Screenshots and videos are very helpful. Videos can be uploaded to a cloud drive service (GoogleDrive, DropBox, OneDrive, YouTube), with a shared link included in your post. Images can be copied and pasted directly into a post.
If there are specific apps that the app does not work (well) with, please note what apps and their exact versions. If any app is not common, a link to a trial version would be appreciated.
Thank you for your interest and any time you put into making Fences a better product.

Looks cool but the permanent price-tag continues to bewilder me. Not to mention the cop-out of relying on this forum for customer service to your retail customers...
All that said, in the event this goes on sale for $20 I'll be ready and waiting, that is, if you can answer for me some questions your customer support people never got back to me about(I used a different account for the forum as the one I've used with SD is my full name):
1. How exactly does it work? A year of updates from date of purchase or until version 6? Because y'all just jumped pretty significantly closer to v6 since the last update.
2. Are there any differences between the business version and the personal or home version? The price seems to be the same for 5 machines for the "permanent" license I just wonder if they behave differently. Like, is the business one more robust and less eye-candy-focused or is it more a matter of which marketing list we get stuck on?
3. Would purchasing the business version entitle me to direct customer support or is that left to a forum as well?
Where da fuck has snapshot / screenshot to backup organizes icons version is now?!
NVM, found it
With update... dropdown menu was HARD to find.
We use our forums for basic support to help the most people for the longest period of time. If we work tickets for support issues, it helps just one person and just that one time.
The forums are staffed with support personnel, developers, and seasoned users of our products and issues are answered 24\7. It takes just a moment to see that we have a variety of issues, large and small, that are posted to the forums and leagues of individuals - most notably, the developers themselves - participate in the solution. That beginning, middle, and end to all forum threads exists for all to see and be helped by for all time. A ticket, once closed, is never seen again and helps no one else going forward. If a well-known example would help here, Nvidia users are more helped by Reddit posts than by their ticket system.
There are a variety of differences. Please see the product page itself:
It allows for curated deployment help as it can be quite involved in setting up any given product for thousands of users in their environment.

Fences 5.80 installs with no problems on Windows 24H2 (26100.1150) on my Surface Laptop 7 (ARM Snapdragon X Elite processor).
I can also successfully activate it, but then it warns me that only Object Desktop subscribers can run this on ARM right now (regular Fences license release will come later?). I am licensed for the full Fences 5 product and deactivated the machine where I used to run Fences 5 on Intel.
I can activate using a 30-day trial with no further nags about ARM compatibility. Is this limitation arbitrary or a bug?
I believe Fences 5 on ARM is only available with an Object Desktop subscription, as it is still in pre-release testing.
That's where I'm confused. Fences had issues in years past on ARM but started working at some point (no warnings and no block on activation). This block and warning is new.
This is correct, ARM support for Fences is currently only available as part of Object Desktop.
After downloading Fences 5.80, when scrolling through icons, they still move 1 1/2 lines rather than one line at a time. No other applications show this behavior.
Windows Ver 23H2, Build 22631.3810 using a Logitech G502 Hero Mouse.
Restarting Explorer or rebooting computer have no effect on the issue.
See Fences 1 and 3 below.
What happened to the naming / renaming ability for the titles of the Layout backups?
I have 4 different locations where I work from. Home, work, lake, and remote work site.
I use the naming / renaming to help me find the correct layout.
I also liked the "Re-take snapshot" option as well.
Thanks, Chris

Is this something you are proposing, or something that exists. I don't see this on 5.80
The version, 5.80, was shown in my video. Its just me showing where it is and such.

Did you see the screenshot I added in Reply #15? I'm not seeing this feature in 5.80.
I believe the layout title will only appear if you take the layout snapshot manually. All automatic layout snapshot don't have name to it. For example those daily backups will not have name tagged to it. And The Pre-install Backup and First-Use backup also don't have name tagged to it.
Added: I noticed with v5.80 Click on "Save backup" it no longer show dialog box for naming that save backup. Hence there is no name tagged to it. Hence the rename do not appear on these backups. All those older manual saved layout backup does have name tagged to it and hence the rename option do appear on it.
I have forward my observation to Support for their review.

EDIT: Fixed please see next post.
Windows 11 ProVersion 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3958)It would seem, yet again, that my 6 monitor setup isn't eligible for an update. 5.80 doesn't work correctly for me. I have had to revert back to Fences5 v5.5.4.2-j56 pre releasehttps://forums.stardock.com/528092/get;3931676This time, I have lost the ability to see snapshots (backups seem to be missing from the program) or did I miss something in the change log?Any information you may need can be found in my past bug reports. Thanks
Please ignore. It seems I had to re-tick "Maintain Daily Backups"
I can't figure out why Stardock made it so we now have to click on "Restore a Backup" to see the snaphots. Where as in previous versions the were visible by default?
Is this a Bug or by design?
Thank you ckvick, Pelaird (and basj), I've logged the current state of naming layout backups functionality internally.

So yes, renaming does not function as it once did.
No doubt, and as the OP stated, you created 'backups' to account for different monitor configurations that you were in - basically following the support we gave for such situation.
However, if with the new 'store layouts on a per-monitor-basis, those workarounds are no longer necessary.

I want to be clear on this - its not logged as a 'bug', but rather to keep an eye on a possible feature add \ evolution. How it worked before was never intended to be what it was often used for - a workaround for different monitor configurations that Fences had trouble maintaining on its own (for reasons outside its control most often). However, that is no longer the case so the feature was re-focused to what it always was indeed to be, backups.
I'm curious, where are the tags stored?
Thanks for looking into this. Chris
Still got the "small desktop icon spacing" issue, making them overlap in big size mode. I'm a little tired, it's unusable, I must roll back to Fences 4.
