Explorer should already have the + button by default. Notepad likewise and Word and Excel I think
Did you perhaps in the past disable that on explorer? If you open the groupy menu on an explorer window and open the personalize tab submenu you can enable it to always show tabs for this type of window. If that were to be disabled there is an option to always show the new tab button.

i do see within the groupy menu the option youre referring to "always show tabs for this kind of window" are you saying that should be enabled by default? as it is not for neither explorer nor notepad. that being said, it does show tabs, just not the +/new tab button at the end of the tab itself leaving me no way to open a new tab basically.i couldnt have disabled it in the past as this is my first time installing groupy on this windows install, not to mention ive deleted the entire groupy registry key a few times to purge settings while getting my bearings with it (which it recreates once you start it again)if it is supposed to be enabled by default then i think theres a bug in the build. otherwise, i'll simply enable it manually and carry on.
AH! Thanks. How'd I miss that?
okay, so here's where i'm at. just so im clear.groupy disabled > notepad and explorer have the built in + to add new tabs button.groupy enabled > notepad and explorer have no + to add new tabs button.I can toggle groupy on and watch them disappear.terminal still has it but terminal is also lacking the little groupy menu button in the top left so i assume you guys handle that one differently which makes it irrelevant for this discussion.also worth noting when toggling groupy back on it will close and crash explorer but not notepadi do see within the groupy menu the option youre referring to "always show tabs for this kind of window" are you saying that should be enabled by default? as it is not for neither explorer nor notepad. that being said, it does show tabs, just not the +/new tab button at the end of the tab itself leaving me no way to open a new tab basically.i couldnt have disabled it in the past as this is my first time installing groupy on this windows install, not to mention ive deleted the entire groupy registry key a few times to purge settings while getting my bearings with it (which it recreates once you start it again)if it is supposed to be enabled by default then i think theres a bug in the build. otherwise, i'll simply enable it manually and carry on.
Thanks for the bug report. It looks like if you have never had Groupy on a machine before it isn't setting that up right.
As a fix right click on the groupy tab bar, pick the personalize tab submenu and tick the option to always show the add button. That should be an option if you have not enabled the option to force all tabs on globally in the config.
An update to Groupy will resolve this defaults issue, thanks for letting us know.
ok neil, thanks for clarifying. will the groupy update be retroactive and apply to everything its supposed to? i've enabled the add tab button in explorer and notepad for now, but you said it should be present out of the box for word and excel as well? just checking for anything in the future post fix, or since ive already installed groupy "pre" fix i'll have to manage all that manually?
The update will write the keys out for you too.
Okay, one more for ya neil. I assume this is probably due to them being identified as the same under the surface (windowclass or something) but figured id mention it juuuuust in case.so with groupy disabled, as we all know by now, things like explorer and terminal have tabs baked into windows. What does not is control panel > all control panel items > programs and features.enabling groupy without any auto groups defined seems to enable tabs for this window. I did notice that toggling show add tab button on explorer will also toggle the tab on the programs and features window so I suppose theyre seen as the same and its just gonna be one of those "comes with the territory" things?
Assuming you are on Win11 thats an obsolete part of Windows. But yes if it is in explorer it will be treated the same.
Feature request Groupy/Start 11: Add "Saved Groups" to Standard Places or Links (or direct link on first level) for customized right pane of Start 11.
Is there a workaround for this issue above that I posted? ^^
I really like the new version but if it messes with Notepad the way it opens files in tabs instead of new windows that becomes problematic. I might try again installing and reboot when done as I did not do that last time and toggle the setting in Notepad.
There is not but the reg keys are the same so it 'should' work.I am a little confused by this:
Meaning, it was not doing the paint issue you reported here, but did get funky after you did the uninstall of G1 \ install of G2?Sean DrohanStardock Product Lifecycle Manager

Okay. After extensive testing and multiple installations for Groupy2 over Groupy1.5, purges, and multiple installations of Groupy2, here are my findings;
1) With the installations of Groupy2 over Groupy1.5, Groupy respects "AlwaysPaintSingleTab" set to "1" and displays the tab on single windows consistantly.
2) With the installations of Groupy2 over Groupy1.5, the taskbar thumbnails behave as referred to in Reply #20 (I have included the link to the video from Reply #32
https://1drv.ms/v/s!AlPnZU3br_UOh-Fs3EZihLCxYT_CJA?e=qsuRUC
3) With the installations of Groupy2 following a purge, Groupy does not respect "AlwaysPaintSingleTab" set to "1" and does not display tabs until a second window is opened.
4) With the installations of Groupy2 following a purge, the taskbar thumbnails behave as referred to in Reply #20
Sean, I have PM'd you with the registry settings for Groupy after the installation of Groupy2 over Groupy1.5, and the registry settings following the purge and fresh installation of Groupy2.

Is there a particular reason why you have opted to keep the native tabs for explorer and notepad rather than allowing Groupy to replace them?
That said it should not be interfering with that when replacement is disabled so we will look into that.
No reason and I can test things again.
I finally figured this one out. By right clicking on a tab and then putting a check by "Always show tabs for this type of window" in the "Personalize Tab" section, then tabs are shown on single windows for that app.
I think it is a confusion over what the paint single tabs option does. It means if the window has a single tab (and is set to allow that for that app) then do not paint a tab image when integrated into the title bar. Purely a visual change.
This is the same as in Groupy 1.
i have a question: why steam users didin't have discounted upgrade price?. i own Groupy v1 btw
"Save this Accent colour as default for this application" is not working.
When I already have an accent applied to a tab, let's say chrome, and then I right-click the groupy tab and pick this option, it removes the accent color. And then nothing else happens.
It's like that option's only effect was to remove the accent color.
Just a heads up... I've noticed some apps can't 'Save this Accent color as default for this application'. Currently Microsoft To Do and Xbox app.
Another person reported 'WhatsApp' has the same issue.
Tried installing Groupy2 from Object Desktop and got the attached errors, even after deleting the download and rebooting.
Downloading it from my individual download list worked.
The "Show preview thumbnails of inactive tabs on mouseover" doesn't work for me on Groupy2. It worked on Groupy1.5, but doesn't seem to work with any of the configurations in the settings I have tried.
This issue might have something to do with the new way Windows 11 treats open window thumbnails in the taskbar versus how Windows 10 works. As I have said, This issue persists with a clean boot of only MS services and Groupy2 services.
This is not a deal breaker, since I rarely go to the taskbar to switch windows, but still annoying.
The configuration app window always opens to the same position and size regardless of position and size changes made to the window. I use a 40" monitor and it would be nice to save the location and size in order to see the entire config. page without having to scroll.
Also, scrolling through the configuration app causes settings to change unintentionally because the pull-down menus change by using the scroll wheel on the mouse, so if you're scrolling the window with the mouse cursor over the middle of the window and scroll over a pull-down menu, it changes the setting. I am always doing this in Start11 and changing the shortcut icon size.
These are not big deals, but annoyances.
My taskbar is stuck everytime Hyper-V Manager is envolved. Have to restart explorer from task-manager.Insider Build here (I know).
I have problems with saving and loading groups. When I save Acrobat windows as a group, Groupy doesn't load a group like that. With Word, it loads a group fine, but it preserves the original sequence of files in the group: if I change the sequence, and overwrite the group, it doesn't get saved.
Also, please redesign Groupy icon to match Win 11 style.
Otherwise, great app, thanks for that!
