v2.5 Beta Brings Vertical Taskbar Option on Windows 11
Get Start11 Now | Learn More about Start11 v2
Today we are releasing the Start11 v2.5 beta with new features, a couple of enhancements and bug fixes as well. The update is available now as a beta and you can download this release from the Download page of your Stardock account or through Object Desktop manager – learn more here.
New with version 2.5 is the ability to use a vertical taskbar on Windows 11. The vertical taskbar can be placed on the left or right side of the display and functions just as you remember from previous versions of Windows where this configuration was supported. To enable the new taskbar experience, open the configuration panel, click Taskbar, scroll to the Taskbar position option and select you desired configuration.
Along with the new vertical taskbar support, centered taskbar buttons with a left aligned Start icon is now supported on more than two monitors (previously only two screens were supported). While support for two monitors covered the majority of our users, we wanted to make sure power-users who have many displays can utilize this layout as well.
In addition to the new functionality, several bugs are being squashed with this update. We have improved compatibility with the latest Insider builds of Windows 11 that we expect to be released in the coming months and with this release, Start11 v2 will be ready for those updates.
Vertical taskbars have been highly requested by our community and we are happy to finally check this feature off the backlog. If you have any requests for upcoming features or find any bugs that we missed in our testing, make sure to join our community here.
And if you haven't tried Start11 v2 yet, you can download it from the app page and it is also included in the award-winning suite, Object Desktop.
How to enable 2.5 download, mine https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products still shows 2.49 version - Where can i download 2.5 and where is new option to enable vertical taskbar?
v2.5 Beta is UI: 2.49; 2.5 will be the release version.
Ok where is option to enable vertical taskbar -can't find it anywhere?
Love that you've done this - means I can ditch ExplorerPatcher once it's all working correctly.Mostly seems to work OK, but I have one observation. If I use auto-hide, my desktop icons get rearranged unless they are positioned to be clear of the taskbar pop-out area. This seems to be contrary to normal Windows behavior (which doesn't reposition the icons when the taskbar is auto-hid).
If I use ExplorerPatcher to put the taskbar on the left and then use auto-hide, I can have the desktop icons as far left as Windows will allow, so there's no weird gap down the left side of the screen. Uninstalling ExplorerPatcher and using the beta Start11 to put the taskbar on the left (and again using auto-hide), all of my desktop icons get moved from the leftmost side of the screen and I can't move them back across, so I end up with an odd-looking strip of unused desktop, even though the taskbar is being auto-hid.
Still showing as 2.49 for me in my Downloads section.
See reply #27 above.
I think the name implies that this is going to be start 11 v2.5 (i.e. this years big update; big enough to be half a new version of start 11)
Of course the v2.49.1 implies that this big update is still in active development, so enjoy being part of the process. When v2.5 is released that means development is complete.
Not seeing the option to enable vertical taskbar in 2.49

This is great, and getting closer to what I had in Win 7 and Windows 10. But when will we be able to get a "single" taskbar at the far left on my secondary display of my 3 display setup? Right now I can only have a single taskbar on the main display or taskbars on all displays.
I have just installed the trial version of Start 11 v2, do I need to wait until my trial is over to get the 2.5 Beta version?
Hello,Unfortunately, beta release only available for those who have paid license to such product.
Thank you.Basj,Stardock Community Assistant.
It's a welcome feature, I tested it, loved it but had to revert to my standard configuration because you cannot access app icons from across all virtual desktops
This doesn't work for me. I uninstalled it completely, rebooted and reinstalled the beta (2.4.9.2-j182) and nothing changes when I set the taskbar to the left or right.
Am I not getting the latest beta or something for some reason?
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know your Windows 11 full version and OS Build number. Please use Winver.exe.

Hi, it's Win 11 22H2, 22621.4317.
I didn't realize I was still on 22H2, I have no idea why Windows Update has never offered me 23H2 or 24H2 and check for updates doesn't work..
Edit: so installing an "enablement package" whatever that is, caused it to work! It hasn't caused Windows Update to actually offer me 23H2 or 24H2 but that's a different issue.
Please try to get the latest update for Windows 11, at least to v23H2. You should be able to do manual update, using this guide: https://www.partitionwizard.com/news/how-to-update-windows-11-manually.html
Thank you,

Is there any plan to adjust the size or arrangement of the taskbar clock text? For example, with the taskbar on the side of my desktop, the clock looks like this:03:3229-Dec-24
On my display the clock is actually smaller than the text above, its basically unreadable unless I get close to the screen.
Why not make it an option to adjust how the clock is displayed? You could break up Windows' "Short date" format:03:3229 Dec2024
I am not able to get the Beta version. I have several licenses (Start 11 V2 and Objectdock Desktop) and none of them will give me access.
It should be available on your Account Download page.

Just Double Checked and I see no option to download the
screenshot removed since it show your OD activation keys
Its right there. Red arrow, click on the link.
I am as useful as tits on a boar. I have that installed. I thought the download had to be 11 V2.5.
Thanks for the help!
I am happy to be able to help.
Dear all,I have v2.49.3 installed and I can select the vertical taskbar orientation ("Align left"). However, there is no effect; after the restart of the explorer that Start11 carries out, the taskbar remains at the bottom of the screen.
What am I doing wrong?
