Howdy, all...

Issue:
Player turn ends.
AI turns process smoothly.
Player turn begins: "Starting new turn".
Game hangs for as long as 10 minutes before play resumes.
When it happens:
Generally after turn 100 or so (though sometimes earlier)
Consistently when player completes research and is loading new tech choices.
Occasionally during non-research-complete turns.
It does not happen if a tech is completed mid-turn (inspire scientists, for example).
CPU/GPU/memory do not seem to be overly taxed during turn start.
SSD wiped and re-installed.
Quick bump to see if anyone else is experiencing this. Running newest build, smaller galaxies, fewer opponents, still happens.
I have noticed a hang time on the new tech selection screen also, generally lasting a few minutes by mid game. I don't recall this happening in pre 2.2x versions.
Sorry, the only hang I've ever noticed is 10-30 seconds after selecting new tech to research. I play largest size every setting, but only 8-10 AI civs. Try posting your rigs stats. Maybe that will prompt someone to take a closer look.
You might be on to it, it feels longer when there are more players.
I also noticed the splash screen on startup (galciv4/supernova) pauses for awhile now before starting the video.
It is starting to remind me, of how I would wait about 20 minutes for Close Assault, a ~32k-48k game to load from cassette tape in the early 1980's. Or the wait while Ultima II requested a 360k 5.25 floppy disk change and several long minutes load time because you moved to a different area of the map. How dare Stardock make me wait a couple minutes while the game setup happens .
What's odd is that at a certain point, it goes from 5-10 seconds to start a "new tech" turn to 5+ minutes.
The rig is older (i7 6700, GTX1080/8gb, 32gb), but holds up just fine with huge settings, 20+ civs up to turn 100 or so. Small map, low-res, 4 civs, not a hitch until somewhere around 90-110, suddenly stalls every new tech turn. Nowhere near max usage of CPU, GPU, or memory. Doesn't cause any other programs to lag when it stalls out either.
Amazing, that's basically the same setup I have. The only difference is I have an I7-7700 running @4.2 GHz. But we both have 4 cores and that's important because they game is multithreaded and will needs at least 4 cores to run smoothly. The GTX1080 may be old but it's still a very good video card. Like I said I do see a small lag (10-30 sec) when picking new research, but nothing like you are. Just as an experiment try playing huge map with only 8 AI civs and see what happens. No idea why a small map with only 4 ships should have issues, but I've never played that type of setting.
Barryo, could you send me a save of one of the related games, with your specs listed out for me one more time in a DM? Or you can link a save here via dropbox link
