Was enjoying a nice game of Sins 2 and found a button that said "Toggle shuttle" pressed it 10 seconds later whole fleet was gone. Not sure why we need this?
It's "Toggle Scuttle" as opposed to "Shuttle". Scuttle means:
"verb (used with object) to sink (a vessel) deliberately"
It's a toggle because you can turn it off if you change your mind. We hid it in the unit advanced menu so people wouldn't press it by mistake very easily.
The reason we need this is because players often want to free up supply to recompose their fleet to better counter their enemies. The alternative of suiciding them against enemy units only feeds the enemy valuable experience.
It's a shame there isn't an option to decommission ships at shipyards or something to recover some of the resources. I always feel bad blowing them up since you never see the crew leaving...
"When in a gravity well with x buildings, recover x% of the build cost" might be nice?
That sounds like an interesting compromise, what other suggestions do you have for something like this?
Now I have understanding, thank you. I see why it would be there I do agree with somehow recouping some cost either through salvaging upgrades or an new upgrade.
Another option is just a plain refund at scuttling, which was present in Sins 1. Maybe then a plus modifier with a repair bay/component shop/(frigate) factory present. That would be in the same style as current component (item) building.
I've noticed an unbalance of the game by pirates attacking to strongly.
I'd have an ability on shipyards (maybe unlockable?) which would disable/pause ship building while it deconstructs a selected ship, that way you have to balance building vs deconstruction. Not sure if you'd want to micro it on every ship - I wonder if there would be a way to multi-select ships in range, or order them to queue up for deconstruction... This would encourage having more worlds with shipyards to deconstruct ships, as in my playthoughts I don't build many shipyards at all.
Have the refunded resources be a % of the ship's initial value, which is further reduced by the % of the ship's health (so it can't be exploited as a way of getting around repairing ships by deconstruct > build new ones).
I find great use of scuttle. Say, for example, once research is all completed.... blow the up research stations and make something more useful.
Also, if I have ships I do not need its a lot faster than sending them off to fight a losing battle.
if you blow up all research stations you lose access to any completed research, eg new ships etc. Unless that changed in the last patch or 2.
That has not happened to me. Once I have researched the "tier 4" I am able to scuttle all the stations necessary to get me there.
I can still build titans, etc. But I have not checked this in the past (2) days.
This is just false. As long as you researched the Tier, you're good.
I do think the research is slower if you delete stations, but I'm not entirely sure.
Excess stations makes research go faster. Less stations means it goes slower.
