Screenshots and videos are very helpful. Videos can be uploaded to a cloud drive service (GoogleDrive, DropBox, OneDrive, YouTube), with a shared link included in your post. Images can be copied and pasted directly into a post.
If there are specific apps that the app does not work (well) with, please note what apps and their exact versions. If any app is not common, a link to a trial version would be appreciated.
Thank you for your interest and any time you put into making Start11 v2 a better product.
Thank you! System Informer is the program I was trying to remember that had that style of graph for the process memory. I just couldn't remember the name. It's a little bit of a different view than SysInternals Process Explorer.
If this memory leak turns out to be caused by the peculiar power save modes in my two monitors I'm going to be really disappointed in Asus and Microsoft. Plugging in a new monitor shouldn't trigger a memory leak.
Just to document things so far. I'm running two Asus ProArt monitors. Both new to my system around the same time that Stardock released the 2.5 update for Start11. I may have been unfairly blaming the Start11 2.5 update for this problem when it may be due to the new monitors.Main is a 27" 4K (3840x2160) PA279CVSecond is a 24" (1920x1200) PA248QV
The 24" PA248QV is about to get replaced by a 27" 4K PA279CRV so I'll have two 27" 4K monitors. And both monitors will be at the same resolution and scale. Just one will be SRGB gamut and one will be wide gamut. I'll see how that goes. I just got too frustrated by how poorly Windows 11 handles moving the mouse between two monitors that are different resolutions, pixel densities, and scale. It's just too frustrating. I tried using Little Big Mouse and that utility did get the mouse to move properly between the two monitors. But I found Little Big Mouse to be buggy and didn't want to deal with those buggy situations. So I bought a second 4K monitor to fix that problem. That new monitor just arrived. Thanks Microsoft for forcing me to buy a second 4K monitor just so I could avoid the frustration I had when moving the mouse and dragging windows between two monitors with different resolution and scale. Windows 11 should be handling these multi-monitor issues at the OS level like Apple does. Do any of the developers or PMs at Microsoft run a muti-monitor setup with a 4K and HD monitor? Why hasn't Microsoft noticed this problem and fixed it? Frustrating.
I'll continue to investigate to better figure out what is going on. I still need to investigate if this memory leak happens if I uninstall Start11 and set the two monitors back to "Normal Level" power saving settings.
I am using both Start11 and DisplayFusion on the same PC. However, even if I turn off Start11's taskbar extension, I am unable to use DisplayFusion's taskbar extension. Is there a way to use DisplayFusion's taskbar?
What is stopping you using it?
DisplayFusion should able to provide the secondary taskbar with or without Start11 enabled.
While this is happening less with 2.52 beta than 2.50 and 2.51 stable, I am still having issues where if I am up from my desk and leave my computer locked for a while, it lags up everything. Nothing seems to resolve it besides killing Explorer, killing Start11, and then restarting Explorer. If I preemptively kill Start11 before I leave my computer, the issue doesn't happen.
Even if things aren't so bad my computer is too lagged up to be usable, sometimes Explorer seemingly randomly crashes and restart. If I preemptively killed Start11 at boot, that doesn't seem to happen.
A couple days back, I did try uninstalling Start11, rebooting, installing the latest version, and rebooting again. The issue just happened again, which is why I am writing now.
My experience seems to track with the above suggestion Start11 may have a memory leak when the computer is left on the lock screen. Other things that seem potentially relevant to mention:
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know few things
Thank you,Basj,Stardock Community Assistant.

I want to use DisplayFusion's taskbar functionality on my primary display. For Start11, I only need the Start menu feature. I don't mind if the Start11 menu can only be accessed via keyboard shortcuts.

I am not sure it has that feature does it?
DisplayFusion provides secondary taskbars but uses the primary taskbar on Windows.

