Ideas? Virus? When I take the cable out I don't get the "network cable unplugged" alert.
I'm running XP Media
Are you working off a router?
Please give the details of your setup...but first try rebooting router and modem.
I'm running off a dsl and router. However, I can't even access my router via my PC when the connection starts to die.
Somebody correct me, but if you cannot even access your router I have a feeling the router might have kicked the bucket.
Download "Router Check" should fix the problem. It's only about an 11 - 12 minute download.
OH SNAP,
That was mean. I'm sorry.
Turn your router off, unplug it completely and leave it for 15 minutes. Then plug it all back in and see if it helps.
Sounds like a router issue to me... perhaps even a timed connection!
If it doesn't, pick up a hammer and start bashing it, yelling about how all components are made in Taiwan and that this is the proper way to fix problems, as expertly demonstrated here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIh78GiTqrE
Honestly, that one scene made the whole movie worth watching.
I thought it might be the router, but I can access it just fine from all the other computers including the wireless ones.
I tried changing which port my cable was plugged into but it still wont work for more then 10 mins at a time.
Hmmm .. ..narrows it down a bit.
Have you another nic card you can swap out?
I went and bought a new one last night, same problems.
New here, but try 'Malwarebytes'. Had some internet issues a while back and this was a handy little app. Didn't think my problem was a virus or malware as nothing was coming up, but I guess it was.
You're not seeing any error messages or anything before you crash?
Try booting up in safemode. See if that stops the connection for failing. If so I'd guess malware.
Tried malwarebytes and so far so good, thanks Blayde!
Now I hope you've learnt your lesson PORN = MALWARE
Hey, glad to hear it helped.
There's a whole new breed of malware out there now. I run Bit Defender, Nod and Kaspersky and none picked up any problems with my system. Malwarebytes found 44 issues (mostly same bug - different locations).
Not bad for a free version.
