I have two users on my system. When you are logged in as two users, the restart button does not work. When you press it, the window "Someone else is still using this pc. If you shut down now, they could lose unsaved work" appears, you press "ok" and the reboot does not occur. There is no such problem with shutdown and in a situation where, after turning on, you logged in to one user. You have to use Ctrl to open the native launch and everything works there. (sorry for my english, i use a translator)
Thank you for the bug report. We have identified the issue here and this should be resolved in the next update.
As you say shutdown will work, but restart does not work in this situation.
Icons in the taskbar are merged and unresponsive. When the system boots it is all ok, then after a while icons gets merged. Please see the image.
Windows 11 Pro Ver 21H2 OS Build 22000.918
I have the taskbar set to always combine.
Sometimes when I click on the icon of a program that has more then one instance open, a new instance gets opened insted of opening the popup that lets me choose what to do.
In this example I click on Firefox and a new instance is opened.
The second time I click it I get the popup.
It is very annoying because it is inconsistent and you never know what will happen
Good Morning,
I'm having an issue with Start 11.
Whenever I try to copy files from one usb hard drive to the another, the taskbar freezes. I will not respond until all the files are copied.
This only started after I installed Start 11.
I removed it and the issue stopped.
I just wanted to make you aware of this.
I seem to be getting huge memory consumption possibly when using Start11 to ungroup the taskbar buttons. This happens randomly after a few days of use. It doesn't happen if I disable Start11 entirely. Any ideas?Winver: 21H2 (22000.978)
When using Groupy (1.5) while Start11 is active, any windows that are grouped will partially show up on multiple virtual desktop (Windows' own virtual desktop feature). It doesn't matter what folder, app or program it is, one or more windows will appear on the taskbar (but not the window itself), clicking on the taskbar icon will send you to the desktop the window is open in. This happens regardless of Start11's grouping settings. Disabling Start11 works as intended (only show up in taskbar on the virtual desktop it's open in)
Edit 1: After some further testing, this might be an issue with Groupy (even though it only appeared after I installed Start11). Any window that is not active in each groupy-group will show up. Checking the "Only show the tab for the active window" appears to be a working workaround.
Hey Sean Drohan,
I really appreciate all the fixes that have been made. Okay, now here's a problem that can cause instability and some unusual things to happen within Windows 11.
OS Version Info:
Microsoft Windows 11 Pro
Version 21H2 (OS Build 22000.978)
Computer Info:
New 2022 Dell XPS 17 9720
Problem:
In order to resize/expand the taskbar, you must go into "Taskbar settings" and then into "Taskbar behaviors" and uncheck "Automatically hide the taskbar". Only then, is it possible to right-click on the taskbar and uncheck "Lock all taskbars" and then click on the taskbar and resize/expand it.
What if you want to expand the taskbar and also have it autohide so you don't see all those levels of pinned apps? This was something possible in previous versions of Windows. That is something I'd like changed, but below is where you will find info on the bug.
Steps to Recreate Bug:
1) While you are using Start11.
2) After you have resized/expanded your taskbar to two or three full levels of pinned apps.
3) Then you decide to go into "Taskbar settings" and then into "Taskbar behaviors" and check "Automatically hide the taskbar"
4) Toggling this setting off then on or on then off results in some strange things.
I've had the taskbar float in the air to where it was when expanded beforehand.
I've had the system fully blue screen on me (apparently some graphics and other drivers did not play well with Start11, but updates have helped).
and the odd thing is that this does not happen every time you change the auto-hide on or off, only some of the time.
note: I don't know if it made the effect worse or better, but I have enabled and disabled nearly all the custom settings within Start11, but the effect was still the same (sometimes no problems, other times.....problems).
I will include a video link of the recreation of the bug Here!
I noticed a missing feature:
Using Microsoft Windows 10 taskbar if I drag and drop a file from a folder to the bottom right corner of the screen the "show desktop" button gets activated and the desktop is shown (while I still have the drag and drop active). At this point I can drop the file to the desktop.
Using Start11 and dragging to the corner does nothing.
Is it possible to implement this feature?
Sadly I believe that wont work due to how Windows 11's taskbar works. If I don't misremember, I think that feature is being reintroduced in later Windows 11 'feature' updates.
Microsoft claims that "Microsoft has listened to the insiders that have tested Windows 11 and will be adding new functionality to the taskbar" the next updates released will resolve many of the taskbar complaints they have received. In feedback hub: "we need to wait for changes in upcoming updates to Windows 11." We will see if they can deliver!
Windows update just upgraded my PC to release 22H2 (not an insider update - just normal release process). As a result Start11 can no longer move my taskbar to the top which is why I bought it. I've done the obvious i.e. reset explorer, changed the settings in Start11, reset explorer again and no joy. I'm not totally surprised that this feature of Start11 has been temporarily defeated by an OS upgrade but any suggestions as to how to fix this would be appreciated. Or information when an upgrade to Start11 may be available.
Thanks.

