Title, is there going to be a Steam release / pre-order available? I've refused to use epic (and uplay / origin) in any way shape or form since its conception.
Right there with you. Love Sins, but won't buy on Epic.
WILL SINS OF A SOLAR EMPIRE II BE ON STEAM OR OTHER PLATFORMS?
We would love to have Sins of a Solar Empire II on as many platforms as possible; right now, we are focused on delivering the best game possible on Epic.
See you all in 2 years.
yep probably sold out to epic so they wont release on steam for quite some time
damn...when i got the notification i was actually excited... until i learned it is another potential interesting game down the epic drain.... well, guess you guys are part in the don't preorder games training program... thanks i guess. we'll see if the game is worth whatever you ask when/if it is coming to steam. until then, cya.
Guess I'll never be playing this. I make it a point not to buy games that have an exclusivity period with Epic. Such a trash company making trash moves to hurt gamers and pad their pockets.
I've played every single Stardock game ever made. It is sad to end it on this. Was nice knowing you Stardock.
If the Sins 2 will be released on Steam of other platforms. Will there be crossplay between Steam and Epic client?
I hate to say it as I was stoked to find out that there is going to be a Sins of a Solar Empire 2, but now that I have found out that it is an epic exclusive, I have lost all desire to even look at the game until it is on another storefront.
I am not even sure if I will buy it without a sale now, as by the time it is available, I don't know if I will be able to muster the enthusiasm I previously had.
My fire and excitement for this just smoldered out....Ill be back when its on Steam..
Nooooooooooooo! Please say it aint so! I have been a die hard fan for so long. My love for your games is ALMOST enough to overcome my hatred for Epic . Almost.. This is absolutely heartbreaking.
You must be lying. This is not the first Stardock game to have Epic exclusivity.
Right there except I want a GOG edition. Tired of the bugs that come with connection software like Epic/Steam. I know it's all to DRM protect against hacks and thievery buuut... I live with mountain dish internet and work used to have good internet until some darn temp did something sketch and now the company went on lockdown. So yeah, I want my games downloaded and access-able at any time.
Well that sucks. Guess we'll have plenty of time to see if it sucks or not while it languishes on Epic's garbage storefront. Shocked those guys still have the cash to buy up exclusives... must be all the Fortnite kiddies.
Being able to use their multiplayer services has been great for Stardock in the past. I guess I will never wrap my head around the Epic hate.
No real problem with Epic, but I love Steam. I need as few content launchers in my life as possible. I personally will wait for a Steam launch. It sucks because I was super excited when I heard Sins2 was coming. I've bought at least 10 copies of the other 2 games. These exclusivity agreements suck for the players. I hope this doesn't reflect their development philosophy.
You do you, but I fully disagree with the last sentence. Why does it suck for players? The game will have more money spent on it, which likely equals a better game. I feel like wanting it as much as people do on Steam is exactly the same as not wanting it on Epic, monopolistic and illogical.
I want it on every platform, and I see no benefit to players to lock it to a specific platform.Exclusivity agreements artificially limit access to a product. For some players yeah it's as simple as "Epic bad", but for me it's a bit more complicated. I'm a Linux gamer. Steam/Valve has spent a lot of time and money creating gaming options for Linux users. While I can install epic and run games from it. It's extra time and effort to support a company (epic) that has put no effort into their product for me and gamers like me ( There's dozens of us! ). Sins2 seems to be launching on Epic exclusively. The only reason I can think of is revenue, and that's perfectly understandable, and good for them as a company. But It's definitely bad for players like me. I am still excited to pick it up on Steam if it makes it there.Side note: the original games run amazingly on Linux.
Oof what a disapointment! Fingers crossed for a quick release on Steam.
I was initially was going to skip also, but really love Stardock games so decided to go ahead and support them with it on Epic. (Replaying Demigod right now )
To the Stardock team - I think you missed the boat on this (unless your getting a big premium from Epic for the exclusivity) Doing an extended beta like this I think would have been a much better start via Kickstarter or Indigo . That way you can get even more funding (higher price packages for us Sin's nerds to go for) and dont have to worry about the distribution platform issues as much.
I’ll be waiting for Steam. No interest in Epic at all. Too bad. I’d love to support development.
Is there an official response to this question? I love the publisher, and I loved the first sins, but I do not want to fragment my game library.
They probably don't know about G4 a lot of people don't . . .
This is laughable. I login to your forums with Steam authentication. Played EVERY Sins/Civ space opera you ever made with countless hours and now you are forcing Epic?
EPIC FAIL
370 hrs on SoaSE on Steam.
Epic is a hard no for me, sorry. I get that you felt you had to do this and that the decision is final but man.
Absolutely heartbroken.
Its simple and down to the way the platforms do their competition. Steam competes with other platforms by adding features and building a community and trying to attract a player base. It does this with its forums, elaborate chat and streaming system, built in guides, mods, etc. Steam is not just a store for games but a social platform and it is popular because of this reason. In short, steam is popular because players like using steam. Competing with steam would entail a new platform trying to compete with features that make players like it more than steam. This would cause steam to need to respond with new features to try and retain its players.
This sort of competition is good for players, because it results in a better player experience.
Epic on the other hand does not compete for players, it competes for games through exclusivity deals. It forces players who want to play the games it secures to use its platform, which due to its method of competition being the above, does not have features players enjoy on steam, or things like that, or novel alternatives. Its just a bad platform whose only asset is the exclusivity deals.
If steam were to compete with epic in this way, steam would need to spend money on exclusivity deals, which means less money spent on developing and maintaining the kinds of features that attract players to steam in the first place. This kind of competition in the long run actively harms the experience of video games overall, for all games and all players everywhere.
Epic claims its too hard to compete with this. They basically say steam is a monopoly because 'its too hard to make a competing product'. They argue that the only way they can compete is by buying exclusivity rights... which is a literal monopoly on the game. They are saying steam is bad for making a nice platform players want to use and they are being righteous for buying temporary monopoly. Steam does not have exclusivity deals. Games that are only available on steam are this way only because the developers/publishers dont want to sell them anywhere else, steam does not prevent them from doing so, it does not hold their game hostage. Im fine with using a games standalone launcher. In fact i slightly prefer it. But if its on a platform it better be on steam.
