I have noticed in the video releases that weapon impacts do not have any visible effect on the ships.
It almost looks like every ship is brand new, with no visible damage or it is exploded.
It seems to me that ships should have some visible damage on their surface that accumulates once any shields are down, and the hull starts taking damage.
Additionally, It would add to the realism if there was some rocking / jarring etc of the ships taking damage if the ship taking damage is zoomed close enough to make it visible.
I am super excited about Sins of a Solar Empire II!
That's definitely something I would like to see but I would take it a step further. In addition to cosmetic damage, ships should lose effectiveness when taking hull damage. It should be somewhat random in nature and the more damage taken, the less effective the ship becomes.
Penalties could include things like slower weapon fire rates, slower movement, slower passive regeneration and longer ability cooldowns.
That would make a really great improvement as well (if it was optional).
The only reason I say optional is that I might want to turn the option for random damage to be turned off.
I really like these ideas! They had damage animations/effects in SOASE 1 so I'm sure they'll add them to this game. At least I really hope they do.
I think reducing the damage output of damaged ships is quite immersive and unique for this style of RTS, but it's gonna seriously mess with the balance of the game. I'm not sure if it's worth the hassle.