Are you using an autohide taskbar? Autohide taskbars are not supported when at the top of the screen, only at the bottom.
I have found that many issues I was experiencing only happen when the Start11 service is running. when I killed the service and stopped it from auto starting at login, then the issues no longer happen.
These include:- crashing every time I record a video using Loom (I previously provided the dump report)- crashing every time I extract a zip file using 7zip- having corrupted icons on the start menu. screenshot:https://ibb.co/zGmfrn1
Hello all,
Just a heads up that we released Start11 1.26 today. You can see what's in it here:

Thanks for all the feedback.

Autohide for the top taskbar worked before the Windows upgrade. Turning autohide off now does allow a fixed top toolbar although some of the far right-hand icons ( language, network, sound and date) are invisble.
I'll try installing the new beta to see if that resolves the problem.
I just installed the beta. No change.
I still can only get a top taskbar if autohide is turned off. The right hand icons were invisible but at some point (perhaps when I right-clicked on the taskbar?) became visible.
So at the moment my options are top taskbar and lose some screen real-estate or autohide bottom taskbar.
As mentioned before, the previous version of Windows and Start11 allowed for autohide of a top taskbar.
Hopefully this issue will be resolved in the next beta or full release....soon.
Hi,
I've just updated my Win11 to 22H2. After that the link to the "Programs and Features" has disappeared from Quick access side shortcuts in Windows 7 style.
I can still run "Programs and Features" from command: appwiz.cpl but cannot add in Start11 configuration.
What can I do to restore this shortcut to Quick access side?
Please try Start11 V1.26 Beta: https://forums.stardock.com/514539/

Thanks. I've just tried Start11 V1.26 Beta but still cannot add 'Program and Features' from the list. So I've created shortcut to appwiz.cpl renamed it and it's OK.
We have never offered an option for Programs and Features on the quick access side shortcuts?
cant completely remove v1.25. i try use Purge_StartALL but fresh Win11 insider preview still detect installation =\
btw, i remove all "stardock" and "start11" entries from registry and appdata, program files etc - and cant install update! 😡
What exactly is detecting installation? Can you post a screenshot of whatever error message you are receiving?
Start11 should not be impacting any installation of any Windows updates. I would recommend filing a bug in the MS feedback tool too as it sounds like a bug at the Microsoft end.
Yup, I also update and am not impressed. But that is what I was told by a Microsoft representative. Maybe better luck in the next major update? I don't know what has happened to the company, but they have been a let down over the last decade or so.
Having this issue since Windows 11 22H2 update, setting transparency to 0 there is now a line on the taskbar when it used to be completely transparent.
I hope this can be fixed 👍(the taskbar line going behind the menu)
Start11 version 1.25
Edit: Also tried the 1.28 Beta and it has the same issue with 22H2 taskbar showing a line when setting taskbar transparency to 0.
