For this blog post, I want to give our fans an update on what we’re working on for this summer. We recently announced that the Advent would be arriving for summer, but there’s a whole lot more that we have in store for everyone. I’ll start off with what everyone’s been clamoring for….
“The Advent, whose society is known collectively as “The Unity,” is a highly advanced pseudo-religious civilization that relies heavily on spiritualism, psychic prowess and cybernetic technologies. A sense of elitism permeates the Unity, and is most strongly expressed through the high value its members place on psionic ability.”
The Advent in War Year 35 are comprised of two factions:
Eager to continue their revenge against the TEC, the Advent Reckoning seek to assimilate any who survive into the society of the Unity. The Reckoning use their unique culture to mind control enemy ships, empower friendly vessels with every enemy ship captured, and to take vengeance on foes.
Suspecting that a corruptive influence within the Unity has influenced their race, the Advent Reformation seeks to purge this unseen enemy to restore the Unity to its proper path. The Reformation use the purified Unity to revive destroyed ships, sacrifice worlds to inflict terrible damage to adjacent planets, and rapidly augment their psionic strength the more casualties they take.
While the Advent are a big part of our summer update, we have much more in the pipeline for everyone to look forward to.
Players can expect a visual refresh on the game with new and improved environments, lighting, and race specific UI themes. You’ll also see large units - like capital ships, titans and starbases - take visible damage in combat.
We’re also adding two new planet types to Sins II along with a host of non-colonizable gravity well types like comets and wormholes.
All new voice-overs will be included in the summer update; in addition to new race-specific music that reacts to the action on-screen.
Many more maps will come with the summer update as well. Plus, we’d be terrible folks if we didn’t mention the pending modding tools and documentation that will help bring modders' creations to life. Keep an eye on the Sins II Wiki for more information as it’s available.
This is just a brief high-level overview of what’s coming to Sins of a Solar Empire II later this year. We look forward to sharing it with our loyal fans.
Ah, you are correct. It seems, they quietly removed that from its previous roadmaps.
On Discord they have stated that the Advent update will be in August
From what I heard, they are releasing the game sometime this summer...so probably at the very end of the summer we'll see the Advent at game release. Summer just started so I'm guessing a few months (September-ish?). They haven't done any more meaningful updates since the announcement so I suppose they are putting the finishing touches on it.
yar, I was really hoping for July but I get it. Third quarter so I would realistically expect the very last month/week of that, unless its pushed back again. A few of my friends are waiting and its getting hard telling them "not yet" lol. Dev tools though, that sounds really fun. I have not taken out my 3d studio for a spin for quite some time sense I have been working in Solid works as far a cad goes.
For the guys saying the game looks the same as the first. Well duh, its a sequel but the game itself runs VERY different form the original sins. For more units, it be hard to justify its reasons as well and they have done a good job giving a purpose to those units currently. It be nice if there was more customization but that's the problem right? When its good you always want more, lol.
Exactly my opinion. Even though there are no new races or anything like that, the game is already much better than Sins 1. Each faction has much more depth. Look at Starcraft, the developers have been working with the same races for decades without a new one being added. And the games are still very cool because the races have just evolved. Sins 2 does the same thing at the moment and in my opinion is a complete success so far. And the units looks great. The Vasari Starbase, for example, looks like a damn monster flying towards your ships, especially in green. And honestly, I would wait until next year. The developers shouldn't rush to release just because some fans can't wait. As long as you make a great end product out of it, I'll wait until the next millennium.
Sins 2 feels less like an evolution and more like a remaster. It refines the gameplay from the first Sins but doesn't add a ton of new stuff. In some cases, it even takes away (no abilities for frigates/cruisers, less capital ship choices). The refinement is fantastic though, but it doesn't really "feel" like a sequel and more like a reboot.
well, sins 2 is starting off where sins 1 ended, not sure if you played the first sins on its release and experienced its progress over the years/expansions. The devs already said they want to make more content/expansions after sins 2 release. Also the game of course looks like sins1 but it functions very different in many aspects vs 1 so to say its a remastered is not the case.
