There are so many complainers asking for a panel to see your allies health/mana, and your enemies items. THIS SHOULD NOT BE IN THE GAME, THIS WILL MAKE IT EASY MODE.
Reason #1: This will eliminate the already small amount of communication between teammates in this game. I've played some games with my team on Vent, and very little needed to be said to dominate the other team, most of the time it was "I've low mana, or "watch out, X, this enemy is coming for you.", or "this enemy has low health". In games without vent, most of the things people type are similar to these. An example I use is if someone has a Sedna for a teammate, the Sedna player should have to take the couple of seconds to type out "i've low mana" to let them know they should not be expecting a Heal any time soon if they get damaged.
Reason #2: The game already has barely any micro-managing going on. If you're an assassin micro is practically non-existent. If you're a general, there are few times you need to: getting your minions to set off Reg's mines, getting your gunners to attack towers, and harassing someone with spirits. Beyond that there's almost nothing. If you look at pro RTS players, their mouse is constantly moving. They're monitoring everything they can: how close a certain building is to completion, how many units are still in a queue and things like that. People in this game should have to at least move their mouse over an ally to see their health, doesn't matter if they're in a cluster, you can just press CTRL to target only demigods.
Reason #3: This will make people lazier when they can just glance at the panel without bothering to type anything to let their teammates know they're at low mana, and eliminate the need of people looking at the item list to come up with their own strategies when they can just copy the items of someone who pwned them.
Reason #4: Compared to others, this game is very easy to master. Knowing is half the battle. Literally. If you have enough experience to know that the scaled helm is better than the plate visor, you're already at a considerable advantage over someone who might not, even if you have equal skill level, micro-skills, memory, reflex etc.. A panel will make it even easier, making it practically a joke.
Think of other games. I haven't played Warcraft 3 in a while, but as far as I remember, allied heroes were not shown in the side panel, if you had a Paladin with Holy Light or something, you had to mouse over allies to see their health/mana. If they died, you got a message but that was about it. Few games let you see your teammate's mana. In many FPS, you need to mouse over an ally to see their health too.
It's not like that in Dota where such info is available. So I'd from experience that you are wrong - that is not how people will play.
And before you go "well this isn't Dota" for all intensive purposes the mechanics of the game are basically the same and not appreciably different for both cases.
A. Fog of war in Demigod is mostly pointless. You can't really "hide" in it because the lanes always have creeps in them and there are buildings everywhere giving sight all over the place. You can't really escape into it and line of sight people because everyone has a pretty beefy sight radius AND if people target abilities before you go into the fog they go through anyways (snipe/fireball etc)
B. Don't knock it before you've tried it. Imagine playing Warcraft 3 without fog of war on. You'd start out thinking "This sucks!!!11" but after playing a little you might appreciate that it is not worse, simply different. You can't creep as assuredly as you could before, if the enemy can run over and disrupt you you'd be at a disadvantage. You can see what they're going for and get counters, but it's the same for you. If they're building an expansion you can rush to stop it, but they know you're coming. And so on. Your strategy might change, but the underlying game is basically the same (you'd be microing your units and heroes the same as you were before).
I am seriously convinced that if Demigod didn't already show you how much health enemies have numerically people would be arguing AGAINST showing it. This is another example. Pure Madness.
"If DoTA didn't already show you mana/items you wouldn't be argueing FOR it. This is another example. Pure Madness" etc.
Dude, you are certifiably nuts. Cuckoo. Off your rocker. Unhinged. Got a screw loose. Lost your marbles. Wacko.
Wow...I use the fog to hide all the time. Who throws mines BEFORE the flag they're capping has turned yellow? Nobody? Well that's good because if you do you certainly shouldn't. On cataract you can ambush people who are trying to backdoor your portals by running past where your corner tower would normally be to block their exit. If there are no creeps there then your opponent isn't going to see you coming and is going to be at a significant disadvantage when you get into combat (if they retreat, it needs to be past you).
So no, I like playing with the fog of war on because it allows strategies like that, and by taking it away you are adding absolutely nothing in its place.
What increasing the information flow does is it places more emphasis on micro and fast clicking. I don't want this...if was a micro-king I'd go play Starcraft or WiC or some other game that rewards that kind of play. Making the skill differential more based on mouse-oriented dexterity and less based on item purchase strategy is not something I am in favor of.
I can understand some NOT hardcore gamers dont agree with this... super intellegent person but he's right and therefor i got one slight thing on warcraft 3... no you DONT see ur allies HP ore mana on the side of ur screen ore anything unless you have maphack so... thats ALSO something for not Hardcore players only for cheap ass players
ahyah keep this game hardcore cause i didnt buy it to be too eassy and super lame playing with kids all day long being pwned and getting a chance to pwn... but then on a boring and lame way...
so keep up the hard games ban the eassy lame ideas ^^
Your coherent arguments and superior style of writing have convinced me!
so...many...ellipses...
As for Fog, see Woppin's post.
As for the health thing, see IllegalDustbin's post and my own earlier in this thread. Specifically, the one you quoted first.
The way BMan's mod works now is, it quickly and easily conveys important imformation you can already access anyway; but the way you have to acces that info now (type/chat and ask your ally over and over and OVER about) constantly interupts gameplay flow and is a major pita to do.
But the mod does not show enemy items/mana; those things are not known to the enemy in the current form of the game either. You find out much of your info about the enemy by engaging in battle. You get some of the most fun parts of the game by engaging in battles when your opponent does not know what items/abilities you have, how much mana you have, or what exactly you can do. I think showing enemy items/mana would take away much of the above fun/strategy/mystery of the game. and also greatly lower the number of battles people would engage in.
Oh, and, F1do, my best friend happens to be "Homosexual", so maybe you better find a less KKK way of putting things down. . .
