Stardock Announces Fences 5
Now in Release Preview with Chameleon, Peek Toggle, and New Enterprise Functionality
Get into the Fences 5 Release Preview Now
Fences 5 is a major update to its popular Windows desktop organization software with over 20 million downloads. Fences solves the problem of a “messy desktop” by automatically organizing Windows desktop icons into shaded areas, creating a clutter-free and productive workspace.
Fences 5 introduces Chameleon™️ – a Windows desktop icon enhancement that blends your desktop icons into your wallpaper. Icons maintain their functionality but fade into the background to remain easily accessible without being a distraction.
Also new in Fences 5, it is now easier than ever to access your Fence groups by bringing them to the top with a single click. Building on the patented Peek™ functionality introduced in Fences 4, Fences 5 enables the ability to access your Fence groups from the taskbar by adding an icon to the taskbar to instantly access your desktop groups.
Fences is used by thousands of businesses, from Education to Government to Healthcare. To help these businesses deploy organized dashboards of desktop icons, Fences 5 for Business adds all-new tooling that makes it easier than ever to manage these deployments. With the new ability to easily import/export layouts for distribution, tooling to load configurations from a network drive during logon, and more, Fences sets the standard for enterprise desktop icon management.
"Fences 5 is designed to deliver a modern desktop experience," said Brad Sams, General Manager of Stardock Software. "Fences is the best way to organize your desktop and with Chameleon and Peek, we have built a modern workflow that provides you instant access to your content while reducing the distractions of the desktop.”
Along with its new features, Fences 5 delivers many other enhancements to the core Fences desktop engine that results in improved performance and enhanced capabilities.
Fences 5 is available today starting at $9.99 with Release Preview discounts available for a limited timeand it is also included in the award-winning Object Desktop suite.
If you have an active ObjectDesktop subscription then yes Fences 5 is included. You should find it listed in your downloads and your objectdesktop serial should activate it just fine.
It's not. I get the advertisement just fine, but it sure wants me to update to v4.22, which has been installed for quite a while.
The contents will wary depending on when the purchase was made.
*clicks update*
*checks version*
*shrug*
I am pretty sure I gave you a correct answer above, if you are willing to try.
You should also try to click the cogwheel on you Object Desktop manager and check if the desired options are selected.
That's what I already had set up. I showed you my step by step, after "update" screenshots. I don't know how what you're telling me is a correct answer, but whatever.
I dunno, dawg. The update to all the v4 stuff was a royal delayed pain, too.
All the marketing is clear as mud, and why on earth would I even be getting the "GO BUY VERSION 5" OPERATING SYSTEM popup crap on startup if I'm supposed to already have it? Even Microsoft doesn't harass me to upgrade the Windows 11 I'm told I should already have to Windows 11 for a special annual rate when I'm already supposed to be on Windows 11.
randyschad...untick and retick each of those options in reply #107 to be sure they're actually set.
A current OD Subscription should show "Fences 5" in the list below the version installed.
Example...I'm still on Windows 7 on this machine...so haven't seen an urgency to update the Fences ver on it...so I'm running 3.1.3.3 but Fences 5 is available in my list....
Great. There it is.
At this point, I should have just paid the $10.
So it's OK now?
oh wow, when you paste an image into an edit, you get base encoded stuff that takes up pages.. (removed image)
Fences 5 is included in the ObjectDesktop subscription. It actually came out last year. You only need the one subscription.
It sounds like ObjectDesktop manager is confused and isn't showing you Fences 5 because Fences 4 is installed.
If you visit https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products you should be able to download the Fences 5 installer and activate that using your ObjectDesktop subscription.
Neil is correct, you already have access to Fences 5 and can install it today as part of Object Desktop…sorry for the confusion!

Chameleon is NOT compatible with the popular Wallpaper Engine program. Forced to say with v4 unless/until this is fixed.
Seems to work fine with Chameleon off. But then what is the purpose of spending more money if it's not compatible? 😥It is pulling color from the underlying original wallpaper not the correct depth buffer.
How do I set Fences 4 to never check for upgrades. At this point version 4 does all I need so it is just an annoyance constantly asking me to upgrade and will lead me to stop using Stardock software completely.
Hello,Please refer to this guide. https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#disableupdate
Thank you.Basj,Stardock Community Assistant.
I asked some question in this post about licensing that seem really blurry for me. Yes it contain some disappointments and incomprehension. But you should help me to really understand things about your licences, your plans, the future of fences over the years and new feature of fences 5. Is fences 5 is only a DLC that bring Chameleon mode or it add others features (including performances improvement, etc). I don't freely bash your product. I just want to understand all things about your many licensingss optionss and for what I should pay for fences 5 ! If you want I buy it, please sell me your product a little bit please.
I still won't understand why I can't get answer about the different flavors of Fence licence. Please guive me clear answer about that.
I believe any newly released software is only guaranteed to last 1 year. After the year is up a new release may be released and a new purchase will need to be made unless you have a active subscription. But there is no guarantee of a product being released every single year and I don't think any plans are made more then one year out at a time.
I would have to say the most sensible choice to make in regards to Fences 5 is to have an object desktop subscription. Then you get what ever software Stardock decides to develop for during that year.
Absolutely, as MS can be counted on to change its OS.
Good morning.
I'm posting here because I don't know where to go.
Today, I was doing my mail (Outlook 2021) and some blockages appeared while consulting this mail and after a certain time, I had this window which appeared:
I would like to point out: I have been looking for the origin of the unexpected closure and blockages of my games: ATS and ETS for quite some time.
I thought for a while that Deskscape was at fault, but that's not true. It is Fences who is at fault.
THANKS.
See you.
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, would appreciate if you could translate that popup said.

Thank for your response, but that don't explain what is "permanant licence" and how "steam licences" work...
They should publish an OFFICIAL response that explain clearly what are difference of each licences flavor.
I still won't understand why they won't give me clear answer about that.