When I was using only DisplayFusion, hovering the mouse cursor over an application on the primary window’s taskbar would bring up a small preview of the application. By right-clicking on it, I could access DisplayFusion’s functions (This included functions such as moving applications to another display). It’s the same function that DisplayFusion provides on the taskbar of the secondary window.
That should not be being altered by Start11 so you would need to speak to them about that.
1. Build 26100.2894
2. I can try. To my knowledge, Auto Dark Mode (the way I have it configured) doesn't do anything except change the system theme to dark at sunset and light at sunrise, so it wouldn't explain the issue happening in the middle of the day, but I will leave it disabled to see.
Also, my hypothesis about external displays seems to be wrong—I left the computer disconnected from external displays at the end of the workday yesterday, woke it up without connecting it to one this morning, and it still had the taskbar inexplicably stuck rendering at 1× on the laptop's 2× display. (And then Explorer crashed and restarted, restoring everything to normal.)
Sorry, I have should have mentioned this earlier, seem that your issue is unique to your system. I believe it is best to create your own thread, so that it can be deal properly, without mixing with others. Please repost your issue on a new thread so we can assist and continue from that thread.
Thank you,
Basj,Stardock Community Assistant
It doesn't seem unique to my system considering it seems extremely similar to what Aragain Falls described—well-spec'd machine with Win11 24H2 build 26100.2894, running Start11 just for the start menu, experiencing what appears to be (having ruled out my other hypotheses for my system) some sort of memory leak when left on the lock screen while running Start11 v2.5x, but not earlier versions.
So, I just noticed that the target for moving shortcuts to create groups has been improved. You now have to move the shortcut on top of the other shortcut to create the group.
This very much appreciated, where as before it was just too easy to accidentally create a group when all you wanted to do was move the shortcut.
Thank you.
The beta has been updated, please see the updated changelog here.
Not really understanding these additions. Please add screen captures to show where these options reside.
Adds in new option on appearance menu to let you pick if the background should use the selected color or not
EDIT: Okay so I found "Do not paint a solid color background," but it doesn't work if you have a Background texture applied.
Added a new option to make all apps / more buttons to only show on mouseover on the right click menu for Win10/11 menu styles.
Hi all, I am back here, I discovered a new bug in relation to the Live Captions tool.
Version 24H2 (0S Build 26100.3194), Start 11 v2.52. :
Enhanced taskbar bottom and live caption taskbar at the top of the screen all ok
Enhanced taskbar bottom and live caption taskbar at the bottom of the screen, live caption crashes.
No enhanced taskbar (windows 11 taskbar), live caption ok
Enhanced taskbar vertical, live caption also crashes.
I don't know if you can do something about it, because the live caption tool is behaving like another taskbar and does not know where the Start 11 taskbar is to avoid the conflict. I can live with the issue but wanted to bring this up since I discovered the issue.
That setting works with or without a background texture. If you have a texture then that will apply with transparency against the page rather than the colour you picked (if any). If the texture you are using has no transparent areas then obviously it doesn't do anything as there is no background colour and if you wanted no texture you would set it back to not having a texture. It is intended for when you have a png image but want to keep a colour for tabs.
That said it is entirely pointless on a group thats not a tab when you pick a colour as all it will do is set the background back to transparent which it could be already.
The right click option for show all apps/more buttons is on the right click menu on the page. This is only shown on menus that it applies to which is Win11, Windows Launcher and Windows Pro style.
Thanks for the report. We have that sorted internally now.
Something I have noticed with this (2.5.2.1) update is that in the Windows 10 style, the selection rectangle on the last shortcut clicked remains when you open the start menu again until you mouse over the menu. This not a big deal for me, just wanted to bring it to your attention.
Windows 11 Pro - 22631.4890
EDIT: After a recent restart, this behavior has been resolved.
The microphone active icon is upside down, also the GPS - location icon is also upside down the last time I saw it..
If you restart Windows Explorer, is that still the case?

Yes, still upside down after a PC reboot.
I believe, Sean asking for Explorer restart, not PC reboot. https://www.howtogeek.com/198815/use-this-secret-trick-to-close-and-restart-explorerexe-in-windows/.
Just uninstalled Start11 Beta 2.5.2.0-j201, rebooted, installed Beta 2.5.2.1-j203, rebooted and pleased to report the right click menus for the taskbar icons are now dropping down as intended when the taskbar is on the top of a multi-monitor setup. (Prior to this I am guessing they popped 'upwards' which is off the display) Thank you, now I can get back to work.
Pleased to read this and thanks for the update.
