Microsoft is shutting down Skype, the internet-based phone and video service that was once the dominant way of staying connected in the mid 2000s. Check out the External Link above...
But others and I have been checking out similar products and the best one found is Signal, go ahead and check it out: Signal >> Download Signal
It is quite similar to Skype and you can send files up to 100MB.
Enjoy!
The writing was on the wall once MS put Teams on the market. They bought Skype in 2011 for $8.5 billion...but later they stopped developing it...beyond me, honestly as Teams isn't very convenient to use.
Oh well, who understands MS?
Did they reverse engineer Skype, and then developed the Teams mistakenware? OR was Teams a tweaked version of Skype with a different UI?
Teams was developed as part of Microsoft 365, and Skype was left to wither. The Wikipedia has the whole story.
This...kind of makes me sad.
All the communication proggies we have used over the decades ... all gone [or going].
Next step is I'll get a message "Teams will soon not be able to be used on Windows 7 machines. Please purchase a new computer to run Windows 11".
Fuck that.... I have them beat [almost]. I run Windows 10 Pro 64 in a VM on my Windows 7 Ult 64 machine...
Up their nose with a rubber hose, I say ...
An "up" and coming GI man.
I know this is old, but I am writing from my Joeuser account because I can not get into the forum. My guess still working on it. So this is just a test.
It worked Barb, hope you can get your Forum problem fixed.
Try deleting your browser cache. It worked for me with the Joe User issue.
I would have done that, but I kept getting the 403 message, when I tried getting in the forum. And now I did that!
Me again. Had to go to JoeUser first. And it is not a 403 error but 404. I opened each post on the front page. The May screenshots still has the error 404. Just odd. But I know they are still working on it. And I'm not touching the cookies again!
Barb, which browser are you using?
Try downloading a different browser and signing on with it.
Chrome. I will try that tomorrow. Good idea Seth!! Thank you!
You've been posting from the wc forums...shows in the header.
Yesterday all the sites were down for work...so that could have been part of your problem ...
Thank you Paul!
From my experience, it looks like the standard for video calls is Zoom. Everyone is using Zoom to establish contact, or chat or for connect for webinars, etc. Second is Google Meet. I don't know anyone who uses Teams. I tried to log in with my previous user id and password that I was using before the crash. Couldn't log in still.
Stardock's crew does, as do the Mods here.
It works well enough... Windows 7 has issues with it recently, but a lot of online processes are switching away from supporting 7.
