I literally didn't even know this had released anywhere. i see in on a website mentioned as being out and go, huh? How'd I miss it? Oh, Stardock in its infinite wisdom released it on Epic Games only -- that explains it. Don't use Epic, don't even know anyone who can tolerate it. I've owned almost all the stardock games from the beginning of the company -- I guess they don't want my money, releasing it on Epic only. Plenty of other games out there. Never thought they'd be dumb enough to piss off long-time players by releasing on a crap platform exclusively. If that's how they want to play the game, that's fine. I shall return the favor by making GalCiv 4 the first GalCiv title I don't buy. Their choice. Had they released it on Steam at the same time, GalCiv is one of the few titles I'd have paid full price for. Now, I might pick it up in a few years, once it's out elsewhere, but only on a very good sale price. Again, Epic, seriously? Thumbs Down, Stardock. Exclusive release on Epic = automatic never/very very steep sale much later on buy.
Same. I refuse to install another game library launcher just to play a game. Shame, but oh well.
Don't be so dramatic, just install Playnite and have it kill the launcher processes after exiting a game. It's so trivial anymore.
No thanks.
No thanks indeed.
I am holding out for the Steam Release. And if that doesn't happen anytime soon, then well....I am still having tons of fun with Galciv 3.
Belittling the issue or closing your eyes to it doesn't make it go away.
Not all signs point to the fact that the exclusivity deal has hurt sales in such a way, that there simply isn't funds available to give this game the same kind of support, that Stardock is otherwise known for. Now, granted....I have to take other people's words for that. But this review, for instance, isn't really what is normal for almost 1 year after release of a Stardock game:

The poster of this video said his concerns were not addressed, not those of the beta testers as a whole.
This poster was very active on Discord where the Developers were present constantly.
His concerns were listened to and commented on. As were mine and others.
I am not saying that he raised concerns that were not economical or possible to code in, but many posters "wants/concerns" were, including my wanting a map editor.
As for not putting effort into this game like others, you may have heard of a little concern called Covid 19.
Not being able to meet face to face can and did have it's effect on the months since release.
Bottom line the video's posters has some good points many of which the Devs and even Stardock CEO agree with and have stated so elsewhere on this forum and Discord.
As someone who works in IT, I can easily say that Covid-19 is not an excuse at all. In fact, most development shops saw an increase in productivity during Covid-19 as developers spent less time in useless tasks.
Aye, COVID-19 only slowed things down in the begining but as the company I worked for discovered they cut costs down as they no longer needed the space to house us. They also cut energy usage costs etc.... In the other areas they went all in for Microsoft Teams and sending laptops out to all the developers.Honestly my productivity went way up!Back to GC IV, I have not purchased it. Yes I have an EPIC account but it was forced on me and not by choice meaning I got keys for EPIC (that were free) from buying things like a video card.I have no intention of buying GC IV on EPIC and have been waiting for it to come on Steam. I was a founder for GC III and paid that huge up-front costs before it was ever released. I also had GC II and GC I.My gut tells me it is coming to Steam soon and most likely around April this year. The price on EPIC for the game just went down from $49.99 to $39.99 which my guess is to pull in buyers just before it goes live on Steam.I think the one thing Stardock forgot here is what made GC III so HUGE! Which was the Steam Workshop. I can honestly say, I was using it right from the beginning and pulling in new races (like all the Star Trek ones) etc....The simplicity of Steam Workshop is just not their on EPIC.Steam may charge more but they provide so much more which then increases the SHELF LIFE of the game.
Regarding the GC4 workshop. It's actually a lot easier to use and access within the game itself. You can access it directly within the game and download player made custom ships and custom civilizations.
There are guidelines for using the GC4 workshop posted on the GC4 forums under Modding Forums which I encourage you to read before using the workshop should you change your mind and purchase the game from Epic Games.
Thanks 👍

And now that the game IS underway on Steam, I wil of course be more than happy to buy it. Looking forward to it even.
Should have been available there from the get go of course. Hope Stardock have learned their lesson on this one!
