Hello,
I have been using Fences for some years now, and I am still on Fences 4 (Version 4.22), as I have not seen any benefit to going to Fences 5. I am running Windows 11 23H2 currently, and its all working as it should.
Do I need to upgrade to Fences 5 just to get support for 24H2 when that rolls out to my machine, or will Fences 4 still work fine?
I dont want to pay for an upgrade that brings me no benefit, which is the reason I didnt just blindly update to Fences 5 already as it didnt provide any benefit over what I had paid for already.
Not trying to be cheap, but I also dont like paying for things that dont actually make any difference to me
Thanks
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. If you feel that way, I would recommend not to upgrade your Windows 11 23H2 to 24H2. Since from what I read the 24H2 do not offer anything significant for normal user. As for Fences 4, I believe Fences 4 has stop major development after Fences 5 was released. So moving forward, for best compatibility, please move on to Fences 5.
Thank you.Basj,Stardock Community Assistant.
Thanks for the reply, however I am not having any issues...It was a question asking if I would have any issues if I was to upgrade to 24H2.There is some specific things I will benefit from in 24H2 so your comment is a bit generalised sorry, but regardless it was asking if Fences 4 will work for 24H2 or will it have issues...Thanks
I have the same question, is version 4.22 compatible with 24H2??
I did a short test Fences 4.22 on my Windows 11 v24H2 and it look like it work normally for me.
Thank you,

Oke thanks, is still get no update true windows update and i wonderd of fences 4.22 was the cause
I too did not get the update option on my "Setting>Windows update" . For work, I forced update it by manually download 24H2 and install.
For me, it works completely except for "Show Fences" (press & hold, or toggle). The fences won't display above app windows.
It's the same for me! After updating to Win11 24H2 my Fences 4.22 does work - but most important function to me - showing fences above other apps, does not work any longer. Have to minimize every single app to see collapsed fences.. then I can see desktop background turning black when pressing Win + Space, but fences do not open as before. This means that productive work is no longer possible...
Will we get an update here - or are we forced do buy Fences again - as version 5?
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. Please refer here for your question: https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/2093482017/Fences+4+Peek+Feature+on+Windows+11+24H2
Thank you for your quick reply.
I have installed the trial version of Fences 5 - and Peek works again with this version.I can only find an upgrade for an annual license. Since I already have a permanent license for Fences 4, I would also like to buy a permanent license for Fences 5 again. I am already forced to pay something again just to get the state before the Windows update - I don't see any other advantages. Even if that is already absurd, I am willing to pay for the product again, but would also like a concession in the form of a discount for the permanent license, since annual payments are out of the question for me. I am disappointed that loyal customers are not granted this.
It's a shame that I will probably have to do without Fences in the future...
I have fences from the beginning and now i have paid for version 5 and also paid for pervious versions ( yes it's costs money) but i am happy with the software.
I am of the same opinion. I paid for the permanent license for Fences 4, and there is no upgrade path to a permenent license for Fences 5, only a yearly subscription, or to go to Object Desktop, which I do not want to pay that kind of money for - or have a yearly subscription for that either.
Why is there no discount to get a permenent license for Fences 5?
I dislike subscription models so much.
This peek feature isn't a new feature, and what we're experiencing is a flat-out bug. I purchased Fences 4 with the expectation that it would fulfill its features while running on Windows 11, as it was promoted as working on Windows 11. While I would be delighted to upgrade for new features I needed at some point, I will not be upgrading for the sake of a bug fix.
Of course it is a bug in the Stardock software Fences 4. Up until now everything worked under Windows 11, but after the 24H2 update it no longer does for peek feature.
And instead of forcing us to buy the latest version, the bug in version 4 should be fixed - the code must obviously be there if it works in Fences 5.
It is late in the game to even consider a Fences 5 permanent license even if it was 50 percent off. I am not sure exactly when Stardock plans to release Fences 6 but I am sure it could drop any day now.
My general feeling right now is that Object Desktop is really the way to go. Both for the customer and where I believe Stardock should be pushing people towards.
