Screenshots and videos are very helpful. Videos can be uploaded to a cloud drive service (GoogleDrive, DropBox, OneDrive, YouTube), with a shared link included in your post. Images can be copied and pasted directly into a post.
If there are specific apps that the app does not work (well) with, please note what apps and their exact versions. If any app is not common, a link to a trial version would be appreciated.
Thank you for your interest and any time you put into making Start11 v2 a better product.
It doesn't seem unique to my system considering it seems extremely similar to what Aragain Falls described—well-spec'd machine with Win11 24H2 build 26100.2894, running Start11 just for the start menu, experiencing what appears to be (having ruled out my other hypotheses for my system) some sort of memory leak when left on the lock screen while running Start11 v2.5x, but not earlier versions.
It has been about a month since I last asked about this. I have tried to identify and rule out every other potential cause. If I remember to kill Start11 before leaving my computer unattended for any substantial period of time, I don't have issues when I return. If I forget to kill Start11, I have to slog through the lag until I can get Task Manager open and restart Explorer.
The computer is now on Win11 24H2 build 26100.3194, and I am still just running Start11 for the Win10-style menu. I don't think I mentioned, but the external displays are two Dell U2422H monitors. I don't know whether it has something to do with how Start11 handles the mix of low- and high-density displays, or how it handles the two displays coming back from sleep, or some other conflict. I don't know whether you have been in any further communication with Aragain Falls about xer investigation with xer monitors.
If it helps to have a comprehensive list of the other software on my machine, on a typical workday, that software is generally some combination of:
Nothing especially unusual; by IT standards, Start11 is probably the most niche app I run on this machine. And I have tried leaving the machine with just about everything but Start11 closed/disabled and still had the issue.
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help solve this issue, or if there is a way I can install a version of Start11 prior to v2.5. It is completely unsustainable to have my computer become unusable every time I forget to kill Start11 before I step away for lunch. Thank you!
I've had no further follow-up. Cause I'm lazy. I still need to uninstall Start11 and find out if this memory leak happens with the stock Windows 11 start menu. I just hadn't done that yet because it means exiting out of all apps and rebooting. It is still on my todo list for when I get a round tuit.
In my case I found it was the monitors autodetect input mode that was triggering the memory leak in explorer. I configured my monitors to disable the autodetect active input and set the monitors to always use HDMI. And that fixed it. My guess is that this is caused by a Microsoft bug and Microsoft problem and is not a Stardock bug.
Would it be possible to set the default icon size used when pinning an application to the Start Menu? I always use the Win10 style with nearly all icons being "small", but when I pin something new it always chooses medium and I end up with all the current icons getting shuffled around.
Sorry if this is already an option, but the only one I could find was under Start Menu, Configure Menu, Advanced which says is for shortcuts but has no effect when I pin applications.
Great work on the vertical task bar and seriously appreciate getting that back!
Currently the windows widgets don't show or are malformed and not interactive.
The only thing that we used to be able to do, but cannot (yet) is drag the primary taskbar to a secondary monitor, which I used to do so I could still view the icons when I was working in a fullscreen application.
I also have a suggestion/request, if it hasn't already been made:
There is a lot of wasted space here, would it be possible to put some of them side-by-side?

Again, thanks for your excellent work!
Hi, I have been having problems using True Launch Bar with Start11 v2.5+. I reverted back 2.11 for a while as that did not cause the issue with TLB. I have just tried disabling the enhanced task bar, and then reinstalling first v2.5.1 and then v2.5.2.Both versions work ok with TLB so long as the enhanced taskbar is disabled. As soon as it is enabled the TLB disappears from the edge of the screen and am unable to show it again. Disabling the enhanced taskbar and restarting explorer brings back TLB, though it is resized to its smallest size, which i then have to set back to the desired size.In summary, something has changed in Start11 between v2.11 and v2.5.1 that makes the TLB incompatible with the enhanced toolbar setting. Basically the TLB window disappears from the screen and is no longer accessible while the enhanced taskbar is activated.
