I have recently been trying out a Sedna build with her minions. The difference between this and the other times I've used it is that I'm having the minions secondary, instead of primary. The way I spec Sedna, there's exactly enough points to max either pounce or minions, and the way I play her, the minions work better.
Not that this is going to be a surprise to anyone who's into this game, but Sedna does very little damage. Pounce just isn't in the league of most attack skills, so I think people tend to pick it up because it interupts. However... Sedna just isn't a damage dealer, so she can't take advantage of an interupted 'port like most characters can.
Sedna has two skill lines that beef up the power of her minions... and when playing a yeti-free build, I eventually got them anyway. The 24hp/s aura is, of course, awesome, and since she spams heal so much, I'd get the cooldown/minion attack speed skill eventually as well.
I love Idol minions. Love them. Sedna buffs one of them passively, bonus! Then I noticed, unlike the other three generals, Sedna buffs her minions generically, which means that includes Idol minions. All six Idol minions get 24hp/s, and 15% attack speed.
Now, I'm not going to regail you with tales about how I smote all my enemies with this setup, because I've only played a few games with it. However, with my playstyle, I did pretty well, better I think than the pounce-included build. General overview: 1 Heal, 2 wind, 3 yeti, 4 heal, 5 wind, 6 silence/yeti*, 7 heal, 8 wind/*the thing you didn't take at level 6... ect, pretty obvious where this is going.
you cannot farm two lanes with your minions. you will not get xp from your minions work if you are not next to them.
If you mulch them, it works because it's a active skill u use to damage the creeps. I forgot to say and it's obvisibly only for Qot, sry.
edit: Looking at the topic, i really should had add this
1. Pounce is really, really good.
2. Yetis are awful.
Play enough games and you will come to these conclusions as well.
1. Pouce is good
2. Yetis are not awful.
3. Watching 4 Yetis demolish a UB while he tries to Foul Grasp you, priceless.
I like playing with Minion builds. Yetis are not the best of the bunch, but they can be powerful, especially as Sedna has a lot of minion buffs.
However, this build is really situational. I always play assasin first, get Heal (600Hp emergency), then either healing winds, Inner Grace and pounce (for interrupt). By then you should be able to see what your opponents are doing. If you then go minion build stick to minion skills, no more heal or pounce.
Reg and UB and the ones you are watching for. If they are going AoE builds, then minions are not a good idea. If they are going spit or snipe builds, then carry on.
If you are fighting TB, then don't even bother with a minion build, they are the ultimate counter.
If you are fighting a Tower Rook, then minion build rocks, the towers effectiveness is greatly reduced as there so many targets.
The great thing about minion build Sedna is that it is relatively mana light, this means you can go for a lot more armour and HP. You will be very hard to shift from a lane, just don't expect too many kills.
I... what? What UB is dying to a Sedna who ignored her passives, or heal, or Pounce, and gearslots to focus on 4 mediocre Yetis?
I'll just ooze them all to death while decreasing their attack speed at the same time.
A full minion build Senna doesn't worry too much about most AoEs because her minions will have over 2k hp and over 30 hp/sec regen, the only AoE that really hoses her is an AoE Stun.
Played two games with a teammate who used yetis. We pwned UB. Both UBs were decent, too. They are playable, as they are sort of mini-tanks that get healed quickly. Combine these with the other minions Sedna can get, and it's not a bad strategy. You have to focus your build around them in order to make them work correctly.
Hmm... I admit to being a skeptic until I see it in action, but I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt here. I did play against an excellent Queen of Thorns the other night who had excellent micro over her minions both as direct support, and adding pressure to towers and creeps where we weren't. Very battlefield aware, I was impressed.
I've just tried this strategy. It's really great with a few additional tweaks. Thanks for the pointer!
Bleh, damn, now people are learning how to flow with the game, and we'll all be cursed to having to actually play like we mean it .
Minion builds can be effective, I've seen it happen. You just have to be careful and watch your opponent.
Hey I will write it up a bit more
