Hi folks!
Yes, I'm still alive.
Haven't been on the site in ages. Logged on the other day to reminisce and see if I had some skin comments that I hadn't seen. Low and behold, The skins are listed with comments, But when I click on the skin, they don't show up.
Is it because I'm listed as a "past customer"? I can read the comments on everyone else's skins....just not mine
Weird.
Could be a browser issue. I'm using Brave.
Edit: I just rechecked. It's only on skins I upload after April 2021
A few months back the servers they used went down. (Sometime around dec of last year to around Feb of this year) Almost a total loss. They managed to recover most of the data but did say there may be some things missing and to let them know. I cant find the post atm but im sure one of them will reply here in detail. Quite a few of my uploads have comments but 0 comments below or if you go back a few pages on the comments it goes blank but you can still go to the next comment page but still blank there to.
I guess I won't hold my breath for an official response.
Oh, well. This reminds me of why I've been absent for a couple of years....
If your skin comments have gone then so be it. They will not be back.
There was a very real chance that ALL of Stardock's history could have been lost forever.
TMan posted a list of accounts that were lost completely and unrecoverable, and that was a couple of dozen of the 8 million registered users. I don't recall your name listed, hence your login Username records are still there.
Some users lost their login/registration history.
For over a month everything looked lost, every uploaded skin, every forum comment, everything that was Stardock's online presence for a quarter of a century.
Rather than complaining about missing comments perhaps you need to appreciate the skins are still there so you can see the comments aren't.
Like I said, I haven't been here in a while so I wasn't aware that there had been a server crash.
Creating a post asking about a site issue doesn't seem unreasonable to me and is hardly "complaining". I did complain that it took 5 whole days before I got an official responds. I would have been satisfied with a link to the forum post/explanation of why, but yet again I'm met with hostility which seems to be the norm here anymore.
Don't worry, I won't be bothering y'all any time soon. I've got better places to be with friendly, courteous people to interact with.
Carry on
So no compassion about the very real problems that struck all of Stardock quite seriously.
It's all about you, then.
I'm just a little disappointed in the attitude.
Here is Brad Wardell's statement concerning the Stardock server crash.
