Detailed steps to recreate the issue seen
Screenshots and videos are very helpful. Videos can be uploaded to a cloud drive service (GoogleDrive, DropBox, OneDrive, YouTube), with a shared link included in your post. Images can be copied and pasted directly into a post.
If there are specific apps that the app does not work (well) with, please note what apps and their exact versions. If any app is not common, a link to a trial version would be appreciated.
Thank you for your interest and any time you put into making Start11 a better product.
Where is the docked bar positioned?
If I place it on the left, the left side is a reserved area. If I place it at the top, the top has a reserved area. If i place it at the bottom then the bottom has a reserved area. I tried it on the 2nd screen and the same thing happened.
I have posted multiple times and every time majestically ignored, that I cannot see the thumbnails preview when the taskbar is vertical. One other user had also confirmed having the problem and nothing has happened.
I have installed the beta and now the latest 2.51 on an older backup laptop and the issue is still the same.
I have tried to debug the issue alone through the different forums about not seeing the thumbnails but has not changed anything, especially since they work perfectly with the horizontal taskbar, at the bottom or at the top.
Here is a video showing the difference betweeen vertical and horizontal, since it seems that you don't believe me:
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/yr1uwp1ud9qq96ivczcnm/Start11VerticalNothumbnails.mp4?rlkey=lhoj7qdejilvcm7ss7vo0o0pa&st=us9s958s&dl=0
Also I would like to remind that during a beta update the option for vertical taskbar was not showing and you made me do multiple uninstalls and installs, just to read later that the beta erroneously was only accepting Win 24H2 and not 23H2, or something similar.
So to be clear the ball is in your camp to try to find the problem.
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, I can not reproduce your issue on my system, please refer to screenshot below.
Please try, uninstall Start11, reboot immediately (important), download latest version available in your account product download page: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products . Install it, reboot immediately again. Retest it and report back.
Look like this issue is specifically for your systems. Please create a new thread on this issue and we can continue helping you there.
Thank you.Basj,Stardock Community Assistant.
I have repeated the uninstall reboot procedure multiple times all the way through the diffent beta updates and it was a waste of time at every attempt. As I wrote I also tried with an older laptop, slightly older Windows version. Problem still remains and only with vertical taskbar. I am not a developer and don't have dozens of different systems to try it on, but on 2 different ones it does not work. I am certain the problem is not unique with me and plenty of others simply do not bother with the vertical taskbar.
I also cannot reproduce your issue on my system, Windows 11 Pro - 23H2 22635.4805; Start11v2 - 2.5.1.2 Beta
Have you tried the purge as describe here? https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1349320730/Start+Menu+purging+and+re-installing
I mean, I think I share the same issue on my 2nd PC... but I never use that Windows feature to begin with so I never notice when it's not there. It had a clean install of Windows recently and the first version of Start11 it ever had was 2.49.2... seems to have the issue present in 2.51.2.
What issue are you referring to?
I tried

I tried the purge, another 30 minutes of my life wasted. I had to deactivate the antivirus and online threat protection (Bitdefender), then somehow Start11 (sddisplay.exe ) got in the blocked apps from the firewall and could not re-activate it, took a couple of minutes to fix it and after all these, the problem with no thumbnails remains exactly the same. I am fed up doing the beta tester (v2.50 is not even beta, although pretty rushed in my opinion from the beta stage).
Stardock should do its testing and for my case there is NO usable vertical taskbar, if I had to buy the software for this function, I would be asking for my money back. I wasted enough time, I like the program and my OCD does not let me stop trying to see if the broken functionality is corrected, but it is double irritating to write to a wall and sound like a broken record.
Sorry for your wasted time. If you are only on a trial, you don't have access to the Beta versions to test. Wait for the next stable version and try the trial again. It should be soon.
I am not on trial, you are not paying attention to my comments. I have bought a 5 pack licence since the launch of v.2 and have also the v1.... I am just explaining since ever that since the launch of the vertical taskbar beta (2.49?) it never worked properly on my system and I am not the only one, but most people do not care. Again the ball is at Stardock to correct the issue. I have spent too much time installing/uninstalling and now purging. I want to emphasize that if I were a new customer drawn by the new vertical taskbar announcement I would be really dissapointed.
EDIT: So to be clear, even at the latest beta version 2.51.2, after multiple installs0-/uninstalls and now a purge of the previous version, the vertical taskbar thumbnails do not work.
I believe there is a software conflict going on that's causing this for you. This would explain why it is working on the same OS for others
Are you using any mods which might impact explorer, the taskbar or any other OS functionality like splitting monitors into zones etc?
It would be very helpful if you were able to backup your settings in start11 and send the backup file to me via private message. That way we can use exactly the same settings as you. Any additional information on monitor setup (resolution, scaling factor, position if multiple monitors) would also be helpful.

