This post is about a commonly used dota tactics called harassing. It´s gonna be pretty basic and not to much into details.
The idea of harassing is to lower your enemies hp more then yours over a period of time eventually forcing him to return to his crystal losing xp/gold.
A few examples of how to:
UB spit. This skill which everyone calls so OP is actually really really good at this. You go forward, take a hit or two, spit and back off. repeat.
Any ranged skills that does damage is a good harassing skill.
Bait-harassing: You go forwad hitting them if they hit back you stand for a while then back off and heal yourself. REQUIRES a heal or higher regen then your enemy.
Minions harassing: You send your minions forward to hit the enemy.
Normal ranged hits: Whenever he gets in range. Hit him.
There´s a lot more ways of doing this. Please add more
Rook has remote harrassing with Power of the Tower. he can leave a Light Tower near a flag or other strategic location and get automatic harrasment hits on the enemy even while he's off somewhere else completely. leaving one or two rook towers behind won't be nearly enough to kill someone or even keep them out of an area if they really want to be there. but it will weaken them substantially so that they won't feel comfortable staying around to fight off challengers for the spot.
A good Strat is to keep one team member back a little, out of sight, using one Demigod as bait and when the Enemy tries to take a lane you both jump in. Don't go for the kill, just force them to retreat and then pull back. Doing this several times early game can really throw them off balance late game as they're not confident enough to try and take down a Demigod, fearing your buddy is lying in wait.
Mmm. Perhaps I could add some antiharassment tactics? Slightly off-topic, I know, but new players who read about harassing and now understand it (Yay, knowledge!) should also know ways to mitigate it.
First and foremost, if you find a demigod is simply beyond your skill level/a powerful counter to yours, feel free to ask for a lane-switch. Nobody on the team is done a favor when a teammate cannot control his lane.
Keep an eye on your minimap! The 'gank' tactic Zeh mentioned above me can easily be avoided against most oppenents; if an enemy player is missing for more than 30 seconds, chances are he isn't just taking a trip to the fountain.[e digicons][/e] In DotA (not sure whether it's popular in Demigod), players who are gone for a bit are called "MIA" by the person in their lane. This allows smart players to know when danger is lurking.
Finally, it is usually most effective to start with skills that offer good harassment (Fireball, spit, rain of ice, etc) in the very early levels, as most AoE's will lack the punch and mana-efficiency to net kills. Keeping your opponent harassed not only slows her farming down to a minimum, but also decreases the liklihood that she will be willing to risk going toe-to-toe with you. And that means more creep kills and money!
Happy Gaming!
Good lads I´ll add some more of my own ideas.
Harass:
Regulus mines out of sight and bait a hero into it...evul!!! xD
MANA POTS! These guys are the most pro harassers ever.
Anti-harass:
Sedna passive heals.
Heal potions. These are the most EVIl anti-harassers ever.
Stay out of range. Yes you DO get experience and gold w/o engaging creeps. You won´t even notice any difference from going forward to kill them in the first part of the game.
My favourite is the rook towers so I gotta go into details about how I use them. At lvl1 towers I just save my mana and maybe use a tower now and then while waiting for lvl2/3 tower skill and better mana item. Once I got that I spawn up a good tower net. It can be a lane or a pentagon, its what I feel like. Then I stand at the front looking like an easy kill. ZOMG INCOMIIIIIING! I back off just before they get into range, I guarantee that MOST of the player base will chase you and commit to the kill. Then half way through your "maze" of towers they realize their mistake this is when u watch them go through it on their way home or chase and kill them!
If you were an über pro you´d boulder roll them when u estimate their retreat...but that would just be evil wouldnt it? xD
Also I saw someone mention the most interesting part about harassing. Mental harassment. A guy who gets jumped every time he attacks get a mental disadvantage bcz he believes he´s weaker and gets jumped whenever he goes in to attack. Commonly know as "mind games". If someone is chasing you to your tower, you turn around and hit back can force a coward player back who otherwise wouldve killed you. There is unlimited ways of abusing mentality in a game. On the other hand its just like poker sometimes a guy calls your bluff and you get screwed double up.
