I've been tinkering around with some ideas recently, trying to figure out if they work.
I was actually expecting total failure here, and that is what I started with. My first ideas were to play a silly 'fireball' build for TB, just to see if it could go somewhere: This build is rank 4 fireball, rank 3 Fire Aura, and 3 points in Enhanced Attributes.
As expected, it wasn't very good. Why? As much as a fireball based kiting strategy was somewhat effective (fire aura 3 gives you +15% move speed, and since fireball is your only spell, you need almost no mana regen effects) you just didn't pull your weight in 3v3 combats. Unless your allies were primarily auto attacking (Where the +15% attack speed shines) you were contributing fairly minor damage.
However, obviously you have those 3 points in enhanced attributes which could easily go somewhere else... So here's what I do:
A 3/7 Ice/Fire split. I used Staff of Renewal for this strat.
This is a fireball kite build, that also has the full 'control' suite from ice if needed (Good for 2v2 or 3v3's). I call it "Torch Support" because while you are kiting, any allies nearby can close faster, and attack faster. You also do pretty well just standing in the back and firing between fireballs.
The choice for Fire Aura is going to be, I know, the most controversial part of this build. Afterall, TB in firemode can't shoot on the run. That is true, but he can FIREBALL on the run. Also, if he outspeeds the opponent you can 'move past' them to get in extra shots. If absolutely necessary you can shift to ice and go that route. That said, your friends and allies nearby ARE going to be able to chase... and chase well. The fire aura's bonus to speed is greater than the ice aura's penalty, and it also increases attack speed making it ideal for an ally to auto attack a runner.
Weaknesses: First and foremost is the complete lack of AoE. This is something that TB players will likely find appalling. It's what he DOES afterall, right? Well, I don't really disagree, so you may find getting a point in Fire Nova instead of Deep freeze to be more worth it, though it depends on the game (opponents getting early priests for instance).
Itemization is where I like this build. Since you are even more mana efficient than most TB builds, you can often get away with the most minor of mana regen effects, and since you rely on the trim sexy little fireball for damage (not rain of ice) you also tend to be able to go into 'overdrive' and start laying down freezes and nova's as fast as possible. Great in 3v3 combats where group stuns, and interrupts are almost always stronger than generic damage.
Thoughts for modification: Try the anklet for super mobility. This is one of the few play strategies where movement can be greater than HP (kiting). You could also use the Heaven's wrath to mitigate out the lack of AoE (And it's normal goodness).
ive lost 17 games this epoch, none to you
nice try though buddy

Though, truth be told, you dropped at about half into the game at a time when you and Antiock had an upper hand. It's still pretty irrelevant to the point - you don't know me
Anyway I don't find e-peen contests particularly interesting so lets drop it already...
Ice has an AoE stun, why in god's name would you not use it.
Unless you're playing Sedna/QoT/TB or something stupid where you have no DPS, stuns are an insanely powerful move, they can save you and your allies allowing them to run, and they can snare enemies alowing you to catch them and get kills. They also get you the occasional interrupt on careless opponents.
Deep freeze is an instant cast interrupt, it's one of those counters for fireball you were talking about not existing. Its also a snare, and does handy damage when put into the shatter combo.
The frost aura isn't terribly good compared to the ice one, but again it is a weak snare, so it may be useful. I would take fireball over the frost aura.
I'm not an authority on TB, I've only played as him a few times, but playing as a Sedna against TB I know I'm in for an easy ride when I play against people focusing on fire builds. Not going in circle of fire before level 10? Hardly. Monks and healing wind will keep you alive at level 3, as well as your allies, and god help any TB who gets caught in melee. Fireball and fire nova are predictable and counterable with heal and pots.
Compare this to ice builds, where you will be lucky to escape due to the slow stacking being brought upon you. Slow stacks >> speed boosts.
Maybe in 1v1 games fire is better, but ice builds are far more beneficial for their teammates than fire ones.
Good thing we have knowledgable people discussing.
While it's true that Deep Freeze is an interrupt, it's not a snare. It increases cooldowns as a secondary effect and removes (consumes) the snare if used.
The snare is Frost Nova, 0.9s cast. Just as intteruptable as Fireball or Circle of Fire and on a much longer cooldown. Interrupting it prevents stun, snare and reduces damage. So everything that's been said about interrupts goes here too.
1v1 (in a lane) no assasin stands a chance in the early game against Sedna with priests. You only remove said Sedna by ganking. Actually TB can kite pretty well in ice mode with +70 damage buff, so if anything, it's better than some other in a matchup like that. Why is it so hard to understand that Fire TB can be played quite well in ice mode in the early levels
It was a disconnect, Antiock almost beat you 2v1.
I usually go Hybrid myself. Using the Added speed from Fire Aura to help kite with Fireballs is interesting, but I do think there are better builds for the TB. I would be more inclined to try it out myself but with that Fire Mode Auto-attack "bug" I always find it's better to battle in Ice Mode. Especially with the damage buff. Which is why I prefer Permafrost. In my build I'm jsut in Fire mode long enough to do a quick Fireball/Fire Nova and it back to Ice mode.
Seems like Fire Aura at the moment is a skill best saved for "lazy" pure fire builds
"Lazy" pure firbuilds play with staff of renewal and fireball at 5s cooldown. You simply don't have time to change form late game if you don't want to gimp yourself.
Well you don't need to be pure fire to do that.
And this is where hybrid becomes better
I don't think many truly good players think that pure fire is the way to go, but I do think that fire aura is getting a slightly worse rap than it deserves, simply because people focus too much on the key moment of 'chasing someone who is almost dead'.
I play TB more than any other DG. I have to say out of the times I've played with Ice Aura, Fire Aura, and no aura as my ability selections, I have found Fire Aura to be a better Skill than Ice Aura, and to put points into other skills than auras to be better or equal to Fire Aura.
Aura's in particular shine when you are gearing yourself more towards 1 side than the other, but when splicing fire and ice it is often better to not take any aura at all and simply get an actual skill with the would be used point.
Every game is different, every player is different. It's up to the individual to find which way is best for them to play.
why do so many people fall victim to the illusion that firetb not being able to runattack would be a bug?
1) Why would you revive a thread to say that when the thread is not about that issue?
2) What proof do you have that it isn't a bug?
3) Because it's listed here as one: http://forums.demigodthegame.com/359551
1) revive? last post was about a week ago
2) none
3) that's interesting
Fire TB is not amazing at killing enemy demigods (though he can certainly hold his own), but is quite good at seiging towers and protecting citadels. Also, I highly, HIGHLY recommend blade of the serpent for his favor item- it lets you spam your spells indefinitly early game.
And yes, going fire TB against a sedna or QoT player is not the best idea.
