Hello,
i've tried to activate a 2.0 Start11 with a key form my Start11 5-license pack, it said the key is invalid.
Does it means, that i have to buy again? If yes, this is new for the start products.

Reading the FAQ - we have to purchase Start11 again to get v2? That's pretty rude.
Hello,Sorry to hear you feel that way. But, do know, from what the Dev mentioned, that Start11 V1.x should still work normally now and up to V23H2 Refer here: https://forums.stardock.com/523496/get;3906834.
ThanksBasj,Stardock Community Assistant.
Also unless I'm mistaken (possible) v2 is basically a new version but still uses the Start11 name since it is still used for Windows 11. Stardock has always required a fee for major versions. Perhaps if they renamed it to Start12 it would have reduced the confusion on the update but likely would have caused confusion with the version naming scheme.
I think it would probably have created more confusion, i.e. is this for Windows 12? There's just no way to say Start11 Major New Version Release efficiently apart from Start11v.2.
That is what I meant. Either way it would be confused. One of those "Heads you win, tails I loose" scenarios. I think (personal pref only) just renaming it to Start then adding a version that doesn't need to follow the windows version would be better (again for me might not work for others). Something like Start v1,v2, .. You could even include the window version like Start v11.2, for win12 v12.1.
Again there's no perfect method so most likely just keeping the current scheme would produce the least amount of confusion. Either way most people will be able to see that v2 is a major departure from v1 with some v1 elements carrying over.
How long? We know, that after multiple Microsoft Win11 updates in the past the app was not only one time partially broken and required fixes. So honestly, i feel same. After some time everybody will be forced to update to 2 because else the app will work bad.
if there is no fair comprimise here for owners of v1 and multipacks, then i will look to get rid of it.
I see for the multipack also no upgrade offer.
Start 11 version 1 works well with the 23H2 update. The next big update from Microsoft will be none other then Windows 12 so Windows 11 changes are about to slow down big time.
Also since the versions are similar enough any fixes can just be plugged in as they will likely be the same
I kind of like the name Start11IsBack for version 2 😅
lol
I understand the multipack upgrade offer isn't ready until next week due to an issue.
However we may be able to do it manually for you. I will ask Brad Sams to DM you directly if you are interested in upgrading.
With regards to 1.x, I believe the plan is for another 1.x update with a couple of fixes to some things we found during 2.x dev.
The next Microsoft update is widely expected to be Windows 12 as 23H2 is out now so I personally am not expecting any changes in Win11 to impact Start11 significantly.
I bought a Start11 license at the end of august after 2 days trial. And now here comes V2, and if I want this update (yes, I will be happy to get these new features) I have to buy a full fresh license despite the fact I already bought one two months ago? No discount in sight for previous licensed users? Just some blabla about "Start11 V1.x should still work normally" (but BTW, let me guess, will you continue to update that V1.x version ..?).
All of this just give me a bitter taste in my mouth about Stardock policy and what consideration they have for their customers...
That is said.
I believe there is a discount. See here https://forums.stardock.com/523474/start11-v2-upgrade-faq
What a hell of a discount !!! Same price as I bought mine...
It may well be. Since I use an OD subscription I'm not familiar with the single item pricing. It is unfortunate since the timing of your purchase basically collides with the update timeframe. This of course can and does happen so I do understand the frustration however it isn't the norm. Ultimately of course the decision to buy a new key is up to you however if you decide to do so I'm fairly confident you won't need to for quite some time. v1 is a couple years old now and I'm sure v2 will likely last a long while.
Just bought it, but still think it's just like Microsoft asking for money to get 23h2...
I thought 23H2 would be a free update for 22H2 installs
Just install... It's beta version and (I'm french) almost not translate... A pity.
