Microsoft just released vista SP2 RC. I have installed it on my computer and have had no problems. The tech forums have all reported good things about it and say that little if anything will be added to the final release.
"The wise man learns from his mistakes. The still wiser learn from others mistakes."
I sure most of you know how to uninstall vista RC2 if you tried it and wanted to. In case anyone tried it and doesn't want to keep it this works just fine.
Go to control Panel - add remove programs,On the top left there is the option to view installed updates look for Service Pack for Microsoft Windows (KB948465) and uninstall. Reboot machine and you are done. It may take two reboots to get rid of the logo on the bottom right corner .
DaveBax, it's not often originators of a thread in the forums follow it and contuunie to comment and provide updated information. Well done sir. [e digicons][/e]
Oh...I see! How does it appear over that wall? I'm appalled they pulled that one!
Thanks Philly. It apeared that I upset some nice people by posting it in the first place. My intentions were good however. I never saw the logo on the bottom till around 2 reboots or I wouldn't have ever posted it.
There are always "tweaks" available to remove the watermark. MS has been putting those watermarks on their OS beta's and release candidate versions for quite some time now. [e digicons][/e]
Precisely, but more to the point, WHY does MS need to put a revised edition number on the desktop?
Could it be to remind those with memory issues that SP2 is there?
Well excuse me, Mr Who-Ever at MS that decided to put it there, but the dementia isn't that bad ... as yet. [e digicons][/e]
... and when it is (that bad), and I can remember how to turn on and log in, I won't care if it's Vista SP2 or Win 98. [e digicons]:-"[/e]

Yeah, tried that when I had been drinking heavily one night... landed in the water instead. [e digicons]:-"[/e] [e digicons][/e]
Ummm... There's *nothing* mandatory about this release. So don't worry, MS will not force their brand onto your desktop. Just don't install it.
Some people just like to have more vista bashing material, so MS is just providing them with more things to stupidly bash about.
Reply #38; Far from bashing Vista,I happen to like it.Adding things to my desktop I do not want is another matter entirely.[e digicons][/e]
Same here! I like Vista also... and I can understand MS putting the OS version on beta versions, but that should end once you have purchased a licensed copy of your preferred OS. Adding text to one's 'licensed' desktop after that is not on, via a service pack beta or any other means.... because one is now a paying customer, not a beta tester
Since I never succeeded at that, thank G-d my keester is it's present size! LOL. I tend to bounce...however I was truly frrightened this morning when I passed the mirror and thought someone was following me. [e digicons][/e]
*doc wonders if starkers (with his methane 'blessing') hitting the water causes "carbonation"?
yeh Like Poomba in The Lion king maybe.. [e digicons][/e] hot tub anyone?
Dunno about that... but the impact forced loose an enormous curried cabbage bark... and I suffered a slight hearing loss as a result.

Actually you agree to be a beta tester by installing beta software... So you become a paying beta tester... *Tough luck, live with it.
Actually, NO! I have not installed SP2 because I will NOT have text superimposed on the desktop of an OS I paid for.
Like I said before, the dementia's not that bad as yet that I need a visual reminder of which OS version I'm running... so it is unnecessary and an impostion on the part of Microsoft.
By all means, let them put desktop markers on beta OSes. In that case, I AM a beta tester and I haven't paid for it... but in the case of a licensed OS I HAVE paid for, I have the greater equity because the service pack is a much smaller part of the bigger picture, and thus, I should have the greater say as to what is displayed on MY already licensed and paid for desktop.
Liken it, then, to having bought a new car in the colour of your choice and taking it in for its first sevice. Would you tolerate them putting the maker's name and revised model number in prominent (pink) lettering all over your duco because it's the new company colour and they'd made a few modifications to the factory standard while it was in the service bay?
I don't think so! And I object to MS placing revised edition identification on my desktop for the very same reason... that's not what I signed up for when I purchased my copy of Vista and it is aesthetically abhorrent. So yes, I have the right to protest it.
Oh, and BTW, thanks for your responses... I haven't had a good rant/bitch session in a while, and your taunts/jibes allowed for the release of some pent up frustration... that may or may not have later required getting out the strait jacket.

Actually, I don't see what M$ gains by doing that...it seems superfluous and needlessly provocative as well as obnoxious to me.
I see no harm in having MS notate on the desktop that an install is a Beta ver. Hopefully it'll be a reminder to people using it that if you strike an issue it's not actually MS's fault with a flawed Pack release but just part of its/their on-going bug-hunting.
I think if anyone finds the tagging obnoxious they really should rethink their desire/s to run beta software of any kind.
Skinners [and skin proggy users] have always been a bit on the bleeding edge....and are used to the odd 'gash' or two....

As for the "tagging", I noticed somebody else was complaining so jumped on the bandwagon... boredom, you know. [e digicons][/e]
Actually, I'm running the Win 7 beta with version tagging on the desktop, and to be honest, I hardly notice it's there.
So! Would someone kindly remind me what the fuss was all about. [e digicons][/e] [e digicons]:-"[/e]