Thank you. I sent to you my Start11 backup settings with a private message.
Basically the only software I use aside of Start11 is Displayfusion. But when I boot the laptop Displayfusion is not starting up and I load it only when docked with multiple monitors. The behavior is the same on the laptop monitor, or when docked with multiple monitors. The laptop is an LG Gram, the 2nd laptop was also an older model of the same brand.
I have also Windhawk with only one mod but I tried it also without it, and it is not installed in the old laptop. I forgot Powertoys, but nothing activated like Fancy Zones or anything that would impact the taskbar.
The four contiguous posts directly above mine. It'd be silly to multi-quote them when they are directly above. I only quote when the context is elsewhere.
Yes. Some of the quotes can get really long. Just mention the Reply #(s) you are referring to.
Well so no one is picking my bug and I'm just ignored? Great.
I understand the non english translations for the installer itself have been removed now until this can be resolved.
Thanks for letting us know.
Microsoft Windows Version 24H2 (OS Build 26120.3000) using Beta V2.51.
With auto-hide turned off from system setting, and auto-hide taskbar from Start11 is turned on, it works as intended, no issues here.
Next, we can turn off auto-hide from Start11 Settings, or by right-clicking on the taskbar and toggling auto-hide to OFF, which permanently shows the taskbar, no issues here.
Now, if we enable auto-hide again from Start11 Settings, or by right-clicking on the taskbar and toggling auto-hide back to ON, the taskbar hides as intended, but apps can no longer use that screen-estate when going full-screen.
Will there be window app preview for vertical taskbar when hovered?
Hello,It should be there, please refer to my screenshot, I posted above in reply#29.
Thank you,Basj,Stardock Community Assistant.
I just did a clean uninstall using Bulk Crap Uninstaller, which also ran Start11 Uninstaller program, and then deleting some registry key. I then proceeded to restart the computer, and then download the latest beta. The result is still the same. No window preview when hovered for vertical taskbar.
My system is Microsoft Windows Version 24H2 (OS Build 26120.3000) using Beta V2.51, Dev Insider
I hear what you are saying, Nikosyan, and I empathize but you appear to be ascribing malice where it may not belong.
Everyone here is posting issues that they believe are vital to their workflow. We have to prioritize what we can reproduce and the severity of the issue. That is basic software development and maintenance.
In other words, please do not take our inaction as a personal rebuke of your efforts and feedback.
You seem to be the only 'current' one and yes, the one this seems to bother the most. Several people; experienced users here (ty Pelaird) and our staff, have failed to be able to reproduce it. There are several reasons this could be, not the least of which is we dont have the same software \ 3rd party apps installed that you do. The best way to eliminate that as a possibility is a clean boot:
https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1334935592/Start11+Clean+Boot
Another option would b be to back up your settings on the 'About' tab, then reset them to the default, and add one feature at a time to see when te issue happens and report what setting does it. When found, export \ upload that settings files to a cloud drive service and post a shared link here for us to get it - along with the exact steps \ settings that had you see it.
If you no longer with to participate, while unfortunate, we do understand. We thank you for the feedback and time already provided.

Performed additional testing:3 monitors, pyramid style. Primary on top.(Top monitor connected to an AMD video card, bottom 2 monitors to the built-in Intel chip/ports)
Enhanced taskbar displayed only on primary, and configured to display at the top.(same behavior when enhanced taskbar is disabled)
Windows 11 24H2 Build 26100.2894 (up to date)Dell OP-7000 (up to date)AMD RX550 (up to date)
Issue - when I right click a running app in the taskbar, no menu appears. If I just hover, I get the proper preview thumbnail - but right click, nothing.
Enabled taskbars for all monitors, still displayed at the top for all of them. When I right click the app icons in the taskbars on either of the two bottom monitors the menu's drop down like they are supposed to but flicker for roughly 5 seconds before becoming stable. So top monitor, no right click fly out menu at all for app icons, bottom monitors it appears but flickers then becomes stable.
When I set the taskbar to display at the bottom, everything is stable and behaves as expected - either just the top monitor or all three.
I own a 5 pack, have it installed on other systems, all with just a single monitor running either AMD or NVIDIA graphics cards, one case just the built-in Intel video. All four other systems display taskbar at the top and it performs as expected.
So it's just my primary work PC causing the issue. As mentioned before...this was working just fine until update 2.5.x. And it has happened before, don't remember what V2 release but it eventually disappeared after one of your updates. (Not after a PC or graphics updates but one for Start11)
