Stardock Announces Start11 v2
New Start Menu Designs, Taskbar Enhancements and Enterprise Features Now in Release Preview
Stardock announced Start11 v2 and the release preview of the industry's most advanced Start menu, today. This program allows users to fully customize the Windows 10 and 11 Start menu experience with unique features, designs, and restore classic functionality from previous versions of Windows.
New with Start11 v2 are three new Start menu styles that seamlessly blend with Windows 10 and 11. Each new style is centered around a different theme: Apps, Professional, and Launcher, and are fully customizable from top to bottom.
Start11 v2 is also enhancing the taskbar with new functionality that makes it faster to access your files and folders. With this release, you can now pin a file or folder directly to the taskbar without having to open File Explorer. And if you want to build your own quick access menu, you can turn a folder into a popup menu for quick access to frequently used files directly from the taskbar.
"This is a significant update and ships with more than two dozen new features” said Brad Sams, General Manager of Stardock Software. “And we are also introducing new enterprise features as well, including the ability to load a Start menu configuration on login, kiosk functionality that lets you lock components of the Start menu, and improved tooling for advanced deployments.”
Also new with Start11 v2 is an updated search experience with native integration with the Everything search engine. Additionally, Start11 v2 introduces the ability to backup and restore your settings from a file, improved animations when navigating within the Start menus, tinting for a unified icon experience, options for removing folders from the ‘all apps list’, and many more.
Start11 v2 is available today for a discounted price of $5.99 (reg. $6.99) during the release preview period and is also included in the award-winning Object Desktop suite. For more information, visit the Start11 v2 website here.
In my opinion, start 11v2 is a smart move by stardock. Windows 11 has been catching up, the start menu is better and the taskbar is getting better. When hudson valley is released the task bar and start menu will only get better, so it is good that Stardock is staying ahead of the game. This is all a welcome change in strategy from what we saw with start 10; Microsoft may have had start 10 beat in terms of innovation. With start 11 Stardock has been on their game with lots of innovation that we have never seen before. Unfortunately with innovation there comes a higher price which is why version 2 came out as a paid upgrade. It was a lot of work to develop.
As for Start 12, it depends on what exactly we are going to get from Hudson valley. Hudson Valley which will be released next year and may be Windows 12 or it may still be windows 11. It may have a new taskbar or the new taskbar may be scrapped. This unknown has to be really hard for a company like stardock to maneuver because it is not even known if start 12 needs to be developed at all yet. But if it does, it will likely be another paid upgrade... And if it is I do expect Stardock to try and stay ahead of Microsoft on it with even more innovations.
Help! I am trying to use Start11, latest version, 30 day free. Specifics:
Have new Win10. Want to be like Win7. Taskbar on both is vertical on left side and I can control width.
Win7: Icons only, no text, and number of icons placed horizontally increases as I widen bar.
Win10: Only ONE app horizontally, no text when not selected, includes vertical line and text when selected.
Questions:
1. How to get 10 like 7?
2. How and when do I see success (only after restart of OS, or ...)?
Hello,If you on Windows 10, than vertical taskbar should not be an issue, you can hide text with Windows taskbar setting at Combine taskbar buttons to "Always, hide label". Effect of change should be immediately.
ThanksBasj,Stardock Community Assistant.
Basj, thank you. Using your suggestion, "Always, hide label" helped.
However, I still have Only ONE app horizontally, and would like that option.
Thanks again, Keith
Yes, more than one app button horizontally is not possible.
Thank you,
Basj,Stardock Community Assistant
Bonjour, j'achète depuis des années Object Desktop et en fait je n'utilise que Start11 et Fence. Je dois conclure que, malgré qu'il soit indiqué que cette version V2 est incluse avec le package je dois encore payer un supplément pour cette version précise ?

Hello, I have been buying Object Desktop for years and in fact I only use Start11 and Fence. I must conclude that, despite it being indicated that this V2 version is included with the package I still have to pay extra for this specific version?
It depends on when you purchased your Object Desktop. If before October 2023, I believe you are not entitled to Start11v2. I could be wrong, though.