I also notice that when changing enhanced toolbar settings, the TLB flashes briefly, it looks as if its getting covered by a mask.
I hope this information is somehow useful.
BUG: Right Click On Start > Open File Explorer
Using Start11's Right Click Menu Does Not Honor Windows Explorer Settings: "Open File Explorer To" "This PC".
Version 24H2 (0S Build 26100.3194), Start 11 v2.52. & v2.51
Hi, I just found a bug with Start11 that took me restoring multiple backups to find the cause. I tested this on another computer as well. When right clicking on the start menu with "Show Win-X menu when right clicking on the start button rather than the Start11 one" set to OFF, and selecting "Open File Explorer":
File Explorer ignores the Windows settings "This PC" and shows "Libraries" while landing on "Home". (It should land on "This PC" based on my Windows Explorer settings."
Next, I will change the Start11 setting "Show Win-X menu when right clicking on the start button rather than the Start11 one" set to ON.
Now the Start Right Click Menu is the Win 11 version.
And, selecting File Explorer properly lands on "This PC".
Windows 11 Pro v24H2 build 26100.3323 and Start11 v2.5.2.1 beta here.
Just checked and I have a different behaviour... when using Start11 menù it defaults to Collections, when I enable the option it defaults to Home.
Don't know if there is some other setting to tune to obtain This Pc as default.
Baio
Yes, in Windows File Explorer Settings> ... (ellipsis)> Options>
Ok, changed the Windows option to "This PC" but using Start11 right-menù on Start button keeps defaulting to Collections.
Not a complaint; just an FYI.
When using the Enhanced taskbar and Custom taskbar button size, neither 256x256 icons nor Windows icons scale very well when used for a taskbar Folder menu pin. They are very jagged.
If I scale the 256x256 icon using Photoshop to match the Icon size set in Start11v2, it looks much better.
In the example below, the Start 11v2-2.5.2.1 Icons size is set as shown below.
In the example below, both of the Vivaldi icons are taskbar folder menu pins. The icon on the left is sized to 38x38 px, and the one on the right is sized 256x256 px. As you can see the 38x38 px icon looks good, while the 256x256 px icon scaled to 38x38 looks jagged.
Whatever method is being used to scale these icons in Start11v2 is not working very well.
All of the other ways to access this default to "This PC" with this setting including the File Explorer shortcut, so I have added that as one of my "Quick Access Shortcuts" on the Start11 Start Button.
I've been having a problem for a while when right-clicking on the taskbar. When everything works properly, a context menu appears with 7 items (the first item is "Configure Start11..." and the last is "Taskbar settings"). Sometimes when I right-click, the "explorer.exe" process restarts and Start11 is visibly reinitialized. Then a context menu appears with only 2 items ("Task Manager" and "Taskbar settings"). This problem is with both the official version and the beta version.
* [Bug] Please limit the maximum width of the Start11 context menu when right-clicking an application.
Some applications (Edge, Chrome, Firefox) add the full text of a web page to the shell jumplist history and Start11 ends up displaying a 3840x2160 resolution context menu:
* [Feature request] Please add a setting to remove the Start11 "More" submenu and show the items in the parent window when right-clicking the startmenu:
The default OS menu when right-clicking the start menu on Windows 11 shows the Run as administrator and Open file location options in the parent menu:
I regularly use the Run as administrator and Open file location options and accustomed to the default OS menu location. The Start11 "More" submenu breaks workflow and can be annoying since it doesn't always activate. The Run as administrator and Open file location options are very common and should be the first options at the top of the Start11 menu. For example:
* [Feature request] This feature where holding CTRL and clicking the start button will display the default start menu instead of Start11:
The same feature should apply when right-clicking application tiles on the startmenu to display the Explorer file menu instead of the Start11 menu. For example:
Start11 shows this menu when right-clicking the application:
Holding CTRL and right-clicking would instead display the Explorer menu:
This is what I get when I ctrl+right-click an app on my start11 menu. I'm using the Windows 10 style.
