I use Windows 11 styleI use custom icons by myself.I made a short video for you to see.https://youtu.be/6WViXjB_d-sOnce it happened that the loading was doubleWith previous versions I have never seen this thing about loading the icons when you open the startup for the first time
So instead of .25 seconds, its now .5 seconds?
If you try other menu styles, does it still happen? If you do not use custom icons, can you still reproduce it? If you back up \ reset, can you reproduce it with the default settings?
If it works as expected with the default settings, and you - 1 by 1 - change it to how you had it, what change eventually affects performance?
Sean DrohanStardock Product Lifecycle Manager
I tried changing the menu to other styles but it's the same thing. when you update the explorer or when you access the computer the first time you open it, the icons must load.
I also tried to uninstall start11 with Revo Uninstaller and the bar installed again but nothing.
So its only the 1st time it loads the Start11 menu in 0.5 seconds; everytime after that it loads in 0.25 seconds?
Also, please review the remainder of my reply and respond with the results.
yes the first time you open the start menu the icons have to load the time is always almost similar only once it happened that it took longer (I haven't measured the actual time to be honest)
I thought about something, could the loading of the icons be affected by the fact that the .png icons are located on a secondary hard disk?
I would like to point out that I have always kept the icons on the second hard disk and I have never had any problems
Or could it be that there are many icons or there are a few more tabs, could this influence this?
Anything that puts load on the process will impact performance, yes; whether that is increased file sizes, number of pages, or if it has to go out to a secondary resource that may not be on the same device (network location) or of the same quality (a spinny drive vs SSD).
There are still these tests to perform if you wanted to trace when the issue happens
I just did the two steps you indicated in the photo.
I also see with the default settings a strange animation when you access the start menu for the first time.
I have always used start11 since the first version and have never noticed an icon loading when opening the start menu for the first time.
I made a little video of a few seconds with the start with the default settingshttps://youtu.be/qIO0qkvJPUY
Two issues, but may be connectedCould you add an option to disable gaming controller input? because if a controller is drifting a bit, then it's affecting when you turn volume up/down, or rightclicking an icon in the taskbar, then the icon will close itself. It was also a problem in v1seems like right now the only option is to turn off or unplug the controllersteps to reproduce: plug in a controller, push joystick in a direction and try to control rightclicking icons might be a general bug, as they can sometimes also close when controller is off/unplugged
also tried changing desktop scaling to 100%, but that didn't help
Microsoft Windows [Version 10.0.22631.3593]
Win11 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3593)
Running latest stable of Start11 v2
as mentioned, this is an old problem, was also happening in v1
Did MS release an update that no longer allows/works with Start11 v2.08 that will allow us to center the MS Copilot icon? It's now only showing on the very far right, and I can't find a way to center it with all my other icons like before this latest update. Anyone know?
Edition Windows 11 Pro
Version 23H2
OS build 22631.3737
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.22700.1009.0
Yes. MS moved the Copilot icon to the far right on the other side of the Notification (bell) icon. There is currently no way to center it.
Figured as much, thanks for the reply, hope that the Stardock team can fix this with an update, as I have no idea how anyone at MS thinks that the placement of the icon to the very far right, looks good... It doesn't!!!
Hello,
I still have a bunch of the issues reported in this thread from February: https://forums.stardock.com/525944/new-start-menu-11-issues
Specifically:
- Every hour or so, I'll click on my desktop background and it starts to go black and if I click and drag, that entire area just stays black.
- I also get a black box around my desktop icons during this time if I click on them, which is usually my first sign to move right to my next point.
- This requires the Windows Explorer process to be manually restarted, and often takes 2-3 times before everything goes back to normal.
(It's almost like when Windows (To be honest, I don't think I've had the following Windows issue since moving off Win10) taskbar or the notification tray gets wonky and has missing icons and you have to either manually restart the Explorer process or just run an sfc /scannow for the taskbar to go back to normal--I've done both including the whole DISM command as well to make sure)
- Sometimes at the Windows login screen, the password entry disappears upon entry and only shows the lock screen wallpaper. I can still type during this and can login if I hit Enter on the keyboard afterwards.
Start11 is on version 2.0.8.1.
This is on a clean install of Windows 11 Pro v10.0.22631 Build: 22631 with Windows updates run and my drivers updated.
The only software I have installed is my VPN, BitDefender (Tested without 3rd party AV as well, this is just my standard and I had add exclusions, if necessary) VS Code, VMware Workstation, WinRAR, Steam, Mozilla, and Python 3.12.4.
^ The software is listed as I saw moderator posts in many forums advising to check to see if there are other applications that would interfere with the Windows UI. I don't THINK anything I listed would.
I've been a fan of Stardock since I was young and have finally got the Object Desktop subscription. I've only installed Start11v2 so far to see how it effects me system. Hopefully some of these issues get addressed and I can start playing with more of the software suite.
Thank you!
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. I looked through that thread, I don't see your post, did you create a new account? Anyway, since your issues are unique to you. Please create your own thread so we can help you from there.
Thank you.Basj,Stardock Community Assistant.
Do you also use Stardock Fences?
It sounds like a resource leak in the explorer process to me.
I'd like to report a bug I've noticed for a while - been present for at least the last few versions.
Currently, when the taskbar is placed at the top of the screen, clicking the internet/sound shortcut on the right side (the one that opens the little panel that has stuff like WiFi, Bluetooth toggle, volume control, etc.) does not allow it to be closed as normal by clicking it again.
In fact, there seems to be a dead-zone introduced around the area of the button and panel, especially to the left of it, where clicking does nothing while the panel is open. I have to click relatively far away to get it to collapse again. I've tried clicking the clock and various other elements on that side of the taskbar, and there's no response in any way in the zone surrounding the area.
I've made a screenshot that will hopefully help illustrate.
I have been able to reproduce this with several different taskbar thicknesses and toggles enabled/disabled, but here is my exact configuration in case it's some strange, specific bug:
- Enhanced taskbar enabled- Taskbar size: small- Alignment: top- Vertically center taskbar buttons: On- Combine taskbar buttons: Never- Blur wallpaper under taskbar: On- Use automatic color for taskbar: On
I'm currently running Windows 11 ver. 23H2, build 22631.3737
May be noteworthy that I've done a clean install of my OS (and Start11) since first noticing this bug, and it has persisted upon reinstallation on a clean system.
Thanks for any help, and please let me know if you need any further details.

Hello! I just installed this new version and noticed one unpleasant error in the program. My system is Windows 11 24H Enterprise LTSC (RU). After installing the program, the “Task Manager” item in the “Taskbar” context menu began to be displayed in English! Please fix this. Thank you in advance for your response.
If you go here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Start11\lang
...and open the ru.lng file (Notepad is fine) and add the following to the end
...save, reboot, does it then render properly?
Thanks! Works fine!
Excellent.
If that translation is correct, I will update the language files and it will go out with all future installs.
Hello! There is one more menu item that has not been translated. Please look at the screenshot.
I also noticed a few unpleasant things:1. Search in the Start menu (in my case, Windows Pro) with "Everything" installed, works like a regular search in Windows, and a full search starts working only after launching "Everything". Please watch the video.
2. After installing new programs, they do not appear in the "All Programs" list until the PC is restarted. After reboot they start to appear.
If you find issues in other areas, please create new, unique, threads for them.
Hello! I created a new topic here, I'm not sure I did everything correctly. By the end of the working day, my head doesn't work well...
