I'm not sure about others but I feel something that would add to the visuals of this game would be adding directional thrusters (and possibly reverse thrusters) to add to the feel of large space ships moving in space.
Thank you for the suggestion, Ill make a note of it. Currently we don't use thrusters because the travel system is imagined to be more advanced and involve internal gravity manipulation rather than external thruster propulsion, but I can appreciate the visual representation idea
Although I also prefer directional thrusters, it is possible to orient the ship with inertia wheels and have it move only back and forth but they would go tokyo drift in space . Although as they are now and to be realistic with the science we know, it should have thrusters in front or rotate the ship and put the thrusters facing the opposite side to decelerate. But for me It would be fine with a few small thrusters in front.
Only vaguely related but I don't want to throw it into it's own topic, but strikecraft and missile thruster trails are weird. (also, they look the same in cinematic view and it makes me sad)
The trails are way too long, and maybe more importantly and relevant to the topic of directional thrust, I feel like they'd look better if they weren't full length all the time. My initial thought was that aside from being shorter all around, they should be shorter still and "flare up" to highlight acceleration/course corrections.
No idea what's doable (or what's moddable, if I end up looking at this or the inevitable UI effects mods after release), but right now it's a lot of samey looking streaks that could use some more love.
The flare up idea is an interesting suggestion, I don't know if its currently possible with focus on other developments in game, but ill makea note
