I play on godlike turn 117 no single battleship made by AI
AI never make battleships in my games and don't make fleet limit at max logistic
I play on godlike and its too easy cause even agressive/military AIs don't priority military techs expect weapon components, but this compononts are useless if they don't build ships like battleships or don't make fleet limit techs
I notice military rarely seems to get placed in the 3 discount tech choice.Maybe the A.I always chooses those techs.
I get military tech from discount too, there is high change if you research logistic tech that next tech will be logistic too etc
The one most people find rarely selected is the Government branch.
I get military quite a lot with all 3 sometimes being ship techs, Offense, Defense, Logistics, Ship Consruction, ect.
I posted about this in discord. AI's fleets even in a very late game are almost always composed of cruisers, frigates and bombers. Sometimes they build battleships and even dreads, but they are very few. Not only that but AI do not prioritize defenses usually and use low tier doctrines, like barrage instead of assault. I think AI should always aim at quickly researching big ships and adding them in every fleet, supporting them by smaller ships, while fitting the latest tech modules on them and using highest tier doctrines available. As of now, even on godlike AI is a joke, as I rarely lose even a single ship in the late game.
guys I just won 1v5 on godlike in early game ^^
It doesn't look like the ship/combat AI was updated for Warlords in any meaningful way. Only fighters, bombers, frigates and cruisers are being built always using the same tactics and targets. If each AI was building every ship type available to it and each AI favored certain tactics and targets and equipment it would make the game so much better/interesting/fun.
It's great giving cool new things to the player but if the AI can't or won't use them it's actually a big issue. As things stand the game really needs an AI update when Stardock are back from their holidays... oh and the AI is ignoring relics as well at the moment for some reason.
In addition to what already have been said, I would add that I haven't seen AI use higher tier doctrines (like assault\scirmisher) and all these new modules, like nano-repair, scramblers, etc.I imagine if AI was trained to build their fleets in pyramid structure, with big\huge hull ships always being a priority and cruisers\frigates supporting them it would make the game more challenging\interesting.
I think the belief that bombers are somehow good has to go, They are not, especially not in the mid\late game. Even in big numbers and even with cheesy tactics like shield bubble (which AI doesn't use of course). Especially given that only 1 tiny ships can be produced each turn and high difficulty AIs waste a lot of production on them. Bombers\fighters could be somewhat relevant if there was such thing as tracking in the game, when bigger ships with bigger guns would have a hard time hitting tiny ships. But there is no such thing, so they become useless almost from the start of the game, when you can build frigates.
I really hope Stardock addresses AI issues, because as soon as the game stops being challenging, it soon stops to be interesting to play.
small ships is just rekt by any bigger ship using sniper or just added laser weapons they are rly bad
you lost small ships in ANY battle while when you use only destros/battleships/dreds you don't lost ships in every battle, small ships is bad in ANY situations while dreads can use rockets/lasers with sniper doctrine and get rid small ships any way
I wouldn't say small ships are useless. The small ship with the massive accuracy bonus can get pretty jacked with shield bubble covering defenses.

here are 2 builds of dreads with sniper doctrine
1 for mid game 2nd for late game
one dread build like this can kill 42 bombers alone cause they can't break his armor and he have enough accuary to take down bombers with sniper and laser weapons + he have ability to kill bigger ships if they are there with missles, so nope, small ships are garbage vs full armored dreads or battleships
armor > energy shields any time
They changed armor so it loses 5% every hit. They changed shields so they only take the square root of damage (seems to be per weapon but I've struggled to verify exactly how it works). Accuracy doesn't impact evasion as far as I'm aware.
Are you sure you are speaking current information?
The bombers should shred the armor away completely in a single round. I've found armor to be completely useless.
Instead I have a mix of ships all with no defenses what-so-ever flying with a big ship equipped with nothing but shields and the bubble shield that extends it to fleet. The shields inherently mitigate all incoming damage by the square root and every ship has the same shield value regardless of size or build.
I have tested it and single dread killed 42 small ships solo when AI tried to snipe my dread who wanted to join main fleet, he lost like 60% of total hp and killed all of them
energy shield is garbage cause they don't work with armor so if you get hit for total 100 hp you lost 100 shield, it can drop in single round with big number dps
look on 2nd screen it have like 200 dps from lasers and missles, its one hit to kill your shields right away
Honestly, at this point I'm more concerned with how not to use certain modules\tactics to give AI a chance and make the game more interesting... Ideally on highest difficulties this shouldn't be the case - AI should keep players busy looking for new ways to defeat it. I think it's not that hard to achieve actually: just make AI prioritize big\huge ships and pyramid sctructure fleets without tiny ships, high tier doctrines and balanced defense\offense modules including warlords ones. Also it is a good idea for AI to have at least several fleet composition and doctrine\targeting priorities combinations so that players can't adapt easily.
Here is an example of how "good" AI on godlike: a player destroys several fleets with just one ship (frigate).

I believe this. The AI makes bad ships. They doesn't utilize bubble shields or really build shields at all.
However, armor will only absorb 20 hits before it disappears. Just a few patches ago armor used to last infinitely. It's not true any more. The issue here is 20 hits is nothing. Stuff like living ships tends to give more value (it's a bit broken).
Shields are actually pretty OP now that they square root damage. A single huge ship with bubble shields can provide a huge shield to every ship on the fleet for free. Shield's take the square root of each damage source, so they are really hard to pop.
Thing is, you won't notice the AI taking advantage of any of this. You'd have to try it yourself on your own fleets.
armor lost 5% every ROUND not every HIT
combat lasts 20 rounds
how do I know? cause my dread vs 42 bombers got hit for 0 dmg in round 2 3 4 5 etc from hits and if I have rly bad rng I get hit for full hp from hits but armor still worked after round 3
you can get hit like 50 times in one round and you lost only 5% this time
the only thing bad about armor you can get kill if you have bad RNG in absorb
for example if you have 100 dmg on any weapon you roll dice every round 1-100 damage
if you have 100 armor you roll and dice 1-100 absorb from armor
so if you have bad rng you can get armor penetrated, shield don't have RNG thing shield is just bonus hp
but in % of probality armor still wins
Maybe you just not far enough turn wise. I am at around turn 215 on a lower difficulty bright and the AI is making battleships.
in turn 120-130 I already have max fleet limit, dreads best weapons and win a game and almost all techs researched, so gl with this xDDDDDDDDD
turn 215 are you kidding ?
another problem with godlike AI, they have lot of bonus production and they build small ships so minimal build turn is 1 on small ship while they can build destroyers in 1 turn or battleships in 1 or 2 turns depons on planet, this is rly back them back
I probably just not as good as you lol. I play with like 20 aliens on biggest map but lower difficulty. My last game I went up to like turn 600 lol.
One time I got my logistics up to 133. I make dreadnought ship with weapons, armor, repair module, repair nanite and probe module, then put a survey module on it. Then I send out the ship to only survey the red anomalies because sometimes they give a logistics boost sometimes. I also make a dreadnought ship with 100 sensor range, proble module and lots of engines to quickly scan the big sectors.
fleet limit is how much ships you can make in one stack, cmon I play on godlike after 3 day when I bought this game,
4k games like stellaris is much harder
bumb
Im pointing the team towards the feedback provided here for Godlike A.I so we can take a deeper look at it.
YAY! make battleships great again!
Battleships should be built on all levels.Godlike A.I is just cheating and not better A.I.