Hi, I ran the full 30 day trial of Start11 and didn't notice an issue. I've paid for a single licence today and when I click on the Start button, there is a momentary flash of a different start button/screen. Then Start11 appears and works correctly.
If I click the Start button a second time, Start11 disappears and the other start button/screen is visible (the one that momentarily flashed when I first clicked the Start button).
Start11 works fine, but this flashing of the other start button is irritating. Is there any way to remove it?
I'm running Windows 11 Home, Version 10.0.22631 Build 22631.
At your suggestion I installed the 2.52.1 beta and this issue is the same.
Many thanks.
The issue I reported in the 2.51 thread persists with beta 2.52.1:
"It looks like I ran out of replies for new accounts, but realized that I had originally registered my Start11 purchase through my Paypal email address and forgot about that when I created my forum account. So, at least for now DodgerOfDeBoulets = DodgeDeBoulet.
Anyway ... yes, it appears that it affects only Telegram, and then only when it's adjacent to Teams. It doesn't have that behavior when adjacent to any other applications or even Teams when Taskbar Enhancement is disabled."
Well this issue not appearing on my system. Not really sure why it appear on yours. Maybe try uninstall and reinstall Telegram and Teams.
Thank you,

Hi all, nice to have the forums back, as well the whole site back in order.
I had not checked the vertical taskbars on secondary monitors since sometime now, and unfortunately they stopped working on my setup (24H2 "upgrade" issue?).
No icon is shown on the taskbar for the open app at the secondary monitor. It works fine for horizontal taskbar.
Version 24H2 (0S Build 26100.3775) and the latest beta version of Start11 downloaded from the site. Please see below screen captures of the issue:
I've got a "black screen" issue going on that only seems to present when Start 11 is being used. The issue is present in both v2.51 and v2.52.
Description as follows:
Expected behaviour:
Start 11 start menu opens and closes without issue, without affecting anything else.
Actual behaviour:
Start 11 start menu opens fine, but close it causes the screen to go black. Screen then recovers after a few seconds.
Additional info:
When this issue occurs, an error is logged in Windows event log as follows:
System specs:
Any ideas what could be causing this?
Does the issue reproduce if Start11 is NOT installed?
Sean DrohanStardock Product Lifecycle Manager
No. The issue is NOT present if Start 11 is not used.
It doesn't even need to be "uninstalled", I can just turn off Start 11 so that the default Windows 11 Start Menu is used and the issue is fixed.

No consideration from Stardock? problem appears from time to time gets fixed sometimes after restart. I am not a regular user of vertical taskbar, even less on secondary monitors, but there is a bug nevertheless
We don't ignore reports if that is what you are questioning, Nikosyan... We have been working on many things for an extended period but we will get to it...
Thanks for posting, Nikosyan. I've had a chance to investigate a bit.
Difficult to be certain what the issue is when it doesn't reproduce 100% of the time. However, I can see you're using a custom start button image and the Small taskbar size. Do you also have the Start Button tab setting set to "Center aligned"? It seems the combination of these things is causing the issue.
In testing with a small taskbar, whenever I restart explorer (or sign into Windows) with a custom start button and center aligned both set, that seems to be the only way I can reproduce this.
Can you try changing the above setting to "left aligned", and then restart? Alternatively, you can try with the custom start button image set to Off. You could also try having both with the "Medium" taskbar size set to find something that works for you. When trying these, I do advise signing out and back in to experiment with any changes. Please let us know if that helps.

You nailed!!! I have all these settings activated. Will give it a try by changing the settings as you advise when I get some free time. Thank you.
And I thought that there was no attention to the forum anymore, but then I saw a reply to the next comment, so I found it strange not getting any answer. Thank you for your attention.
PS
I tried it, than main culprit is the center aligned taskbar, left start button and center aligned also does not work, when I change to left aligned the icons come back. Did not have to change the size of the taskbar and custm icon also worked. So I guess now the it is clearer where the bug is. Thanks
