Game crashes on start with message "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142)", nothing in AppData\Local\sins2\logs.
Hello! To clarify, the game launches and than crashes before reaching the main menu, or is crashing for you once you setup and start a game from the menu? If so is it against A.I other players or both? Lastly, are you by chance using any mods with the game?
I'm sorry, should have provided more details initially. The game crashes on launch. I click the launch button through the Epic Games Launcher (EGS), or I run the game executable (".exe") directly, but it crashes regardless of the launch method. I've tried running the game as both my current user account and with administrator privileges, but the crash persists.
Alright the next question would be if I may ask for your builds specs?
Same issue for me. Just cleanly installed from Epic store, and the game just will not launch. If I launch from the Epic launcher, it does nothing. If I launch sins2.exe directly from the folder, I get "sins2.exe - Application Error: The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142). Click OK to close the application."
I've tried the whole array of compatibility options including Windows 8, Run as Admin, DPI changes and more, same issue.
Specs:

All drivers up to date as of last night.
Windows 11 23H2. Week ago it was latest beta Insider Preview, same issue was there, installed stable version, didn't help.
AMD Ryzen 5 3600Gigabyte X570 AORUS ELITE WIFI32 GB DDR 4NVIDIA RTX 3080 MSIAll drivers up to date.
Interestingly, I also have a Gigabyte AORUS Elite X570 motherboard. Weird coincidence?
Im sharing this info with the team, and there are no mods on either instance correct?
Nope, literally clean installed the game from Epic and it does this. Tried Verify too, no change.
Annoyingly, I did have about 7 hours in this game not long after it launched and it ran fine then (same PC). But stopped playing as I felt it was a bit of a step down from Sins 1 and I didn't enjoy it as much. Left it a while, formatting and reinstalling my PC in the interim. Decided to give it another go as I'm sure it's had updates since, and now it won't even start. The game conspires against me getting a worthy sequel to Sins 1
No mods either, did clean reinstall before posting the issue here.
wow, forum spam.
Not seeing an update here so assuming no fix, but wanted to report that I have the same issue. Standard install no Mods and not OC'ing system. The Sins II Testing Edition plays but no joy on the standard install.
System Info Below:
G.SKILL DDR5-6000 (64GB | 32GB Channel 1 & 3)
Quick video demo of what "doesn't" happen when I try to launch the standard game versus the Test edition of the game. My mic was giving me fits so used notepad to "talk" through results. 😁
that's really weird. This is not going to solve anything but just wondered if you watched task manager if it even showed up.
That's a great question, but I did do that a few times, just didn't do that for the video. Sadly it didn't even blip/show any activity in the running processes.
Can confirm, test version working, regular version does not. There is no active process, because game doesn't start, if launched from binary (sins2.exe), not from Epic Launcher, with administrator privileges you getting error.
The issue is still here, really hope it will be fixed for steam launch, otherwise I think it won't be possible to play with friends on steam version.
Still broken for me too. Just reinstalled it to check.
I've pretty much given up on this game now.
Hello folks, for those still having this issue, Id like to get more details and establish faster communication. If you are willing please add me on Discord as RammaStardock and reach out to me via DM so we can sort this out
Excellent. I'll do that 👍🏼
I'm also having this issue. Sent over that friend request, Ramma.
I stopped being able to run it in February. It updated today, and actually works again after a 6 month break. I guess while they were writing all that DLC they thought they would fix the main game at the same time.
I've got hundreds of games over in my Steam account and never had a problem like this with any of them.
After the 1.0 release, there's no issue. I can run it just fine.
Same for me. It works now after the big 4.5gb update.
Had Sins2 on Epic and it developed this issue. Reinstalled Windows and still have the same issue. Bought it again today on Steam and still have the same issue.
Was there a resolution to this?
Thank you
