repulsion/illuminator spam is returning in a worse way than ever. in 1.05 guardians and illuminators here horribly over powered. so illums where nerfed (not by much) the only viable counter to illum spam came when carriers where beefed up. but now with flaks being beefed up carriers are once again obsolete and illum spam is back.
why its so much worse now is the only real counter to illum spam coupled with repulse in 1.05 was the dreaded Subverter ability "distortion field" but in 1.1 they nerfed the subverters so badly they hardly carrier their weight anymore. they die far to easily, cant use DF often and the ability is far to short live in duration. while distortion field was crippled with nerf, repulsion is still as broken as ever and in essence un-counterable.
not to say there isnt any counters to the this tactic, any skilled player know thats not true. just to say this tactic is so cheap and easy, in the hands of skilled players it is extremely powerful. even the most skilled players will need a massive economical advantage to overcome this fleet and there is rarely time to build such an econamy because this fleet can so quickly be assembled and employed.
bottom line, NERF REPULSION!!!!!! illuminators could still use a hell of a nerfing as well, because they are more than enough to handle heavy cruisers which is just wrong. i refuse to play as any race but advent once again because the mothership colonize ability discounts provides advent with the fastest econamy, and their fleets are horrendously more powerful than any other races.

Agreeded. Subverters only work in large numbers and against unskilled players. Any player worth his salt can kill subverters so quickly they don't do anything. Gaurdians are much harder to kill, and their synergy with the Progen just makes them sick.
To be honest though, I think you hit the nail on the head in the first paragraph: the flaks have gotten to be too effective and carriers have become obsolete (unless you build bombers and dock them, ready to pound a SB).
Agree thats why im going advent handling illum spam is getting annoying just because without carriers the only thing to counter them are heavy cruisers and even more LRM spam then they have.
Yes their a problem when you need more HCs (Tier 5) the lums (Tier 3) to counter them.
I think more important is to change carriers\flaks balance: Its stupid 10 flaks can counter 10 carriers with fighters. Also, flak is the strongest frig in game and after reaching critical mass, like 40+ they r extremly hard to counter. Much harder then ilums. With flaks with less armor\shield or less dmg any tactiks could be countered. Flaks shouldnt be a main fleet ship, its anti AA suport frig.
Nah all that need to be done si remove or reduce to 25% the build penalty on carriers.

Who has all the win, loss and percentage data to possibly make adjustments of this sort? It takes a lot of observation to make necessary balance changes... Im not saying no one's observing, Im just curious how they decide what gets nerfed... Anyone want to fill me in on what the processs is for deciding this?

That process is not always clear. What they seem to rely msot heavyly is on inhouse testing. Witch sadly is often quite different from what goes on in actualy MP games.
Other then that they seem to listen to some of what the players say. However even that falls quite short at time. Like right now it's clear they need to remove the carrier build penalty but their si no word on it. Their current patch is 100% missing the MAIN PROBLEM. They say their si stilla debate goign on but their realy shouldn't it. The change to carriers in 1.02 was a very bad one and should be removed ASAP until you find a new way of fixing the tiny problem no penalty causes. The penalty it'S self is causaing a way fucking bigger problem.
First of all, repulsion shuld be never be able to apply to capital ships. EVER.

maybe disabling guardians shield mitigation while repulse is activated for X amaunt of time?
since guardians got like capitalship like shields, killing them one by one is waste of firepower with mitigation.
Yup or repulsion could also consume X amount of cheild point each time it'S used. It's using it sheild to puch back lots of ships witch could be weived as impacts. hence to me it should take damage on the seild to repulse the enemy.
just strip shields all together.
And cant be reactivated untill shields are above 50% or so.
The thing that ruins combat alltogether is repetitive and continuos repulsion spamm.
The most stupidest thing is that you cant do shit with your fleet that is repulsed, cause ships try to turn by going forward first, THIS causes your fleet to effectivly stuck on the edge of repulsion if you ordered them to move while they got repulsed. YAY...
Then perhaps a better nerf would be to allow the Capital ships to turn without moving forward, I see why this is prohibitive with ocean going capital ships, but I don't see any reason why the crew of a Capital Ship in space could not use asymmetric thrust to pivot the ship in space... That's just stupid. That's like saying hoshiko's should use up all their antimatter when using demobots and then not recharge it at all for a min.
That's not a bad idea. It shouldn't be anything large, but it makes sense that the shields would take a bit of a hit to repulse. It makes using repulse more of a tactical decision since you have to choose which is more important, and with a progren nearby it shouldn't be too big of a hit.
repulsion is stupidly OP ability that can fuck up your whole fleet formation for hours end if you got enought of them...

Hell no you wont. To fuck up a full fleet you need half the amount of hoshikos that he has ships sicne on average demo bots will disable 2 ships per hoshiko. However a hand full of gaudians will surfice.

Ya, poor vasari. They have phase missles on everything and outrange repulse with kanrak. Plus they get nano to kill the hell outta progens or any advent ship for that matter. Plus they get practically all the neutrals with scouts and they have their moveable SB that eats illums whole and repairs itself in the process. They really have it rough. =P
