how easy it is to make an incredible game like Sins.
JuleTron - you shouldn't have to keep paying 10 bucks periodically to keep playing online. Like I said, of all the 'new stuff', only starbases are viable in multiplayer. Human players don't use mines, and the static defense structures are still largely unused because they're not cost effective vs human fleets.
Stop being a mindless fanboy.
Just to clarify. My op is not about the money. Though number 8 of my OP is quite frank. IMO alot of the balance tweaks should have already been taken care of. We have come full circle.
Have you tried mines? If your cunning with your placement they can be efficient fleet thinners. Granted you probably won't buy them till at least mid game after your initial expansion phase is over, but I think you're underestimating them. Also I remember a lot of posts from entrenchement 1.0 that the advents defenses were OP, so obviously some people used them.
As for a player council, if I was a game developer it's something I personally wouldn't want. I mean it's one thing to have a forum like this where developers can read about players fustrations, but having a semi ligitimate player body with some influence is balancing issues would probably just make IC's job harder. Also I don't think Craig and Blair want their inboxes flooded with 1.18/1.04 change log requests...
Ultimately I think the best chance online players have of having a balanced game is to unite around a balance mod like EadTaes, which could be changed and updated much faster than SoaSE to reflect players opinions.
I don't understand why people keep saying the devs are trying hard leave them alone etc. etc. Empires mod a completly free full conversion mod for HL2 has devs working on it all the time unpaid in their spare time just because they want to and we expect just as much if not more then the devs here. The devs here are paid, we have paid them our hard earned money therefore we deserve to have their best effort and nothing less i know they have lives too and i understand that and everyone will always have some problem with a game but they can do better then this. When i pay for something then it becomes the devs responsiblity not their obligation to keep the support up for the game.
The fact that we have to unite around a players mod is ridiculous. It's not hard to crunch numbers and balance this game. I've done it and I'm jo smo sitting at home who figures this shit out in about 30 min. I've crunched the numbers for Scouts, Light Frigs, LRFS, and HC's and ALL are unblanced.
There are other things out there to look at, but the plain answer is there is numerical proof that the game isn't balanced. It just isn't. Multipliers don't make sense at times. DPS of some ships/ship classes don't make sense. It's an odd shame.
We wonder why the game's unbalanced and why the patches don't fix it? It wasn't balanced to begin with and the simple statistics were ignored from the beginning.
Stardock, ICO, I love ya, but some love for your customers would be appreciated.
This game does get patched and patches are what make it viable in MP, not x-packs. I'm not a "mindless fan-boy", but I do appreciate the fact that the devs are actually trying to get this right.
Also, there is only going to be 2 maybe 3 more x-packs. Its not as if we are paying every month.
OK, they made a (big) mistake in the last patch. My life isn't destroyed because of this and I am not going to bitch and moan because the balance is screwed. I'll tell them where I think that they went wrong, but there is NO excuse for being rude about this.
I hope that next patch will fix all issues or at the very least not be so unbalanced.
I don't understand why everyone is bitching so much... It's really simple to change an entity file...If it's so unbalanced, then go in and balance it the way you want... end of problem.
I agree with Dresda, if you don't like it, then either fix it yourself or go find another game... stop whining like a bunch of grade school kids.
I think most of the guys here play online. The AI, while not terrible, is incredibably predictable and provides no challenge to more experienced players. The AI brings no challenge, so we play humans. We can all unite around 1 mod, but with Sins this is cumbersome. Everyone has to download the same file and install it the exact same way. Not impossible or by any means difficult, but still a pain.
Odd thing is we do like it. I do. I like the game. It's a masterpiece of strategy. THe problem is there are exploits that take it from great strategy with dozens of strategies to predictability and one or two strategies per race.
I have gone in and changed the entity files. It doesn't do me much good though, cause unless I can convince other humans online to download it, I can't play them.
And I am going to try to fix it. I don't want to go find another game. I want this game to work so that online and single player experienced are both fair. Right now, only the latter is.
Currently right now In the mod I have hitted a weird bug. Even thou we have identical check sums the game still says our version differ. I have been unable to resolve it as of yet if anyone has a clue please speak up.
I saw your post in the mods section, but honestly I don't know. All I can think of is to try to find another tester and see if it was an isolated problem.
Yeah I'm also gonna try adding the game files intheir whole see if this fixes the problem. It'S funny of all the moders I am the only one to encounter this problem when all I did to make this problem occure over the work game version i have is Make carriers and flaks free. And in the other version the aren't free and thta one works.
The problem is, I think, you'd have to have an incredable AI to play like a human... and honestly I don't want my copy of Sins suddenly turning into Skynet..
Then you don't understand how the game works - P2P, checksums etc... As stated - the changes HAVE to be universal for MP to work...
I'll tell you why everyone is frustrated. It used to be the Devs would let us know what they were up to, comment on issues people would bring up, and release patches addressing theses issues. It's been almost 2 months since the last patch came out and we haven't heard a peep from the Devs about what they're working on. The 1.03 patch did address some bugs, but ignored the biggest issues of the game to date, which I agree with Raging are Illums, repulse and enforcers. So it feels like we havent had a patch since.. when was 1.02/1.16...... March? And we've had no shred of evidence that the Devs are looking into this.
I can say I PMed Blair about the Patch Stat Changes Forum, and got a response.. but all he said was that he was monitoring it. Which means.. he checks it now and then? IC is using it to help balance the game? hes laughing at all the our silly suggestions? he gets pissed that we all don't appreciate the game for what it is? what? It means nothing other than he's aware of its existence. I think if IC just put out a little statement saying WHAT THEY ARE DOING, we may all cool our jets a little, and feel the frustration slip away knowing that they're looking into it, and that we can expect another patch.
Unfortunately, its been months since anyone has heard anything about the goings on at IC, and the communities frustrations are mounting. People are starting to walk away. Debates over fixes are becoming more heated. More and more MP players are converting to Advent just so they aren't annihilated, and are still getting crushed by people who can build more illums and reach repulse faster. The MP community growth is stunted and is waning, as noobs find that Advent is the only race that wins(TEC seems to be most popular amongst new ICO players, which doesnt stand a lick of chance against advent currently) and seasoned pros clinging to their Vasari roots lose more and more to less experienced players who've memorized Vasari crushing Advent build orders.
We need some news, a blog, a forum thread, a company e-mail leak, a blurb... SOMETHING to let the ever so loyal community know that the guys at IronClad are working diligently on the issues at hand, and not just developing the next micro-expansion that will suffer awful sales due to the previous's unaddressed bugs and balance problems.
And the problem with simply Modding the game lies in the lack of MP p2p filesharing on ICO, as Hack stated above. There's no easy way to distribute a Mod to the entire MP community, so its a monstrous task to get everyone on MP to get the same Mod installed to play a balanced game. The fixes need to be universally distributed via the games update engine, Impulse, which only the Devs can control.
No one would be whining and bitching and moaning if we didn't love this game so much. No one would have stuck around praying and hoping for the games issues to be fixed if they didnt think this game had an awesome potential. We're all incredibly loyal to this game, and we'd like it to be justified.
I couldn't have said it better.
OK, that I can definitly relate to... I'm backing off now.
Props to the Deceiver. Thats about it. Except for my lack of faith in them to fix it atm. It's been 3 months. No News................
