Hi,
I have been using Start11 for a little while. I recently updated to 1.24.
- I set the taskbar to the aligned to the left side of the screen, like it was in Windows 10 and earlier.
- I don't have a lot of shortcuts on my taskbar - literally the file explorer, chrome, calculator and Authy.
- If I have multiple Chrome windows open or tabs, as tends to happen, and I click on the Chrome shortcut again to try and open or expand the current Chrome windows I have, it instead opens a different shortcut (Authy in my case). If I close the chrome windows, and try again, it works fine - until I have multiple windows open that are minimized.
- If I horizontally center the taskbar buttons from Start11, the behavior does not manifest at all
- If I remove Authy as a shortcut on my taskbar, the calculator will open instead of Authy in the above scenario with the few shortcuts I do have.
- Seems to only do this for multiple Chrome windows - but I haven't had a chance to test if it happens with say Firefox or Edge.
I can make a small GIF showing the behavior if you want, or if its not clear.
Thanks for the help!
Hello,Sorry to hear you are having issues. Need to know more on your system.

Its an animated GIF, so you will need to download it to see it play.
Thanks!
I'm also finding alignment issues within the fences.......seems to align left & then really not have the same amount to room for the program names.

Grifter,
Please try uninstall, reboot, reinstall, reboot again. And retest.
Steve,
Look like your issue is different than OP, please start your own thread, so it don't get confusing.
Thank you,
Basj,Stardock Community Assistant
Hi basj,
It stopped for a bit, but I continue to see the same behavior.
One thing I noticed - it seems to occur when the PC wakes up from Sleep.
Next step, please try purge and reinstall steps as mention here : [Link]. Just make sure to redownload the latest version from your account page. Reboot after the purge. Reinstall and reboot again after the installation. Retest and report back here.
Thank you,Basj,Stardock Community Assistant.
Hi Basj,
I can recreate the same behavior after the purge uninstall.
- Remove Start11 with the batch file
- Reboot
- Install Start 11
- Behavior isn't there until I put the PC to sleep
- Awake the PC, behavior reappears.
Great, now try cleanboot : https://forums.stardock.com/505872/start11-support-faq#cleanboot. This is something to see if something else is conflicting with Start11 and causing this issue. Try it and report back.
I'm experiencing the same issue. It's as if the index of the icon is off by one. For example I have Chrome open, Explorer icon, VLC open, Outlook Open and Xbox Open. When I hover over the Outlook icon, it shows the VLC preview window and the Xbox shows the Outlook preview window. Also clicking on the icon opens the wrong app.

Hello,
I have forwarded your report to the Stardock support team for their review and recommendations.
Please keep an eye on this thread for any updates.
We really do appreciate your feedback, thanks.
Happens in a new profile and clean boot - after resuming from sleep.
Thanks.
Is this after a sleep?
I will have to watch for sleep triggering this, but the majority of issues I've had lately with Start11 do appear to happen after sleep.
I know it went to the devs to look into, but just updating what behavior I noticed in case it helps.
Doesn't only happen with Chrome or browsers either - anything that has multiple windows or tabs open does this "open the one to the right" offset after resuming from Sleep.
I had network settings open for Windows (the old one from Control Panel, not the new Settings one with Windows 11). I was editing editing properties of my NIC. I went and looked something up on Chrome, and clicked on the settings icon in the taskbar to bring it up to the front. It opened the application icon (Steam) that was to the right of my Control Panel NIC settings.
If you open and then close a say notepad window, does the problem stop happening or does it continue to happen?
Likewise if you resize the taskbar to two rows and back to one?
I know resizing the taskbar doesn't work for me, I tried it before.
I'll let you know about the notepad. Of course just now, I did a reboot of my PC, put the PC to sleep. woke it to test what you asked, and the problem isn't presenting as I initially described. Its like going to the dentist and the tooth stops hurting...
EDIT: Came back after the computer was asleep for a little bit, and problem presented as usual. I tried the notepad opening and closing. It does not stop the problem.
BTW: You want Notepad specifically, or are you asking any window? Because, I have obviously opened and closed Chrome tabs and browser windows and other applications (ie, I have closed all apps that were open) and tested. The problem only seems to present with multiple windows to choose from when clicking on the shortcut and things are grouped together. So like my previous post, Control Panel Network and Sharing Center was open, then clicked on Change Adapter Settings (which opens a new window), minimized this (which is a grouped icon in the taskbar), and clicking on it to re-open or to bring to front the windows, opened the application to the right of the grouped icons for the control panel stuff.

I believe the issue goes away if I close one of the apps in the taskbar that's pointing to the wrong application. It's as if the index of the items resets or refreshes when that happens.
Update:
This issue just happened after waking from sleep. I closed one of the apps were the taskbar icon was pointing to the wrong app and that fixed the other ones.
If I close all additional windows when the app in the taskbar is grouped together, the issue does not present. But it comes back the moment I have more than 1 window from the same app open again (unless I restart - then the issue won't happen until after the PC comes back from sleep)
And like in my original post - if I go to Start11 and center the taskbar, the issue does not present at all for me. But who wants a centered taskbar?!

I'm noticing the same thing myself. Like I said earlier, it appears that the index or list position doesn't match. And like you said, it appears when I have something like two Chrome windows open and the icons group.
I have noticed that this happens on my primary monitor only (it doesn't seem to be an issue on any seconday monitor). So, it will open the application to the right of the shortcut on my primary monitor, but my secondary monitor, which is also showing the taskbar, will work and function as normal.