Start11 v2 IS included in your Object Desktop subscription assuming it is current.
There is a small issue with ObjectDesktop Manager which may cause it to get confused when Start11 v1 is installed.
If you go to https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products You should be able download the 2.05 installer and once installed should make things happy again.

Je viens de télécharger et installer la version du lien que vous m'avez proposé et il continue à me proposer de payer.
I got that same, exact message when I upgraded my Start11 to version 1.5 today. Although I am using Windows 10 and really have no need for the product, I thought it would still be a free upgrade with my subscription. I just extended my subscription the other day (Jan 27th, 2024), so I thought the message was somewhat strange.
It seems ODM is not handling this right. V2 would be free if you have an active object desktop subscription.
If you install v2 from the store downloads you should be OK, or uninstall 1.5 and it will then let you install v2.
I have the Start11 Multi-Device update.
Do I have to pay again to get version 2 that has been released today on Steam?
Or can I upgrade for free?
I just upgraded to Start11V2 so that I could use tabs in my start menu. My PC runs Windows 11, I have been using the Stardock Windows 10 Start Menu option, and have 10 groups of items. I tried to change my start menu to the new Windows Pro to use tabs, and only four of my groups show up. Why can I not see the other 6 groups? Do I have to go in and create all new groups on blank tabs?????? Where did my groups go?
Start11 maintains groups for Win10 and Win11/Pro/App/Launcher style separately because Windows 10 has different rules to the others (such as 6/8 items wide, groups side by side etc) and entirely different painting styles. The Win11 etc styles all share the same groups as they share the same rules.
So unfortunately groups would need to be recreated.
You can use tabs with the Win10 style too BTW if that helps.
thanks for the reply. On Win 10, if I right-click on a blank area and select "New," Tab is greyed out. Cannot get tabs with Win 10.
oops - I can get tabs with Win 10 menu style. It depends upon WHERE one right clicks. I have to click inside one of the groups, but not on an icon. There really should be better directions on your web site and menu style selection window. This is crazy having to figure all this out trial and error style.
Hello, I have recovered and installed the latest version but for me who currently do not have time to devote to it it is a real disaster. All my previous configuration has disappeared, I can no longer find my previous layout, I see absolutely nothing as an improvement compared to the previous version and even worse each time I start my PC it amounts to restarting the Start11v2 configuration that I have to close systematically and whatever changes I try to make (blindly since no visible doc) in any case the next startup it goes back to the previous configuration. How to go back to the version before v2 for now while everything stabilizes. I have searched carefully on your site but it is clearly oriented to bring everyone to this version and I cannot find, despite my searches, a page which would allow you to recover the old versions. Does this exist on your site? THANKS
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. Try this, uninstall Start11, reboot immediately after uninstall finished. Re-download, Start11 v1 or Start11 v2 from your produce account page: https://store.stardock.com/myaccount/products. Install it. Reboot again after the installation finished. Retest it and report back here.
I bought the first app because Stardock promised to add live tile support later.
It didn't. And there isn't in this second version.
For me it is a scam and I am not angry about the price but about the lie.
I will never use either of them again. I regret even contributing a small amount to the language support.
I will use ExporerPatcher in the future. At least it can display live tiles.
Who promised live tile support and where?
I am not aware of anyone ever suggesting such a thing.
A few people have asked for Live Tile support over time, but Stardock never said they would implement them in Start11v1 or v2.
Microsoft dropped support for live tiles in 2021, and very few developers still support them.
It was promised when the app was launched. As I have not saved the web page , I cannot prove it.
Anyway.
I am no longer interested in the subject.
It was one of many applications I tried and it didn't work.
I say goodbye.
(I just couldn't figure out how to close my account.)
I do not believe anyone from Stardock suggested such a thing.
We did probably say we could add in support for tile images which we did in v1 and can be enabled in advanced settings but not live tiles as that's a lot of extra work for very little benefit given they are obsolete now.
May you be right.
If it's better.
But I bought it specifically for this reason.
