I am trying the 1.4.6 Beta to see if my issue was fixed and it is not. I am using the Start Menu > Configuration > Shortcut list area and created a "Quick Launch" that is set to "Display as a menu". I have it displaying at the bottom so it is right above the Start Menu itself.
The problem is that when I choose that Quick Launch item at all (just to look at everything I have listed or to launch something from a shortcut contained within my Quick Launch folder) as soon as I click away or launch something explorer.exe must restart. Most things on the desktop disappear along with the Taskbar (freaked me out the first time I tried it) and any explorers I have open are closed (that is the most annoying part since I lost whatever I had open).
When I reported this in the 1.4.5 thread someone asked if I was using Dragon or anything like that and I am not. I am using ExplorerPatcher to get my Quick Launch area back and I use Grammarly and AutoHotKey. Those are the only non-standard things I can think of that I'm running, but there could be others.
Is there any other information I can give you to track this down and hopefully get it fixed?
I would love to stop using the other method for getting Quick Launch back (ExplorerPatcher) since it is limiting a few other things that I use, but right now I can't have my explorer disappear each time I touch my Quick Launch area. I really, really hope you can fix this and it wasn't done this way on purpose.
Unless I am not understanding your scenario correctly, I am almost certain that the issue is the incompatibility between Start11 and Explorer Patcher.
My both bugs are fixed with 1.4.6! Thank you!
- Fix for problems with apps that quickly update the taskbar progress bar and block the taskbar for some time.
- Fixed a problem with the taskbar shifting upwards when using non-standard scaling factors (like 140%)
I did uninstalled ExplorerPatcher first with the 1.4.5 revision and there wasn't any difference.
I just uninstalled it again and with this version it is slightly better. This time if I choose the Quick Launch area and then click away from it nothing happens (which is good - before it used to restart explorer.exe). The problem is if I choose to launch something from within that menu structure explorer.exe restarts and my taskbar and everything goes away.

The trigger is Grammarly. If you remove that I suspect everything will work correctly.
Thank you so much for implementing this! This was one of my biggest annoyances and I reported it a month or so back, glad you guys are constantly improving Start11 and listening to your customers! cheers!
You nailed it! I disabled Grammarly no more restarting explorer.exe when that isn't running and I use the Quick Launch menu. Unfortunately I can't work without Grammarly, so I have to figure out if I can live with the restarting explorer.exe or if I go back to ExplorerPatcher (with its bugs).
Any chance this is fixable in a future version?
We have tried, multiple ppl and PCs, but could not reproduce it.
Try a total uninstall of Start11 and reinstall with this build, please.

Since I'm still in the trial period and don't have access to 1.46, I can't test myself...So I would like to ask if the handling of virtual desktops is changed.

I'm working on the uninstall (tried it without killing my settings and the problem persists). Is there a way I can save my settings off to the side so I can try this just to see if the full uninstall/reinstall fixes the problem and maybe not have to rebuild my whole tile start menu?
Also, I did a bit more testing and depending on what I click from my Quick Launch folder I get different interactions. If I launch an excel file right from the main level there the first time I try it the explorer restart happens and the file is not opened. If I then try again it just opens the file (no explorer restart this time).
Then I tried to launch a Visual Basic (yes, we're still programming in a really old language) project from a sub-menu within the Quick Launch folder and no matter how many times I tried it just did the explorer restart and never launched VB.
All, Start11 1.46 was released today.
As always, thanks for your feedback and support for the beta.
