I am using:- Windows 11 Core 24H2 (26100.ge_release.240331-1435)- WindowBlinds 11.06 (021 x64 - Windows 11 Edition) - 64 bit OS- Mozilla Firefox (142.0 64 bit)- Start11 (2.53)When using any skin in Windowblinds (even Stardock ones), for some reason "Save as..." dialog in Firefox is broken even when Firefox is excluded from skinning. The broken "Save as" dialog is missing Navigation Pane and the random button (as you can see down below) do nothing. In order to get things back to normal, simple reverting to default skin does not solve the issue, I have to restart to get rid of the broken dialog.
The "Save as" dialog works normal outside of Firefox, even in different browser like Microsoft Edge it works normal. "Upload file" dialog looks better but is still missing Navigation Pane.
(my OS is in non-english language so tell me if you need to translate something)SAVE AS dialog
SAVE AS dialog without skin
And even though I excluded Firefox in Windowblinds, I have always title bar enabled. Ideally I would like to skin Firefox's title bar but for now I am just showing you that the dialog is not displayed correctly and that exclusion does not work entirely.
Thank you for any help or suggestions.
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. I can not reproduce you issue on my system. Refer my short Gif below.
Would like to suggest try, uninstall Windowblinds, reboot immediately (important), download latest version available in your account product download page (WB11.07 (beta): https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products. Install it, reboot immediately again. Retest it and report back.
Thank you,Basj,Stardock Community Assistant.
Thank you for your reply.
I tried to dig more and figured out that Explorer Patcher (which I am also using) is responsible for it. I tried to uninstall it and then the "Save as" dialog was working as you shown. But Explorer Patcher is essential for me because it brings back W7 file explorer title bars that are essential for retro skins (meaning gets rid of W11 tabs). So unless compatibility between Windowblinds and Explorer Patcher will be resolved, Windowblinds is unusable for me at this moment.
Perhaps, you can try Windhawk instead, its an app that been mentioned by Windowblinds user few times. Not sure if it can do what you wanted to have.
Thank you,
Basj,Stardock Community Assistant
Yes, I am using Windhawk too for other things and you are right, there are actually mods that do exactly what I wanted. W7 Title bar without tabs and W7 command bar. Perfect!
Thank you!
Awesome, glad it work.
One issue still persists and it is context menu inside Save As dialog. Mozilla Firefox is still totally excluded from Windowblinds skinning and even though the Save As dialog is still a bit skinned, at least it works now without the ExplorerPatcher but as you can see the context menu does not. Outside of this dialog I have no issues with context menus. Does not matter which skin I apply. Any ideas how to solve this issue?
Thank you.
I believe I can reproduce this issue.
I have forwarded your problem/question to Stardock Support Team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patience. Thank you.
Unfortunately this is being caused by Firefox itself.
It is preventing a critical WindowBlinds dll from loading into the process that owns the file open dialog and in doing so is breaking Windows theming support for that which is why the menu shows incorrectly.
They would need to stop blocking wbload.dll in child processes. If they had issues with that then they should have contacted us so we could investigate a solution.
I see. I just reported this information to Firefox's support so let's see if we will get some explanation from them.
Hello again,
Just a head up. There is a newer version just released few hours ago. WB 11.07 (not beta) which include a fix for your Context menu issue within Firefox. Refer https://forums.stardock.com/538540. Appreciate if you could try this one out.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Stardock\WindowBlinds

Note: User need to manually edit the Registry and add registry option.
Thanks for the clarification, basj. I'll check it out tomorrow.
It is more of a workaround than a fix as renaming the dlls could upset something which whitelisted WBs dlls.
We are hoping Firefox devs can remove the block for v11 of the dlls and so avoid this issue entirely.
Just to confirm, the workaround did the trick.
I am not able to make the workaround work, the context menu is still broken for me. I updated Windowblinds (says it is version 11.06 but changelog showed 11.07 and the fix for this issue). Is there something more that I have to do apart from adding the BypassDllBlocking into registry?
Yes, I rebooted. Multiple times actually since editing the registry.
Thank you for any tips.
It should show 11.07, so something must have gone wrong when updating. Apply the default Windows theme and uninstall Windowblinds. Reboot. Go here C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\ and delete the Windowblinds folder. Download Windowblinds from your account page https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products and install Windowblinds. This is what the about screen should now look like:
So, after doing what was suggested above, now About page shows me exactly as shown but in 11.07 when applying any skin, it sends me to Windows login page and I cannot get to desktop. So I had to do a lot of gymnastics to even get into safemode and uninstall Windowblinds through 3d party SW because uninstallation via Steam is not enough (yes, I have purchased WB via Steam). I tried three times already to install it back and I always end up stuck in Windows login page. Is there a way to revert back to 11.06 or I really have to wait for another update and hope this will get fixed?
Previous version 11.06 worked without issues (except the firefox context menu one of course).
Steam has beta option, should I try it or it is not safe?
Thank you for any help.
What has happened is some files are not being installed on your computer by the sounds of it.
For future reference hold down ctrl at the login and it will disable WB on that login.
Remove that registry key for now as the files it is using don't seem to be being installed for you.
By the way, holding ctrl when trying to log into Windows (in order to go around WB) did nothing in this instance (had to go into safemode again), but since this situation with the bypass is so problematic for me I am sure if I would try the ctrl method during normal logging, it would work.
The workaround also work in my system. Perhaps, you need to do the purge and reinstall steps as mentioned here: https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1349058584/WindowBlinds+purging+and+re-installing. Please use the Steam version steps on reinstalling. Try that and report back.
Hi LaraHCroft91,
With a fresh install of the latest WindowBlinds version, please make sure to reboot once it is completed. Once you've done this, check for this specific file:
After checking for that specific file (make sure it's that file exactly), then try testing FireFox again. Please let us know what you find and if the issue remains.

I rebooted my system after every step during the purge and after clean install too, made no changes in settings to be absolutely sure it works in its default state as the tutorial for purge mentions. Right before I read your message I tried adding the bypass again but it got me stuck on logging screen again so I went here to told my results when I saw your message about the Wbloadb.dll in system32. So I checked that file and it is missing from my system32. The only two places where I have this file is shown down below ↓
Should I copy the file into system32 manually? Should that resolve my issue? If so are those files the same or does it matter which one I choose?
1. Open Registry Editor and navigate to this location:
2. Edit String Value named:
3. Change the Value data from today's date to yesterday's date, then click OK.
4. Close the Registry Editor and launch the WindowBlinds application again. It should prompt you to install the update. Do this.
Please let us know if this helps.

Even when I have the last update already?
Unless there has been another one after 07...
Yes. I've verified that doing so should allow the necessary wbloadb.dll file to write to C:\WINDOWS\System32
We'd appreciate knowing if it does the same for you and if this resolves the issue with Firefox.
So I did change the date, update was prompted so I updated and then the Wbloadb.dll was correctly in system32. But now it is not present in "C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Windowblinds\System64".I added the bypass back, applied a theme and rebooted and it went finally well. I also checked the context menu in firefox's dialog and it is fixed. But.. When I go into "About" in WB, it gives me an error message and tells me that it is not updated correctly.
I did the suggested reboot and it still says the same. So what type of reinstall should I do now? The purge again?
