I downloaded and installed the latest version last week sometime (4.21)....but I keep getting the Reminder Pop Ups. Is there no way to stop this? It's annoying
Thanks
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, need to know reminder pop up from Fences itself or from Object Desktop manager? If Object Desktop manager you can turn off update check in its setting. refer screenshot below.
If its from Fences itself, you can use this guide to disable update check: https://forums.stardock.com/486084/fences-support-faq#disableupdate
ThanksBasj,Stardock Community Assistant.
Thanks...it's a Fences specific one...I will try the link you suggest in your message.
Sorry....I think you misunderstood the issue. I've looked at the FAQ you sent a link to and it talks about disabling Fences Updates. I don't want to do that as I need to know when there is a newer version to upgrade to but once I have done that I don't want to see popups reminding me to do something I've already done.
Other software vendors seem to be able to handle this and only remind you when the installed version doesn't match the latest version.
Please check if Fences 4 detected you're already up to date. Click the "Check for updates" button and see if the "Your copy of Fences is up to date" come up. Report back.
Thank you,
Basj,Stardock Community Assistant
I have the same issue - every ~2 days an update message though there is no new version other the installed one. The manual update check says my fences is up to date. Please fix this bug which I already had on Fences 3...
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. But, you on Fences 3 or Fences 4?
Iam on fences 4
Hello,I have forwarded your problem/question to Stardock Support Team for their assistance. Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates. We appreciate your feedback and patience.
Can you send a screen shot of the update notification, a shot of the About tab in the Fences configuration, and a shot of the details tab of the Fences.exe properties?
(Browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Stardock\Fences, right click on Fences.exe select properties and then click on the details tab)

The shot for the update notification follows as soon as it appears again...
Today it appeared again... I already tried to let the update continue and reinstall the same version again. Doesn't help
And it won't as this is a long time known bug.
Yes, strange that such a simple function like comparing two numbers or strings doesn't get fixed. But maybe no one has reported yet... So please Stardock, its your turn now
Hey Stardock - any news about this bug?? Still annoying me everyday to update Fences.
Hello sott71,
Just to reconfirm, you are not using Object Desktop manager, yes?
And, have you ever tried purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link].? If not yet, Please try it. Just make sure to re-download the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.
Also, did you by any chance ever install Fences in another directory, other than the default directory assign by Fences when you install Fences?
Thank you,Basj,Stardock Community Assistant.
...
Yes, thats right - no ODM.

I've done this some time ago on Fences3 and it helps to get rid of the update messages, but after some regular updates it happens again. I have always installed to the default path the installer said. Meanwhile I am on a complete new machine with latest Win10.
I don't want to de- and reinstall my payed software every 2 month . This is a bug on Stardocks end. Annoying your customers with an de/reinstall procedure is a bad solution. Please report this to your software devs, so that they fix the code and show some real support! Thx!
Please try these suggestion: https://forums.stardock.com/514136/get;3899734
You're kidding me, right...?
Each time the same topic - reinstall this, reboot, make screenshots or better a video... This won't fix the bug! It pause it only!
I think this is the type of support Stardock choose as so much other choose too - be friendly, and ask users for describing things, making shots until they user give up and accept the bugs.
Stardock deserve 1 Star for support. And you lost a customer!
Sorry if you feel that way, I am trying to help you. Suggestion that I did, usually just to iron out typical Fences issue that work on 90% of users issue. And, the last link I posted was to a suggestion from Stardock Support on very similar issue. As for bug, it is known there is a bug with ODM installed. But, you said you do not have ODM installed. So it is very different issue. If its actually a bug on Fences we should have report from everyone that use Fences which will be a lot more than a few.
Moving forward, if you still wish for our help. Do let us know. I, howaver, have forwarded your problem/question again to Stardock Support Team for their assistance. We appreciate your feedback and patience.
Hello,
Sorry to hear you are having trouble.
scott71, c242, you will be dealing with me and me only going forward on this issue until it is resolved.
Scott, please let me know if you are willing to move your issue to the thread provided and attempt that support option. If not, please also let me know.

I would really like to help to solve the problems with OD Manager. There are some more quirks in there. And I like to have one tool to manage all Stardock apps. Until You tell me it will be abandoned in the near future. Then it is a pity but wasted time of course.

Thx Sean.
I probably can fix the issue by myself in ~10 minutes with de/reinstall, as I've done a year ago in Fences3 . But as I said, the bug will probably occur again after some updates. The thread you linked looks like a fast solution as all others and it will not find the root cause. Tell me you are interested to find the root cause and I will help. I am out, if you want to let me reinstall Fences or deleting complete folders.
Regards Sascha
But that is not the issue here and the causes for them would be completely different.
sott71, if I did not want to find the root cause for the very very few that have seen this, it would mean I am ok with my staff being accused of rendering '1 star support'. I am not nor are they. However, this in-app update issue (not to be confused with ODM update issue) is extremely rare and almost always resolved (forever) with what they have asked you to do.
That said, while you may not see the method to the madness, how we attack this going forward will be my prerogative. I have a theory on why it's happening and what you have been asked to do in the other post will help confirm it either way (should you not see the prompt again). Again, if this is not going to work for you, please let me know.
Either way, I appreciate the feedback and time.
