Hey people,
I realized that the weapons on different Caps show different values, even if the weapon is of the same type. Example:
Radiance Battleship: Heavy Plasma 9.4
Progenitor Mothership: Heavy Plasma 6.3
There are multiple other examples. Is this on purpose? If so, how are the values influenced?
Thanks a lot.
Hello! The team has informed me that the damages are tuned per ship, so two ships with different turret configurations will not have the same damage.
The turret is a class of weapon, not the exact same weapon across the fleet.
From a lore perspective, individual classes of ships have different sizes and numbers of reactors, power conduits, coolant systems, and other internal components that would affect the fire rate and power output of turreted weapon systems. From the gameplay perspective, the ship has a role to perform and that rules every other stat the ship has.So currently, it's safe to say its working as designed
Thanks for the quick answer.
Follow up: Why is there a number of turrets then? Wouldn’t it make much more sense to just write the name of the turret and the complete damage output? That way we would have to do less math.
On a similar note: Why don’t we get a summarized DPS for each Cap Ship?
Thanks a lot!
You dont have to look at the stats if numbers cause you discomfort. They are actually very useful to most other people, who want to understand the game mechanics without having to search ingame files. Those help, but are not required.
The more math for you, the better. Youre not getting grades like in schools and their very often, incapable teachers who have no mind their own and dont even how to teach, math especially anyway maths can be fun.
Your post is so unhelpful
First of all you have no idea of my relationship with maths.
Secondly I am not arguing against having numbers in the game (which sure as hell don’t "cause me discomfort"). It is just not useful having a name of a weapon with a different damage output on (potentially) every ship together with a "number of that weapon". If a weapon always had around 10 DPS, then information like "4x this weapon" would be remotely useful. But since the DPS differs, it is just unnecessary multiplication of random numbers. It would offer no less information if the product of that multiplication was shown by the game (and the sum of all the damage on a single ship, for convenience). That way you could read the DPS of a ship at a glance and not having to do four multiplications with decimals and an addition of the four products.
And thirdly, I have enough maths in my life. Not in a way that seems to much to me, but I really don’t need to exercise. I want to enjoy a game with numbers, but without unnecessary effort.
You just created this "unnecessary effort" though. Its not hard to know what numbers mean. All caps have different types of outputs on their type of weapon systems. Its a very good tool to determine what kind of role they can fill and how they would perform across varied encounters. Its just like in real life, are there only one specific type of missiles like ever? Further more, guns have positions on the ship, not all, if ever, will hit the same target. PD shoot everywhere and has multiple targets, it makes no sense to take total potential damage in in fact it rarely is the case.
Your first post was already answered in this though, not sure what your second post was about, talking of how we don't know or assume your "math". That's weird.
I am not sure why the two persons in this forum who are unable to comprehend written English have taken to answering my proposal in the most unhelpful manner. I still hope someone responsible can tell me if my proposal of showing cumulated damage numbers for weapons/cap ships is at all viable.
Bringing this thread back to the original topic. From what I'm told: You're told how many turrets there are because that is important information. There are instances where not all turrets are able to achieve a firing solution on a target. Tooltip information has to be a compromise between useful and concise. Summarized DPS per ship would be extremely conditional and only lead to more confusion when actual and ideal DPS doesn't line up because of the conditions of active combat. It also may be worth your while to join the discord and compare thoughts on these things with other players
Thank you for your useful answer. That actually makes sense now.
Yours were super unhelpful as you were asking to make the game worse. The depth of ignorance and confidence - the Dunning-Kruger effect exhibition displayed in your posts is exemplary. As well as telling others who understand and explain to somebody who is unable and unwilling. That is a cherry on top
Keep your enlightened suggestions coming though, they are a great way to sabotage the game in the future if they are ever listened to That passive-aggressive tone, the victim, how difficult it is to calculate, the terror of numbers. I guess developers should use colors to signify the damage output and so on for those who are unable to perform simple calculation in a game.
Perhaps, resources, their amount and unit costs, these too should be simply made according either to a color, width, length, perhaps with a line, depending on how big it is to prevent overwhelming impaired users, or those suffering from 'numberophobia'
Research in few seconds ,Very short while, short while, a while. longer while, pretty long, long. I think damage type, shield and hull info could also be lumped together into 'resilience', but also not using numbers. Very low, low, very tough at the other end of spectrum. A super-helpful way to make the game really accessible to even children who can't even read. 3-5 years olds ?
This could be done via those lines, coloring, length, breadth of said lines.
For overall resilience, you put a picture of a castle tower, or something that looks stronk and you put that coloring, length, breadth to signify even to those who cant read. Pretty innovative, right ? No, not innovative, super-Helpful !
Toma your tone is becoming both condescending and a bit rude in this thread, I would kindly ask you to refrain moving forward
understood.
Listen, Kiddo. Most of the adults in this hobby have a rich and fulfilling life outside of video games. Hence we don’t have to get validation from boasting our awesome maths skills in front of strangers on the internet. The little Trumpian fit you threw there, about your fear of colours, how video games should be gatekept from disabled people and other condescending insanity, tells me how sad and boring your life must be. I honestly hope from the depth of my heart that you will find happiness some day.
That being sad, I finally had the time to actually look at the numbers (so far only for Vasari), which told me a few interesting things:
I hope I will find the time to look at the Advent and TEC ships soon.
Table below ("Attack" is DPS w/o PD):
Alright guys, its clear at this point that any further contributions to this thread will result in hostility from one party or another, so I will be closing this thread in 24 hours
I wrote that I did understand and as such, I will not be moved by provocation.
