I have this issue where ObjectDock regularly freezes for 10-15 seconds when I try to access items on either the top or bottom Dock...
Very Annoying! makes it almost unusable as it's faster just to use the plain old Windows menu or icons...
Has anyone else had this problem or know of any fixes???
On Windows 11 Pro Build: 23H2 Processor AMD Ryzen 9 3950X 16-Core Processor 3.50 GHzInstalled RAM 64.0 GB
No issues with any other software freezing. And I don't remember having this issue with the Demo, but of course once I made a purchase it goes south...
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. If I remember correctly, no regular freezing report so far on ObjectDock. Need more information on your system.
Thank you.Basj,Stardock Community Assistant.
I have exactly the same problem @Channeler1
ObjectDock 3.01 freezes for about ten seconds.
When I get tired of waiting, I kill the ObjectDock process and restart it
Sometimes the hourglass cursor spins for a few seconds without any apparent reason.
Sometimes the icon title no longer appear. Sometimes I can't switch tabs (for Tabbed Dock)
With ObjectDock v2.x, I didn’t have any problems for 17 years across all versions of Windows XP / 7 / 10 / 11.
I’m a bit disappointed with this new version.
I don't have any links to a network drive, only C:\Program.
Win11 23H2 (22631.4037)
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. It might be ObjectDock v3 don't get installed properly on your system. Have you tried purge and reinstall as mentioned here: https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1349320768/ObjectDock+purging+and+re-installing? Try it and report back.
I am having exactly the same problem with Object Dock 3 freezing / being unresponsive on Windows 11. It sometimes take 30 seconds for the launcher to "respond" when I hover over it.
It's like it's in some sort of deep-sleep mode and takes a long time to "wake-up".
This is extremely frustrating and disappointing.
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, I can not reproduce your issue on my Windows 11 system. Refer short video below. Need more information on your system.
Hi,
Thanks for the response. The OS is Version 22H2 (OS Build 22621.4602).
ObjectDock version 3.01, updates enabled. After hitting the "X" to close the "about" menu, it took 11 seconds for it to actually close the window.
I only use the tabbed dock.
I previously used version 2 and it worked on Windows 11. I decided to continue supporting Stardock by purchasing my third license and upgrading to version 3.
I am extremely reticent to just nuke the install because it took me literally months to set-up the icons. For me, it is very difficult to input and organize the icons. It is laborious and I just don't want to erase everything and start over.
There is also the issue that now, after upgrading from version 2 to 3.01, when I go to "change icon", none of the "bundled images" show up. Perhaps I will start a separate thread about that.
Thanks for your time!
Hi again,
Looking further into this, I backed up two folders:
\AppData\Local\Stardock\ObjectDockPlus
and
Program Files (x86)\Stardock\ObjectDock\Bundled Images (where I had added my own images as well, so I needed this directory)
I ran Purge_ObjectDock.bat. I then restarted Windows.
Upon investigation, the Purge_ObjectDock.bat missed around 46 or so registry entries so I deleted them as well. I restarted again.
I then installed ObjectDock3 using ObjectDock3_setup_sd.exe.
I closed the program. Then I renamed \AppData\Local\Stardock\ObjectDockPlus to "ObjectDockPlusNew" and copied over the backup I made earlier. I also copied my backed-up "Bundled Images"to Program Files (x86)\Stardock\ObjectDock\Bundled Images.
--> On the positive side, the "Change Icon" issues I had previously encountered are now gone. I am very happy about this!
However, even with this new install, ObjectDock 3 still goes to "sleep" and sometimes requires 40 seconds to wake-up on mouseover. ObjectDock 2 was a bit sluggish on Windows 11, but ObjectDock 3 is often totally-unresponsive. Even clicking the "x" close button sometimes takes 8-10 seconds.
What changes were made between OD2 and OD3? Was it just a new binary generated from a modern development environment compatible with Win11? Or were there significant code changes? Because it seems like the sluggishness of OSD2 (which I could live with) has now been exacerbated in OD3.
Thank-you for your time and attention reading this. I love Object Dock, I think it's the best launcher out there. I would love to see a fix for these issues.
Still, I wonder if there something else is causing it. I don't see the unresponsive issue on my system. Also if I recalled correctly, I don't remember reading similar report from others on Objectdock v3.
If you on Windows 11 Pro, you could try testing it in Windows Sandbox and see if the issue also appear in there. Refer here: https://support.stardock.com/space/SHC/1416855562/Testing+Start+in+Sandbox.
Note: The instruction is for Start10/11, but I believe it should also work for Object Dock.
Try it and report back.
Thank you,

The title of this thread as created by user Channeler1 is literally "Objectdock Freezing in Windows 11".
The first line of this thread is "I have this issue where ObjectDock regularly freezes for 10-15 seconds when I try to access items on either the top or bottom Dock..." Channeler1 then goes on to write, "Very Annoying! makes it almost unusable as it's faster just to use the plain old Windows menu or icons...".
User DamienCR of this thread has exactly this problem. He writes "Sometimes the hourglass cursor spins for a few seconds without any apparent reason. Sometimes the icon title no longer appear. Sometimes I can't switch tabs (for Tabbed Dock)"
I have all of these problems - exactly as the other two users describe, although I estimate the "freezing" time to be longer.
So this is a known problem that at least two users took the time to report. Imagine how many more users simply gave up in frustration.
I too, have this "freezing" issue, although the time period for the freezes is often around 20-40 seconds.
I will attempt to install the virtualization environment you linked to.
Thanks again for your time and attention.
I spent a few days attempting to get virtualization working on my machine - hours wasted - to no avail. In retrospect I think it was ridiculous to be asked to invest so much energy into installing a virtualization environment.
I did, however, test Object Dock on another machine. The test reveals the possibility of a fundamental flaw in the way ObjectDock handles icons and shortcuts.
Quite simply, the more icons and shortcuts you use, the slower and more unresponsive ObjectDock becomes. This behavior can be replicated in both OD3 and OD2 (although Object Dock 2 seems to handle larger iconsets better than OD3).
If you use Object Dock like a dilettante, and install a few icons and shortcuts here and there, everything is fine. But if actually use Object Dock for its intended purpose, it will eventually slow to a crawl, essentially becoming almost totally unresponsive in the end.
Using search engines, I have found people complaining about "slow object dock". This message alone has a total of three people trying to bring this to Stardock's attention. There is no way this is not a known problem. And if it isn't it certainly should be now.
Thanks for your time and attention.
